Kariya - Let Me Love You For Tonight (SanFranDisko Re-Rub 2018)

Bay area bad boy SanFranDisko is at it again, adding to his enormous catalog with a 2018 re-rub of Kariya's 1988 classic. While you may not have heard "Let Me Love You For Tonight" in its original epicness, you've certainly encountered its intoxicating riff in "Insomnia" from Faithless, among several other iterations. In typical SanFranDisko fashion he's left much of the original allure upfront, while sliding in his signature strength to not only update but upgrade. It still screams of classic club vibes, but seemingly everything is one upped. The tempo jumps a gear, the backbone is bolstered, and boy does it ever flow fat and full. Fantastically it is available free in full lossless WAV format, grab it here.FOLLOW SANFRANDISKO: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Midas Hutch - I'll Go There (ft. MAAD)

My first exposure to Midas Hutch came a few years back with his love-drenched, loungy, funk mix of TeeFLii's "24 Hours." Ever since then his output has been firmly on my radar, delivering get-down groove tunes that will melt even the coldest curmudgeon's core. Earlier this month that heartrending heat came in the form of another remix, that of Jengi's "Good Good." Now today the magnificent Midas puts his touch on an all new original, with the magisterial MAAD providing some polished vocals.
Seeing the name Midas was a sell, but I was fully bought in a mere 20 seconds into the sublime song. The bass bumps and the guitar glides so effortlessly. And speaking of effortless that's where MAAD comes in. She brings a beauty and power that adds so much to the mix, while feeling inextricably tied to it. The whole thing is just so much fun and plays along perfectly, but hats must go off to the second half of the track where the progression and playfulness kick up a notch. The synth shimmers just that much more, and MAAD becomes just that much more magnetic, especially after the instrumental is drawn back. Truly these two, and the elements they provide, are another example of the whole being greater than the sum if its parts (all good music is). Watch the video below and stream/purchase here.

Rainy Day Pick Me Ups

Today is just one of those days. It's rainy, I'm sick and my Blue Jays are off to a stumbling start to their season. So let's right that ship shall we? And what better way to do so than with bubbly, bouncy and uplifting music. Of course there's some fun funk, and everything is fairly well brand new. I've also organized the playlist to go from orchestral openings through a groovy middle to a full on fluoro DnB finale. Note that "Villa" and "Cozy" are available free, here and here, respectively. Stream and enjoy!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Marco Marz - Acquisition

On Bump In The Hump I pride myself on bringing the latest and greatest in dance and electronic from across the country, and it's safe to say "Acquisition," from friend of the show Marco Marz, checks both of those boxes. It's been more than a year since he graced us with an hour of unholy house for My Mixtape, and if you thought his star was bright then, he's about to go supernova now. After his BADLQQK RQQKIE release he further announced his arrival with a genius take on Jay-Z's "PSA", made moves onto CastNowski's UpNorth with "Get Money," before wrapping up the year with some December deepness in his remix of DLMT and Ellis' "How Does It Feel." Now I've been privy to some potent productions he's sitting on, and this track is only the start of a superb 2018. So buckle in for the bass bounce of Marco Marz and enjoy "Acquisition" below, before Bump In The Hump tonight.
Joining Master Marz we've got another hearty helping of house of the disco, deep, bass, and tech varieties. There's a touch a trance, future bass, to go with a trap, DnB and dubstep laden Fire Finale. We welcome a handful of debuts, and another extended edition of the Weekend Warmup, with specific attention paid to the Kawaii Bass collective's Friday Low Key LP release party (RSVP/Tickets). Catch all the action live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber or after the fact on Mixcloud here.

Missy Elliott - Freak (MEMBA Bootleg)

Nearly two months to the day I first came across NYC duo MEMBA, through their original production "Middle Man." Today they've dropped a bootleg mix of Missy Elliott's oft edited classic "Get Ur Freak On." While I only count a handful of elements supporting the salacious vocals of Misdemeanor, it's actually perfect. It leaves room for her snappy flow to really hit, only further encouraging a rap-along from the crowd. Each one of these elements works wonderfully as a guide to groove to; I can easily envision entire dance-floors bobbing, wobbling and shaking to this. Perhaps the most ingenious element of MEMBA's production comes in their use of Missy's percussive flow leading into the eponymous line "Get Ur Freak On." Johnny Third - No Warning

