Hot Chip - Hungry Child

Legendary London outfit Hot Chip have returned with big news. After making waves in recent weeks with a number of shows including an hour long set for BBC's 6 Music Festival (here), they've just announced their first album since 2015's Why Make Sense?. Due out June 21st on Domino Record Co, A Bath Full Of Ecstasy will be the band's seventh studio album. Along with the accompanying tour announcement (see here), Hot Chip have come through with not just a brilliant music video featuring Martin Starr and Milana Vayntrub, but also a couple cuts of sensational lead single "Hungry Child."

It's easy to call this a triumphant return, not just because it's awesome to have Hot Chip back, once again blessing our ears with new music, but because there's quite simply an underlying ecstasy or exultance built into "Hungry Child." The character and quality of their always immaculate craftwork is on full display in both versions. The six minute original is downright divine, slowly yet surely satisfying every bone in your body over the course of the cool, crisp climb. The shorter edit features a rearrangement of the elements into a tighter, more fun focused delivery. Despite the time constraints of this version, Hot Chip's brilliance comes through as they give each element its moment, breathing beautiful into each other. There's no doubt in my mind that "Hungry Child" will be pulling listeners back in for countless repeats as the year goes on and we work towards the release of A Bath Full Of Ecstasy. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Ever After

While summer started for most of Humber last month and I've been claiming festival season has already arrived, this weekend will mark the true kick off with hundreds of ravers, bass-heads and music-lovers alike heading to Kitchener for Ever After. As always I'll get you set with the Weekend Warmup which this week features six artists playing Bingemans Park. There's Price & Takis, Krimer, Excision, Downlink, Snails and friend of the show Bill Slinnton among a long list of locals playing the Ontario Stage. There's also a handful of artist debuts to go along with one of the heaviest episodes to date. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Death From Above - Black History Month (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix)

Instead of teasing with the normal new content (I'm going to leave that all hidden for now), I've instead opted to excite with one part of this episode's Weekend Warmup. As you may already know, Toronto's own Death From Above are playing Friday and Saturday at The Phoenix Concert Theatre (RSVP/Tickets: 1st and 2nd). The duo of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler (also of MSTRKRFT) are coming off the release of their album Outrage! is Now, however once again I'm looking at their older stuff, particularly the awesome duo of Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. I'll be playing their mix of "Black History Month" as the first half of the Weekend Warmup on this episode of Bump In The Hump. Stream below.Also on tonight's episode, I've got a double dose of trance to start, an intoxicating remix of Tiga's "Woke," followed by the absolute brilliance of ASHE and his track "Little King." We then get into deep house and disco vibes, before flipping things into the trap, with bass bangers from the likes of WHIPPED CREAM and Krayysh, followed by a flurry of dubstep. We round things out with the Fire Finale from BLANSH, who graces Bump In The Hump for the third week in a row.
