Enlightened Listening for October 4

Three weeks ago I thought I was on the precipice of returning to regular blogging and a new season of Bump In The Hump. However that weekend I spilled on my laptop, and while I'm writing to you from said computer, it is no longer on my lap as I am forced use an external keyboard and mouse while I continue to wait for the replacement part to arrive. That said mountains of music continue to be released, and while I spent most of my week wading through the weeks I missed, I've decided to focus on this Friday's releases via a new edition of Enlightened Listening. Listen below and find a brief blow by blow in the next paragraph.

As always, I like to open with cool cuts and that's what we get with the latest from Goldroom. His dreamy delight leads us into funky fun and eventually acid in Justin Jay's Future Feels EP. Following  that comes a killer four track EP from Oliver Koletzki who offers up awesome, expansive grooves rife with wild sound and a plenitude of percussion. The legendary Eric Prydz then follows with his epic 13-track PRYDA 15 VOL III album, which is of course killer quality, through and through. Turning towards bass house, there's four banging EPs back to back from trusted names like Jack Beats, NuKid, Destructo and CONFESSION. Closing out that ridiculous run is a track BLANSH had sent me in January, and while I've always been a fan of his work, I can honestly say "Way Up" is my favourite. And speaking of favourites, Gesaffelstein is back again and much closer to my favourite Gesaffelstein in the diabolically dark, shiver inducing power punch that we got from 2010-2013. Following the incredible power of NOVO SONIC SYSTEM comes Datassette's Kestrel Manoeuvers In The Dark, a brilliant mind-bending display of synth work. Finally we close with a 15-track deadmau5 remix package featuring the likes of Morgan Page, Pig&Dan, Spencer Brown and a whole host more. Enjoy!

Goldroom - Just Like A Dream (ft. Nikki Segal)

Justin Jay - Future Feels

Oliver Koletzski - We Are All Lost

Destructo - Bassface (Remixes)

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: BLANSH - Check This

The eyes of the electronic music world are on Miami as the annual pilgrimage has begun. Labels have been releasing their showcase compilations for at least a month in anticipation of the countless events and hours upon hours of music being shared on the shores of Atlantic. One such compilation, the first from Botnek's brand new World Famous Headquarters, features friend of the show BLANSH and his trademark heavy house sound. "Check This" is just one of nine tracks on the compilation which can be downloaded free/streamed here. Grab it now and enjoy it on Bump In The Hump tonight.
Following last week's trend towards warmer weather and brighter beats we'll once again welcome a slew of spring and summer type tunes, while still returning to bass heavy bangers in the Fire Finale. There's tracks from Dabin, Hudson Lee and The Funk Hunters albums, a handful of artist debuts, a take on Skrillex's classic "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites" and so much more. Listen live from 7-9 PM EDT via Radio Humber and find the episode cataloged after the fact on Mixcloud here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Chromeo - Juice (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

German groove genius Purple Disco Machine is in Toronto tonight, playing Goldie alongside Nick Fiorucci (RSVP/Tickets). What better time to break out his killer Chromeo cocktail, "Juice." It opens tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump as we once again make our way through the latest and greatest in dance and electronic from across the country. Don your dancing shoes and mix it up.There's more than an hour of house (disco, deep, tech, bass and otherwise), and that's pretty much the norm, but what isn't is the six artists making their Bump In The Hump debuts. There's some really cool stuff from each half of Talal & Zoi, who play Parlour together Saturday with Death On The Balcony (RSVP/Tickets). A couple of classics from Diana Ross and Tears For Fears get retouched by two of our more trusted names in Barry Harris and Jerome Robins, and the new classic from from Loud Luxury gets yet another remix. Plus we get a first play of a forthcoming track from bass house badman Blansh. And yet of course we wind up the two hour extravaganza with a four part grimy dubstep section. Catch it all live from 7-9 PM EDT via Radio Humber or streamed after the fact via Mixcloud, here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: We Are Friends Vol. 7

It's compilation season everyone! It's the time of year slews of singles get packaged together. That might not mean much for best-of releases, but when they're as big and full of new tunes as We Are Friends Vol. 7, you've certainly got something to talk about. This monumental mix of mau5trap runs 23 tracks deep, bringing a list of new favourites from Attlas, Moguai & Tinlicker, Notaker, Rhett among many others. Of course you can trust that I'll be bringing a couple cuts to Bump In The Hump!
While the concerned mau5trap fan might be wondering "why no Rezz?" Take solace in knowing she'll still appear on Bump In The Hump tonight. Adding to the milestone above, AVA just hit 200 releases with Andy Moor, Somna and Diana Leah, and somehow we've got new BLANSH for the 5th week in a row. And as always we have the weekend warmup, which looks a little outside the city this time with Krayysh and Sevla in Waterloo Friday (here). We also hear from Kidswaste who opens for Hotel Garuda at Velvet Underground Friday (here), and Nitin who opens for Kerri Chandler at CODA Saturday (here). Catch Bump In The Hump live from 6-8 PM EST on Radio Humber (here) or stream after the fact via Mixcloud.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Death From Above - Black History Month (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix)

Instead of teasing with the normal new content (I'm going to leave that all hidden for now), I've instead opted to excite with one part of this episode's Weekend Warmup. As you may already know, Toronto's own Death From Above are playing Friday and Saturday at The Phoenix Concert Theatre (RSVP/Tickets: 1st and 2nd). The duo of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler (also of MSTRKRFT) are coming off the release of their album Outrage! is Now, however once again I'm looking at their older stuff, particularly the awesome duo of Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. I'll be playing their mix of "Black History Month" as the first half of the Weekend Warmup on this episode of Bump In The Hump. Stream below. Also on tonight's episode, I've got a double dose of trance to start, an intoxicating remix of Tiga's "Woke," followed by the absolute brilliance of ASHE and his track "Little King." We then get into deep house and disco vibes, before flipping things into the trap, with bass bangers from the likes of WHIPPED CREAM and Krayysh, followed by a flurry of dubstep. We round things out with the Fire Finale from BLANSH, who graces Bump In The Hump for the third week in a row. The episode runs live from 6-8 PM EST via Radio Humber here, and can be streamed after the fact via Mixcloud.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: BLANSH x Usica - Metal Licka

Bass badman BLANSH first appeared on Radio Humber some months ago, since then he's gone through a bit of a reboot, only upping his already incredibly fire fashion. This month is certainly set to be a game changer, as in the past 24 hours alone, he's dropped two new tracks, with a third set for release Nov. 29th. Like the forthcoming "Jet Lag" the track you'll hear on Bump In The Hump tonight, features' LA's Usica. "Metal Licka" hits like a lead pipe to the head, swung with the skill of a samurai. While bass house seems to be one of the more popular subgenres of the moment, I can truly say that I haven't come across such savage yet savvy production in months. Stream below and download free, here. This week's episode once again features some delightful disco house from the likes of Hatiras and CastNowski. After spending nearly all of my Sunday scrolling through Soundcloud, there's an incredible nine new artist debuts, ranging from future bass and trap, to DnB and dubstep. The new music also comes from Bump In The Hump regulars: A-Trak, Bishu, Chet Porter, Ekali and more. Stream the episode live from 6-8 PM EST on Radio Humber here, or after the fact via Mixcloud, here.
