Enlightened Listening for November 15

This week's eclectic edition of Enlightened Listening ranges from disco and jazz to bass house and techno. It features the legendary Pat Metheny, who while not really an obvious fit on this blog is perhaps the epitome of what I mean by Enlightened Listening - someone you may have never heard, but who in turn opens your eyes and ears to something new and undeniably interesting. Of course there's a handful of the more typical fare from some of my favourites in Eli Escobar, Joris Voorn, the Night Bass crew and HUNTER (Siegel).

Eli Escobar opens the playlist with new album Last Summer, which leads into equally excellent endeavor Four from Joris Voorn. They're followed by the first of two new duos in this playlist: C.Y.M. who is Mike Greene of Fort Romeau and Chris Baio of Vampire Weekend. After that is Oliver Koletzki's epic album Fire In The Jungle, which in turn leads us to our second new duo. The incomparable Joy Orbison has joined forces with Overmono and together they've unleashed "Bromley," the a-side to forthcoming "Still Moving." Singles continue as Dirty South dazzles with Marion Amira, and MJ Cole brings a brilliant bounce to Flume and Vera Blue. The Funk Hunters then follow with a groovy get-down, before Golden Features and The Presets send us into incredible house EP Raka. Finally it's banger time as Night Bass celebrate their 100th release with a compilation of some of their most trusted names. And speaking of trusted names, Hunter Siegel has ditched his often misspelled last name and opted for a new sound in "I Don't Forget." Enjoy via playlist below and find individual links at the bottom.

Eli Escobar - Last Summer

Joris Voorn - Four

C.Y.M. - C.Y.M.

Pat Metheny - America Undefined

Joy Orbison & Overmono - Bromley

Dirty South - All I Need (ft. Marion Amira)

Flume ft. Vera Blue - Rushing Back (MJ Cole Remix)

The Funk Hunters & A.Skillz - Body Move

Golden Features & The Presets - Raka

Various Artists - Night Bass: One Hundred

HUNTER - I Don't Forget (ft. Roshin)

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: BLANSH - Check This

The eyes of the electronic music world are on Miami as the annual pilgrimage has begun. Labels have been releasing their showcase compilations for at least a month in anticipation of the countless events and hours upon hours of music being shared on the shores of Atlantic. One such compilation, the first from Botnek's brand new World Famous Headquarters, features friend of the show BLANSH and his trademark heavy house sound. "Check This" is just one of nine tracks on the compilation which can be downloaded free/streamed here. Grab it now and enjoy it on Bump In The Hump tonight.
Following last week's trend towards warmer weather and brighter beats we'll once again welcome a slew of spring and summer type tunes, while still returning to bass heavy bangers in the Fire Finale. There's tracks from Dabin, Hudson Lee and The Funk Hunters albums, a handful of artist debuts, a take on Skrillex's classic "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites" and so much more. Listen live from 7-9 PM EDT via Radio Humber and find the episode cataloged after the fact on Mixcloud here.

Bump In The Hump: August 22 (Season 7, Episode 46)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Diana Boss - Two To Nine EP

Over the past few months there's been one label that's appeared on Bump In The Hump more often than any other, Westwood Recordings. As has been the case in recent weeks there's multiple Westwood releases on tonight's episode, including the Radio Humber debut of Vancouver duo Diana Boss. Their Two To Nine EP, fresh on sub-label Westwood X, features a couple killer groove driven house tracks, with vocals from Giorgi Holiday and Ava King. Stream below, grab the whole EP free here and tune into Bump In The Hump live tonight from 7-9 PM EDT to hear a cut from it in the mix. Also out now on Westwood, one of my most anticipated releases of the year, Kotek's mix of The Funk Hunters "Say Something." There's a bunch of funky bass tunes joining these two aforementioned tracks including Conro, PINEO, Kayliox and a disco mix of Drake. Barry Harris once again graces us with a brilliant bootleg, plus we get the long awaited return of IDGVF. Finally there's no shortage of fire as we take to TenGraphs' Cult Of The Rippers Part 3 for a second time, punch things up with Pigeon Hole's Noise Parade and launch into the abyss with Sam Lamar. As above, listen live from 7-9 PM EDT or after the fact cataloged via Mixcloud.

Enlightened Listening for August 17

We may be past the halfway mark of August and even further through summer but the heat just keeps coming. This week's edition of Enlightened Listening includes a killer lineup of releases with some legends (Method Man & Roy Of The Ravers), personal favourites (Attlas & Kotek) and rising stars (Dawg & Deathpact). As always the playlist flows from light to heavy, bright to dark and includes brief descriptions below. Click through to find downloads, support the artists and of course, enjoy!

SG Lewis - Hurting (ft. AlunaGeorge)
At times brooding, while others shimmering and bright. Truly a match made in heaven.

Devault - Steele
I'm a sucker for steel pans, but this track isn't just shiny, ear grabbing sound design, its got groove.

The Knocks - Goodbyes (ft. Method Man)
We've heard The Knocks with Cam'ron, Carly Rae Jepsen, and X Ambassadors, so it shouldn't be a surprise seeing Method Man in the mix, nor should it be surprising to hear him kill it. The real surprise? How good he is en español. Holy hell this is cool.

Kidnap - Ursa Minor (Attlas Remix)
Another out of this world production from Attlas. Par for the course aka PERFECTION.

Delerium ft. JES - Stay (Matt Lange Vocal Remix)
Speaking of par for the course, another epic, progressive masterpiece from Matt Lange. Pure puppet mastery; the dance floor does as he demands. What a mix!

Uppermost - Starslide
Those synths and that guitar. Absolutely gorgeous, uplifting stuff.

Roy Of The Ravers - Transmission 303
It's almost impossible to match "Emotinium" but this comes close. Furious, fantastic work on the 303s as this acid number winds along with its wicked groove.

Dawg - Get Back*
Viral remix master shows he's more than capable of crafting killer originals. Raw, rough and full of power. The drums slap, the piano pops and vocal chops kill. I feel like this might be the birth of a star.

The Funk Hunters ft. LIINKS - Say Something (Kotek Remix)
I've been waiting on this mix since the remix competition many months ago. Kotek is on one hell of a tear, and this mix is proof of his sensational status. Funky, fat and fun, this one leaves me in awe.

Flava D - Pick Pocket
Deep grooves that not only serve as a surefire party starter, but get your feet flying across the floor.

Deathpact - First Interference
Whoever Deathpact is, they're on some kind of a roll. Many people see "Life & Death" as the standout on Certain Kind Of Magic and that same kind of killer sound design is on display here. Incredible power, no needless repetition and godly glitches make for blistering bass that I can really groove to.

Varien x SWARM - Never Ending*
This collab had me hyped from the get go and yes it delivers. If SWARM and Deathpact are the future of the bass scene it's in good hands.
