Dukwa - My Journey Into Eternity

Some tracks have an unavoidable stickiness to them. Hear them once, even if only for a minute, and somehow they've managed to make a home in your head for all eternity. That was the case for me and Dukwa's "My Journey Into Eternity."

Championed by Annie Mac, I first came across this captivating affair in one of Annie's shows, thinking "boy, this is really cool, I have to remember it," before proceeding to write it down in my ongoing list of tracks watch out for. Again a week later, there was this wicked lick bouncing all over the BBC airwaves. I had not remembered the name, but indeed the electric energy of its vivacious leading line. Finally last Friday, we were gifted the release of Tears Like Stones, complete with the life-affirming lusciousness of "My Journey Into Eternity."

A masterclass in the power of the piano, Dukwa's genius shines through the careening chords, electric lilts, brilliant backing elements and complimentary percussion. As catchy as anything I've heard all year, I've already developed a signature dance move for "My Journey Into Eternity" and can only imagine how many others will find themselves playing the air piano along to this absolute gem. Stream the sublime sojourn below and get Tears Like Stones from Beatport, Phonica, Clone, Juno or Redeye.FOLLOW DUKWA: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Konka - Corsette

Showcasing west coast talent as well as anyone Westwood Recordings and their X imprint released a new compilation a couple weeks back with X's Vol. 5. We've already heard a few cuts from the comp on Bump In The Hump, but my favourite Konka's "Corsette" finally finds a home in this week's all new episode. Part of an extended run of bangers, Konka unleashes a brilliant blend of brass and bass amidst a storm of percussion. "Corsette" becomes a real bump and grind affair after its initial drop, inspiring its listeners to hit something. As though a theme made for Red Bull's Crashed Ice, the ominous opening, closing and bridging sections set the scene as the skaters take their marks before diving into chaos and crushed bones as the drops (and the skaters) hit. Stream "Corsette" below and catch it in the mix live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud.

Fractal Fantasy - Virtua

Once again the Fractal Fantasy crew remind us they're in a league of their own. Known for their immersive, multimedia productions Zora Jones and Sinjin Hawke have a new project on their hands. Virtua is both a five-track compilation and "a space to foster potent communal experiences and un-distill pop culture." While the space is not real, at least yet, you can experience a 360° fly through as you enjoy each of the new tracks at fractalfantasy.net With music befitting of a club unlike any other, each of the five tracks combine to provide a gripping experience with Hawke and Jones' book-ending offerings serving as the initial hook and captivating call-back, respectively. The meaty middle of Virtua comes from Martyn Bootyspoon, Zubotnik and Xzavier Stone whose powerful productions are sure to send you spiraling into the shared consciousness of the club, like some kind of cross between the Borg and HAL 9000. Tap into the higher power that is Virtua here and dig in to the killer compilation below.

KUU on Diplo & Friends

A new source of optimism arose in the beginning of this month. With little fanfare, KUU first appeared on the scene July 6th with the release of "Twisted Melons Mix Vol. 1." One week later they followed it with a remix of Madonna's "Ray Of Light." Their first proper introduction came a mere three days later as the new grouping of Riton, Shungudzo and Alex Metric (left to right above) released their debut original "How Could I Ever."

For more than a decade Riton and Metric have been making their mark through both solo and collaborative projects and have become staples of the scene, each garnering a Grammy along the way. Now working together with Shungudzo, KUU has the makings of a supergroup and with an appearance on this weekend's Diplo & Friends, we're getting a taste of what they've got in store. The hour long session has more than a handful of new KUU exclusives (originals and otherwise), classics from Happy Mondays, Rocker's Revenge, and Le Knight Club alongside a couple more recent releases.

