Full, Uncut Interview with Feyln

Recorded July 8th on Zoom, this is my full conversation with Toronto progressive-house and melodic-techno producer, Feyln. Topics included: his earliest inspirations and electronic origins, his status as a "club rat," which led to a love for the local sound, the Toronto scene (including ATTLAS, Simon Doty, Rhyot & EMERCIVE and the Mastermind crew: Crimsen, Oliver Wickham and ASHE), exploring and expanding in the future, the name Feyln (being alright with 'failing'), art vs business and the commodification of art, the return of live music and shows, and, of course, his episode of My Mixtape, which premieres this Saturday, July 17th at 11 PM EDT on Radio Humber. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Simon Doty - House For All

My Mixtape is back with a new episode this week, and in turn, we'll be closing out tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump with a clip of my conversation with Toronto house and techno producer, Feyln. With that mind, there's no better track to tease tonight's episode than "House For All," from Simon Doty's Solaris EP. Not only is Doty known to straddle the line between progressive house and melodic techno, but he is one of Feyln's main inspirations, and like "House For All," it is the piano that takes the role of protagonist, propelling his upcoming episode of My Mixtape.

Catch "House For All" at the tail end of tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump, live from 7-9 EDT on Radio Humber, or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud, here. Find my full conversation with Feyln here tomorrow and come back Saturday at 11 PM EDT for the premiere of My Mixtape featuring Feyln.

Full, Uncut Interview with MAP (2021)

Recorded June 10th on Zoom, this is my full conversation with the Winnipeg house trio of Marco Roberto (previously Mark Me Low), Ayge and PRZM, together known as MAP. Topics included: the evolution of MAP Mondays from a closed-door hangout/production session to an inclusive stream, an update on Winnipeg's reception to house music, the evolution of the MAP sound, what each member brings to the table, inspiration from the likes of Carlo Lio, Nathan Barato and Rawthentic Music, their ongoing interactive bi-weekly Twitch shows, their upcoming releases and, of course, their second episode of My Mixtape, which premieres Saturday, June 19th at 11 PM EDT on Radio Humber.FOLLOW MAP: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITCH TWITTER

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Carlo Lio & Nathan Barato - Girl Meets Boy

It's our last show before the official start to summer, and we've got vibes for days. As usual, Bump In The Hump will run the gamut of genres tonight with an assortment of acid, breaks, DnB, funk, garage and more. Those that follow the show closely will know that this week also marks the return of My Mixtape, and it's because of that that we end tonight's episode with the latest from the power pairing known as The Roaches, Carlo Lio and Nathan Barato.

Released on Rawthentic, a favourite label of Marco Roberto (the M of MAP), "Girl Meets Boy" is a seven-minute-long masterclass in the interweaving intricacies of top-notch tech house. Always adding and subtracting sounds while further playing with the percussion and samples, this is no straightforward ride but rather an irresistibly circuitous creation. The perfect track to conclude tonight's episode, immediately before a clip of my conversation with Marco, Ayge and PRZM of MAP as Marco extols the virtues of Lio and Barato later in our interview. Catch the second edition of My Mixtape featuring MAP Saturday at 11 PM EDT on Radio Humber, and buckle in for tonight's all-new episode of Bump In The Hump live from 7-9 EDT, or find it after the fact, as cataloged on Mixcloud, here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peak: Eekkoo - Labyrinth

I just got back from a bike ride, and I can confirm it feels like June out there, and summer is most definitely on the way. Before then, we've got a couple of episodes of Bump In The Hump that return to two full hours of new Canadian electronic and dance as we put My Mixtape on a brief pause. Tonight's episode overflows with techno, trap, psytrance and a downpour of disco and DnB. We go up and down and all around, and because of that, the best tease of the episode is Eekkoo's "Labyrinth." While still immense in its essential, short edit form, Eekkoo's latest mau5trap majesty is much better enjoyed in its extended form (below). It showcases the enduring power of the piano, pulling you ever closer until you're lost forever in its captivating clutches. Get "Labyrinth" as part of new release Eleven and hear it as part of Bump In The Hump, live tonight from 7-9 PM EDT, or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: smol & Deliriousninja - City Nois