Again I find myself wondering what it is about Australia that has them pumping out such strong artists, especially in the field where future bass and trap meet. This time it's Melbourne's Johnny Third who's worked his way onto my radar with "No Warning." Like other Aussies before him, I'm drawn in thanks to alluring instrumentation and tasty tuning. There's just such a strong musical magnetism to the track, and it's ever amplified by the emotion of Third's vocals delivery. Even the drop/chorus screams with an ensnaring quality, painting the picture of a powerful enchantress dancing around your subconscious. It is that taste you can't get off your tongue, the earworm you can't erase; it won't let you go. Maybe I shouldn't have written that, because I've now warned you about the effects of this song, but even still I feel its power is unavoidable. Four Tet - Essential Mix (17.03.18)

Last weekend I was away and never got the chance to take in Four Tet's triumphant return to the Essential Mix. That said I was certainly enjoying his remix of BICEP's "Opal," as was my dad, who I had to explain the proper formatting of original artist - track name (remixer), so that he too could enjoy the eight minute epic. Finally I'm back home, nearly back to my normal routine, and able to sink my teeth into Four Tet's masterful mix. As Pete Tong says in the intro, Kieran Hebdan is "in the middle of an incredible run" and graces us with some never before heard tunes. As always his selection is eclectic and built around exquisite beauty. There's of course a slew of his own tracks, with standards like Ben Klock and Emmanuel Top to go along with surprises like Britney Spears and Selena Gomez. It is a beautiful two hour episode of atmospheric excellence expertly mixed with just the right amount of oomph and vocal diversions. There are times where you'll find yourself flush from the carefully crafted charm of the mix, agape at the wonder it instills, and others where you'll want to run to the nearest floor to get your dance on. Four Tet delivers, as we ought to expect, so whether you're nursing a hangover, catching up on some work, or just looking for a new mix to make your day better, look no further. But you've got all weekend to check it out, so take your time or skip through, but as always enjoy!

Wilsonn - Even If I Know

The topic of mental health has become more prevalent lately, with many electronic artists offering up their own insights. The toll of working and traveling, often alone, can be incredibly heavy. This past Friday, Australian artist Wilsonn tackled that emotion and injected it into his track "Even If I Know."

Maybe you're like me and have never heard the name Wilsonn before, however I've unknowingly heard his voice before, as he appears in Attlas' "Batch." Similar to Attlas, Wilsonn has a unique production style that cannot be cornered. And while this is his first proper original release, the combination of sounds and styles in "Even If I Know" ooze with his particular ipseity that includes elements of RnB, soul, ambient, new wave, future bass, trap, chill and downtempo.

Upon first pressing play we're greeted with warm shimmering synths, reminiscent of fellow Aussies What So Not and Slumberjack, however this warmth is opposed by Wilsonn's wounded vocal delivery. While the lyrics are strong and poignant, it is clear that they come from a deeply affected personal place. Myself, I'm struck with the thought that this song is extracted from his innermost core, and serves as a necessary act of release. This idea comes primarily through the growth in the second half of the song: the vocal chops rise as though Wilsonn's demons are escaping, eviscerated as soon as they hit the air and light of day; illustrated brilliantly with the explosive finale (about 2:48). Whether it's meant that way or not, it's certainly a beautiful, overcoming finale, especially for a debut release.

SEPHA - what we wished we'd said

Last week London's Joey Aybak, better known as SEPHA, unleashed another exciting addition to his already exceptional library. "what we wished we'd said" joins the likes of his DISTOP // EP, which was brilliantly categorized as "Weird Faith." While this is the first time I've heard any SEPHA, I can sincerely say I've never heard anything quite like this before. The deeper I get into his discography, the more I melt in its incredible glow. This track in particular shows off both his potent production ability and vocal performance. The groove has real grit that exudes an alluring aura, locking you in with a load of popping percussion. But it's not just the electronic elements that elevate the excellence of this track; as I said with SEPHA's singing above, he's able to showcase serious strength, which wonderfully wraps around both your head and the musical bed. "what we wished we'd said" shows off true puppet mastery, so powerful that SEPHA can "cut off these string" yet still make us move in whatever way he wants. As the writer, performer and producer, SEPHA is truly a talent to keep your eyes and ears on.FOLLOW SEPHA: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Flying Themed Tunes

Today I'm off to see my mom's side of the family in the settlement of Thunder Bay, the remote head of Lake Superior. Thankfully I'm flying, but that leaves little time for bloggin (although I believe I'm achieving that offline, as I cruise above the clouds). So while I jettison towards my destination I'm going to compile a list of tracks including keyword fly. And for fun I'm including tracks electronic and otherwise. (Compiling offline and will update with links when I get the chance). Spotify playlist below.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Saint Patrick's Day Weekend Warmup

As you might expect the streets will be running green this weekend, as Saint Patrick's Day falls this Saturday. Of course the clubs are set to take advantage of that with several excellent events planned throughout the weekend. As we do on Bump In The Hump, I'll be showcasing a selection of those events on tonight's episode, and instead of teasing with one track or artist, I'm simply going to list those shows I'm supporting. See each of the events below, listed in chronological order, artists played tonight tagged with asterisks, and linked to the Facebook events for more detail, tickets and RSVP.