An obvious fit for Ibiza, as it's where their name comes (KU Club which has since become Privilege Ibiza), KUU have captured the easy-going, warm and eclectic nature of the island, both in their productions and the mix itself. While that might preclude us from predicting just what KUU could do in the future, we can only imagine that it'll be house driven and, considering the quality of its producers, dutifully done. Highly accessible and utterly intoxicating, "How Could I Ever" is a brilliant start, and the other originals in the mix, "Riding In Your Car" and "Voices," seem equally exciting and inspired. While I said I wasn't going to blog this week, I can't just pretend like this week didn't come with tons of incredible new tunes, so here's an abbreviated version of Enlightened Listening. As always I've compiled it for maximum flow, moving from more chill, groovy stuff to heavier, banging bits. There's a great variety with several standouts. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: 2¢ - Rebel (MSTRKRFT Remix)

An wild roller coaster ride, this week's episode of Bump In The Hump has more barrel rolls, drops and loop-the-loops than Canada's Wonderland and West Edmonton Mall combined. An up and down affair, we move back and forth between countless genres while focusing on techno, house and disco/funk. A killer climb in the techno section comes from MSTRKRFT who, like fellow Torontonian thook, remix the dynamic duo of Craze and Four Color Zack, . Turning "Rebel" into a chugging acid affair, MSTRKRFT's remix is sure to send your hands into the air as its twists, turns and drops cause your stomach to lurch into your throat. This visceral vision caps a brutally banging run of techno on tonight's episode which concludes with a clip of my conversation with Calgary's The Accountant, this week's guest on My Mixtape. Enlightened Listening for July 17

It's the weekend and that means mountains of new music for your ears. Coming into this week there were a few releases I'd had bookmarked, but little did I know just how much amazing content was on the way. Running 20 releases deep, this week's Enlightened Listening features an insanely long list of my favourite artists.

ATTLAS leads things off with a sublime single, which we first heard a demo of in September of 2018. Jim-E Stack follows that with the kind of soul-snatching quality we've come to expect. Building the energy back up, a Dombresky remix of TOKiMONSTA and a Lane 8 collab follow, each with captivating dance vibes. In a stunning turn, I just learned that Alex Metric, Riton and Shungudzo have combined under the KUU moniker and today they delivered their sensational debut single "How Could I Ever?," which follows a fabulous remix of Madonna (here). Turning towards disco we get an awesome run of my favourites in Late Nite Tuff Guy, Purple Disco Machine, Yuksek and Aeroplane remixing PNAU, Gaga & Grande, Dimitri From Paris & Aeroplane and Horse Meat Disco, respectively.

The remixes continue as Amtrac scores four equally alluring offerings from Grum, David Jackson, Francesca Lombardo and Panteros666. Qrion bookends this run of remixes with yet another slice of stunning craftsmanship. As things turn epic, Above & Beyond lead the way with a powerful, emotional trance cut ahead of a trio of EPs from GIGEE, 8Kays and Brassica. The former is exceptional tech house, the middle the kind of mystifying deep house that makes it a perfect fit on Booka Shade's Blaufield, and the latter an awe-inspiring odyssey through synths - a perfect fit for Feel My Bicep. And while we're on perfect fits, how does Soulwax and LA Priest sound? Amazing. That's how.

Tiga remains in top form as he follows his HudMo collab with another familiar face in Audion. This Is A Dream is classic Tiga, lively and life-giving techno. Next up is a nine-track compilation from Boysnoize Records featuring all kinds of awesomeness; a club killing comp that is sure to remind us all of the good old days in a sweaty club. And speaking of club killing stuff, thook drops off a triple-shot of sickness that one friend described as an "assassinating a pharaoh type beat." Finally, we walk off with an explosion at our backs as QUIX and Vincent join forces for TIGER DROOL, a massive new project full of promise. For those hoping Vincent would return to his XVII origins, this is your Superbowl.

Dig into the playlist below and find each individual release linked at the bottom. Have a great weekend!

ATTLAS - The Night Air Was Cool

Jim-E Stack - Note To Self (ft. Empress Of)

Murlo - Primal

An artist across mediums, Murlo continues to craft an unbelievably vivid world of his own. Last year's divine Dolos LP was one of the most captivating projects 2019 had to offer, with three of its tracks appearing in my year end countdown (here). Yesterday the Manchester-based master craftsman gave us our first taste of its followup, "Primal" from forthcoming four-part EP Primed For Primal. Due out August 14th, this new chapter comes complete with art prints (one per track), each digitally painted by Murlo himself.