Continuing to pair Bump In The Hump with My Mixtape, we look ahead to PRZM's second all-Canadian hour this week. Of course, the emphasis remains on the latest and greatest across all genres, but the final 15 or 20 minutes of tonight's show blurs the lines between trap, dubstep, and bass, just as PRZM does in his mix. In fact, the final track in tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump provides the perfect segue into my conversation with Jorel Minuk, the versatile producer who also makes up one-third of MAP, in which we discuss his sonic evolution, largely leaving dubstep behind in favour of so-called Trap 2. That differentiation, the familial Winnipeg scene, and PRZM's love for Partica highlight the full, uncut interview, which drops tomorrow. Until then, prepare yourself for tonight's all-new episode with its killer closing cut "City Nois" from smol and Deliriousninja, out now on the former's DoYu Digital. Catch Bump In The Hump live tonight from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber or after the fact, as cataloged on Mixcloud here. My Mixtape featuring PRZM Vol. 2 premieres Saturday, May 29th at 11 PM EDT.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: TDJ - Yesterday

You may have noticed that I've been trying to tailor each episode of Bump In The Hump to fit that week's My Mixtape guest. Last week with Reezy, the theme was pretty obvious: house. This week, however, is a different story. In fact, it's very much the crux of my interview with Edmonton's Benoît Guimond, the man behind angel science and many other monikers. Just what is his sound, and how does he define it? Well, we'll hear from the man himself at the end of this episode, but before then, we'll take in audio odyssey divided into three distinct sections. Opening organic before breaking into DnB and closing with captivating breaks and sublime swells, I believe this episode displays much of the same alchemy as angel science. Among that final third, TDJ's "Yesterday" may well be the best blend of the spacey, dream-like breaks and atmosphere that occurs in so much of angel science's offerings. Find "Yesterday" below and catch it in the mix live tonight from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud. My Mixtape featuring angel science airs Saturday at 11 PM EDT.

Full, Uncut Interview with Reezy

Recorded May 6th on Zoom, this is my full conversation with Reese Frey, aka Reezy. Topics included: his evolution from basement DJ to Rootin' Tootin' Tech House producer, the importance of groove and the human touch in such an electronic heavy sound, the supportiveness of the Vancouver scene, the struggle of playing to a camera, his love for VIBRANCY (where his LNDN collab is set to be released), receiving support from Dr. Fresch, and what the future holds for Reezy, a fair amount of which you can hear in his episode of My Mixtape which premieres this Saturday, May 15th at 11 PM EDT on Radio Humber. Dig into our full conversation below, and be sure to follow his socials at the bottom.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Liam Keery - Sickness

One of the great pleasures of the My Mixtape series, apart from all the IDs and hours of enjoyment, is discovering new artists. Often the guest mixer will opt to showcase their local scene, and while that is largely the case with My Mixtape featuring Reezy, this new hour reaches beyond his native Vancouver. Like Karbon a couple weeks ago, tonight's all-new episode of Bump In The Hump features another artist I was put onto by Reezy, Toronto's Liam Keery. The penultimate track in tonight's three-pronged house approach (deep/progressive, groovy/disco, tech/bass), "Sickness" features a wicked, rolling bassline, dope drum delivery and an utterly infectious atmosphere. Perhaps the ultimate teaser for Reezy's hour of so-called Rootin' Tootin Tech House, get "Sickness" below and catch it in the mix tonight, live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber, or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud here. Finally, get your fix of house Saturday with My Mixtape featuring Reezy, which premieres at 11 PM EDT.

Full, Uncut Interview with Fahjah

Recorded May 1st on Zoom, this is my full conversation with Kassandre Maharajh, aka Fahjah. Topics included: his musical origin story and move from trance to psytrance to speed house, rave and beyond, incorporating his diverse instrumental background (piano, drums, saxophone, clarinet, bansuri, erhu) into his many moods/modes, the emphasis on journey rather than destination, the freedom to make what he wants and home he's found at Brooklyn Fire, the support of its legendary founder Tommie Sunshine, the nostalgic and oft euphoric party vibes at the core of his recent productions (likely spurred by early influences from Eurodance thanks to his mom and older brothers), and finally, what the future holds for Fahjah, a fair amount of which you can hear in his episode of My Mixtape which premieres this Saturday, May 8th at 11 PM EDT on Radio Humber. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Bensley - That Feeling

Last week we had his house edit, and this week we go back to the original DnB offering from Bensley, "That Feeling." In the middle of a massive run of DnB, this genre-bending affair nails the theme of tonight's all-new episode of Bump In The Hump. Like this week's guest on My Mixtape, Fahjah, "That Feeling" delivers party vibes first and foremost, leaving convention and expectation in the dust. Similarly, tonight's episode starts where Fahjah did, trance. Then, further like Fahjah, we embark on a journey that includes flashes of acid, electro, psy, garage, funk and fire. It's as eclectic as ever and one hell of a ride, concluding with a clip of my conversation with Fahjah. Listen live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber, and find the full Bump In The Hump catalogue at Mixcloud. Get "That Feeling" here.