FRIDAY - March 16th

3LAU* - Ultraviolet Tour w/ Throttle @ UNIUN [4AM Extended License]

SATURDAY - March 17th

bluedot - Say It

If there's one theme in what I cover here on this blog, and always strive to find in electronic music, it's a human heartbeat. Electronic music is incredible in the infinite possibilities it allows, but no matter how cool or unique the sounds you create, if there's no soul, your track is vapid, and indeed lifeless. This is decidedly not the case with Oregon Coast producers bluedot and their latest production, "Say It." Perhaps I'm being unfair in ascribing a human touch to the organ's lively reverberations, but maybe it's in the denomination of the instrument itself, as it is organ-ic. Puns aside, these organ notes lay the foundation for the bloated bass, and subsequent glib, guitars. After all this is a triphop track, and smooth, billowing energy is essential to its easy feel and enjoyment. And personally I find "Say It" to be supremely serene and sonically satisfying, but maybe that's just because I get a pinch of Pink Floyd feels with this "psybient" delivery. But back to the life-force this track exudes. One of two images come to my mind's eye when I close my own: 1) a five piece band in the midst of a jam session, and 2) some kind of massive modular synth, wires everywhere, operating on its own as if alive. "Say It" is a bit of a trippy track, in that it can most certainly take you places, but it's always a beautiful one, full of soul soul.Pick up the high quality, aif download absolutely free here.

Twelve Mixes To Get You Through The Week

Going back through the year I've already shared several masterful mixes, from the likes of Tiga, Point Point, and Alan Fitzpatrick (as well as five new episodes of My Mixtape). While I normally write more lengthy descriptions and sales pitches as to why you ought to listen, I've found that today I've become overwhelmed with wonderful musical journeys. So with that in mind I've compiled a dozen of my favourites of 2018 so far, and will share with very brief descriptions. There's everything from jungle DnB, experimental bass and trap, dubstep, disco, house, and chill. Since not all of these mixes are on Soundcloud there will be no proper playlist, instead I'll use individual embeds. Enjoy below!

Lennart Schroot - Arcade

It's not news that I'm kind of crazy for 'video game music', so when I saw Lennart Schroot's "Arcade" in my feed this morning I just had to click play. Right away I was greeted with a familiar sound, ironically that of Jack Beats and their remix of Flux Pavilion, "Daydreamer." That sparkling synth crackles the track to life, turning the lights on at the titular location. The bass then builds, beckoning you inward for pure nostalgic pleasure. Like the artwork the track is bright and warm; a welcome reprise from the doldrums of daily life, where you can toss your cares aside and enjoy an electronic escape. The drops deliver this diversion fantastically, and transports you to a technological wonderland. My Mixtape featuring Wizard Of

Jack Beats - Keep On

Yesterday Jack Beats unleashed their first EP of 2018, entitled Vibrate. While the eponymous a-side features vocals from Sir Michael Rocks, it is the instrumental b-side that has my attention. It strikes me as a more classic affair from the masterful duo of Ben Geffin and Niall Dailly, who have been building some of the best bass designs and all around party rocking tracks for more than a decade now. "Keep On" is yet another example of said skill and offers up an awesome atmosphere. Each sound is fine tuned for maximum effect, playing perfectly with the progression necessary to keep the whole club captivated. Special attention and acknowledgement has to be paid to the percussion which, as always, tempts and teases the track forward. Like its name, the track and truly the duo themselves sustain their strength and momentum masterfully. Enlightened Listening for March 9

The digging has been done, I've collected a number of tracks throughout the week, and some new ones fresh off the press, of course being Friday, so here we are with another edition of Enlightened Listening. While there's numerous EPs and albums out today, I've stuck to singles for this post. There's highly anticipated remixes from Hunter Siegel and Four Tet, a stunner from Madeaux, and some temperature changing trap from names that are new to me. Find all it cataloged in the playlist below, read mini-descriptions following that, and grab your free downloads where available (marked by asterisks).

