Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Sam Lamar - The Magician

Montreal's Sam Lamar has been consistently making moves in the dubstep scene for over two years now and is showing no sign of slowing down. This year alone he's authored a remix of Illenium, dropped an EP on Uplink Audio and is now working towards an EP with Kannibalen. "The Magician" is from that forthcoming four track EP and establishes an unholy alchemy with creepy chords reminiscent of Rezz before its disgusting dub drops amidst all kinds of unhinged effects. Its power is pervasive and while it would be good enough to tease this episode of Bump In The Hump on its own, it's also a great fit as we look ahead to Nah Mean's new episode of My Mixtape, which includes six of Sam's tracks. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Drainpuppet - dark water

One of the great pleasures of hosting Bump In The Hump is discovering new artists. It happens every week, nearly every day. Often times these are mere stumble upon moments, and because of the all-new focus I don't necessarily play these discoveries right away. I'll log the name in my continually growing database, follow their socials, and hope I reestablish the connection when I see their name again. That was the case yesterday when Hamilton's Drainpuppet dropped the lead track "dark water" from her forthcoming third album aether light, which closes out the elements trilogy of Firewater and AIR_EARTH. Due out August 28th on one of my favourite labels, DESKPOP, if this lead track is any indication the album will be expansive, inventive, delicate yet powerful and beautiful. There really is nothing like a meeting of legends, especially when they both span decades. That is the case with "DJs Gotta Dance More" from pre-millennium powerhouse and still sensational Todd Terry and his "spiritual godson" A-Trak. Out now on the latter's Fool's Gold, this is true New York house in the form of an ode to crate-digging and the connection between DJ and their dance floor (rather than disconnect we see so much today). The Wild Now - Tongue Tied (Far & Few Remix)

I've covered Texas duo Far & Few several times, most recently with their potent collab with Blvk Sheep "Pop." Their range of bass tracks, primarily through the trap lens, shows off incredible production quality, a knack for nasty drops and an incredible versatility around vocals. The latter ability leads their two most recent, more vibey, productions "iwantuu" with ye. and "Ghosted," a take on on Sevdaliza and Stwo's "Haunted." But today the duo is back with a brooding banger, steeped in scowling synths and vicious, yet vaporous vocals.

The atmosphere of "Tongue Tied" is unmistakably menacing, grinding with the intensity of Rezz or Gesaffelstein, while still offering up crystalline clarity in the few haunting high-end notes. As always their percussion is on point, rolling the track forward with a playful progression that makes moving to the macabre joint easy. All this said, the quality of the vocal chops and their interplay in the drops is what makes "Tongue Tied" such a tremendous track.