SOPHIE - Faceshopping (Madeaux Remix)*
The impossible task of wrangling and remixing SOPHIE has finally been achieved. Again Madeaux has treated us to some of the strongest sound design around. His reconstruction of the previously pulverizing track is truly a treat to behold. Special shout outs have to go to Cecile Believe's vocals and Madeaux's treatment of them in the second half of the track.

Big Mak - Mr. Downtown
If this sounds familiar then you've got an excellent ear. Big Mak has taken to the soundtrack of That Thing You Do! and flipped the fictional Freddy Fredrickson track into a fantastic trap lounger.

Yuto - Dear Africa*
The plucks and percussion combined in this trap joint are absolutely fantastic. You'll get bent and twisted to this on the floor, and that's before the drops which will have you writhing rhythmically. Wow!

Ekali & Zhu - Blame (Hunter Siegel Bootleg)*
Premiered at No Neon's 3rd anniversary, shortly after the original's release. That should give you some insight into how much it spoke to the Dark Plur himself. The roughness of that early version still stands strong, but the tweaked and polished final product makes this even more hype.

HXRY - Chicago*
Sneaky deep grooves that seem to bubble up out of nowhere. Just try to name all the samples.

Twinscale - Pandora (ft. Bobby Saint)*
Rapid fire groove that keeps bumping, forcing your feet to the dance-floor. The little cuts and sweeps add a level of excellence that really makes the instrumental special. However, the addition of Bobby Saint's vocals are what put this track over the top.

BICEP - Opal (Four Tet Remix)
These two names alone ought to have you drooling, and boy is this take on "Opal" appetizing. I dare say an instant classic, that just locks you in, making the eight minute cut seem like a mere moment.

First Love - Don't Say Goodnight (FunkyDeps Edit)*
Fantastically fun freak-out of an edit. The horns, bass groove, and keys are top notch, but when you add in those drop dead gorgeous vocals you're talking about an all time great cut. How's your heart feel?

Cyclops & Briden - Perseus*
Ending with a bang, this track absolutely nails the balance between future bass and hard trap. Hits with much of same intensity as RL Grime, that is surrounded by sublime swells of future bass. Brilliant.

Throwback Thursday: Jessie Ware - Keep On Lying (TOKiMONSTA Remix)

In honour of International Women's Day, that just so happens to be a Thursday, I've decided to celebrate with one of my favourite tracks, from two of my favourite artists: Jessie Ware and TOKiMONSTA. Going back four or five years, I had just come across Jessie Ware and fallen deeply for her voice, particularly through her live performance of "Running" on Conan. This spurred a deep dive into her album Devotion and follow up Tough Love, from which "Keep On Lying" is taken. So while in full fledged infatuation with the wonderful Mrs. Ware, I was floored to see that TOKiMONSTA was part of a fivesome set to remix "Keep On Lying" as part of a Red Bull Music & Culture initiative.

While all the mixes carve their own special space, and the accompanying behind the scenes videos are enlightening, TOKiMONSTA's offers up my favourite take on the track. She straddles the line between leaving Ware's vocals untouched and entirely alienating them. And these tenderly retouched vocals play perfectly with the new "Super ADD" type production. TOKiMONSTA's percussion has such a playful punch and poise that again, pairs perfectly with Ware's polished presence. It is at once epic and bold, while still managing to remaining intimate and personal. And it's that human appeal that "has got to be the the best thing I ever felt." Get wrapped up in the penetrating power via stream below, for added intrigue check out the behind the scenes video here, and follow the artists' socials at the bottom.FOLLOW JESSIE WARE: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Bump In The Hump: March 7 (Season 7, Episode 22)

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: fvde x coldtvrky - Passage

This past weekend I was doing my usual bouncing back and forth between social media when Dyzphoria made a simple, wordless tweet, sharing "Passage." I'm not sure why I clicked it, as I often pass these kinds of posts without a thought, but boy am I glad I did. While this collaboration between fvde and coldtvrky is not new, it instantly hit me with its tremendous tuning, lush laid-back delivery, and uncommon exertion of excellence. It's the kind of track that's more than just a mere collection of sounds and melodies, it's an artistic and dramatic arc. The dynamism delves deep into your heart, churning your very core, and as its champion, Dyzphoria, has stated several times, it is criminally slept on. The drops and their playful progression are one thing, but the mastery comes in the final movement that makes "Passage" earn its name like a badge of honour. There's no way you can listen to its entire arc without feeling changed; it is an experience you must seek out again and again. So while I normally limit Bump In The Hump to brand new music, I simply must share this tonight. Stream and enjoy below, add on Spotify here, download via iTunes here, and follow fvde and coldtvrky at the bottom.Joining "Passage" in the journey through Bump In The Hump, is your usual hit of new disco and jacking house courtesy Spacedisco,  along with a smattering of future bass, followed by a touch of techno and bass house. We then look ahead to another busy weekend with shows from Laidback Luke, thook, SkiiTour and Walker & Royce. We then wrap the show up with trap, dubstep and all out bangers in the Fire Finale. Alan Fitzpatrick Changing Seasons Mix

Going back to this past Friday, Alan Fitzpatrick took over the BBC Radio One airwaves with a guest mix for Pete Tong. This edition of Weekend Hot Mix took the theme of "Changing Seasons" as Fitzpatrick put it we're about to move from the clubs to festivals, and with that comes a change in sound, style and delivery. This mix reflects that more spacious, bright and warm feel, as far as techno goes. You can spread out, feel the grass beneath your feet, and the breeze on your face, all while still being jolted by the juxtaposed electronic energy. This mix is a smooth seven track spellbinder. With a new track from the man himself, the always incredible Skream paired with Billy Turner, and the euphoric "Higher" from Lo Shea, this mix demands more than just one listen. The winds of change are coming and the promise of warmth and freedom is on the horizon, with this mix offering up those feelings in droves. Stream below until Monday April 2nd, find the tracklist here, and follow Alan Fitzpatrick at the bottom.

HAIM - Walking Away (Petko Turner's Mura Massa Edit)

Petko Turner is a name I've come across a number of times in the last few months as I continue to dive further into the world of disco/funk edits and remixes, and today I fell headfirst into that ocean. The original impetus came from his most recent release, a take on "Fortihouse," which lead me to his prolific Soundcloud profile. Home to 277 tracks, the selection is epic with remixes and edits of artists and names I've never heard, alongside the likes of Phil Collins, Depeche Mode, Prince, and more. However, one track in particular caught my attention, the subject of this post, HAIM and "Walking Away."

Here Petko's taken his talents to the Mura Masa remix of said track, giving it a bigger bass backing and kicking the tempo up a notch. While the airy dreaminess of Mura Masa's version is all but boiled off, the bleepy brilliance seems stronger and more magical than before, especially in contrast with the bursting-at-the-seams bassline. The allure of HAIM's original and their vocals still remain, but the lyrics are cut back, which reminds me of the first time I heard HAIM, in Duke Dumont's remix of "Falling," This is further proof that whoever is supplying the vocals for HAIM (Este, Danielle or Alana), they are ripe for remixing. I certainly hope we're in for more masterful takes on their tracks, and highly suggest a scroll through Petko Tuner's bountiful back catalog. Download "Walking Away" free via Hyppedit here.

Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel (Remniqe Live Edit)

The past week and a half the internet was aflutter with astonishment over Janelle Monae's "Make Me Feel." Personally, I didn't quite get it, but that seems to be the case with most hyped tracks. While it struck me as very similar to much of Bruno Mars' catalog, I actually started to feel it a little more after hearing the various versions that inevitably arise after such a hype track appears. I came to find more similarities to Prince and Michael Jackson, and how could that not make you smile. This version below, courtesy NYC producer Remniqe, not only nails the brilliance of both of those two but gives it a deeper house groove. Fashioned more for filling the floor than the original, this one quite simply speaks to me, and I'm sure will have people going crazy in the clubs. Sorry I only shared on a Sunday, but I'm sure it'll still go over just as well next weekend. Pick up the free download via Hyppedit here, and have at it!FOLLOW REMNIQE: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Element - Needles

Nearly four months back in November you may recall Brooklyn based producer Element offering up astronomical track "Augustine." This past Thursday he returned with an equally strenuous and scrappy slice of electronic unease with "Needles." He paints a dark and desolate doom-scape, with the keyword being DOOM, as I'm reminded of the video games of the same name. The vocal chops, explosive power, and electrical current crackling throughout bring the battleground to roaring life, especially as bullets, rockets and flames start shooting off in the destruction ridden drops. It is scary space-age stuff that once again showcases Element's incredible musical abilities. Download "Needles" free via Click.dj.FOLLOW ELEMENT: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