Immediately reminiscent of Dolos' atmosphere, "Primal" feels as though it could be a prelude or prequel as it exudes evolution with all manner of life bursting into action. The percussion piques our interest right out of the gate as the following vocal, synth and string swells draw us inescapably into Murlo's grasp. Much like the opening of The Lion King, there's a growing anticipation and electricity to "Primal," particularly evident as powerful chord foundations combine with the vocals as the first rays of sunlight burst over the horizon or as Rafiki holds Simba aloft. The reverence and hope at the heart of the track is truly breathtaking, especially in the final minute as Murlo strips the track down to its bare bones before one final flourish, ultimately leaving "Primal" with a bit of a cliffhanger as we wait for its successor, "Rattle."

Wake up to promise of "Primal" below and get it instantly with the pre-order of Primed For Primal.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Reezy - Casual Cruelty

The west coast of Canada certainly knows how to roll. BC especially is full of floor-filling house DJs from STUND, Broken Future, Average Gypsy, Landon Terrace, Hot Tub and a whole host of others. One of the most reliable sources is Sheppard Records, and their latest "Casual Cruelty" from Vancouver's Reezy is no exception. Sitting in the middle of a sick house section on tonight's episode, this wicked roller is sure to catch your ear and leave your body bouncing. Even without a proper system, the movement and power inherent in "Casual Cruelty" is unmistakable. Reezy's slick tech house production cruises along with an exceptional ease, sprinkling in enough punctuating spices to keep you entertained throughout four and a half minute affair. Enjoy now below and catch it on Bump In The Hump tonight, live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber, or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud.

Hidden Face - Anxiety EP

Insomniac Records' IN/ROTATION imprint continues to capture my attention. A launch pad for rising house producers, they've hosted the likes of Cloverdale, Proxy, X&G, SLATIN, NuKid and TYPE3 this year alone. Their latest, today's release of Anxiety from Parisian producer Hidden Face, features two equally unsettling offerings.

The title track lives up to its namesake almost immediately, giving its listeners goosebumps with some shiver-inducing, cold and creepy sounds right out of the gate. That icy, ominous feeling becomes a full fledged Gothic ghoul as the house beat kicks in, delivering waves of dread with each warped synth stride in its unholy drops. A masterful mood-setter, "Anxiety" remains present in your mind as you enter into the equally disquieting Dido-aided b-side "Talk To Me Again." Making use of the British songstress' Grammy nominated "White Flag," Hidden Face dives deeper into the pool of perturbing vibes. The atmosphere of this followup is subtly suffocating, exuding the feelings of dread and drowning, as its listeners slowly sink deeper into the abyss. That said, "Talk To Me Again" delivers a dope X-Files-esque dance feel, that somehow has me forgetting its foreboding core, beckoning me to the dance-floor. Each drop features a killer combination of strobing bass, swirling synths and a sparkling top-line.

Sneaky good, both bits of Anxiety are likely to become indelibly etched onto your brain, so consume Hidden Face's brilliance with care. Stream the EP below and get it from your preferred retailer here.

Tom Browne - Funkin' For Jamaica (Late Nite Tuff Guy Remix)

The legendary Late Nite Tuff Guy is back with another epic edit of original multi-tracks. Reworking one of his favourite funk joints, jazz trumpeter Tom Browne's 1980 classic "Funkin' For Jamaica," Cam Bianchetti's brilliance can be found all over this new six minute sensation. The live energy that made the original production feel so funky and soulful is still omnipresent in LNTG's remix. Browne's trumpet still soars above the massive bass roll-out, while the guitar and piano continue to punctuate perfectly. One could easily rock out to this instrumental groove for hours on end, but the soul of "Funkin' For Jamaica" would be incomplete without Toni Smith's sensational vocals. A truly amped up revision, both the bass and percussion get extra oomph while the overall progression gets an extension to allow for a more fulsome and dance-friendly delivery. Each section is sublime, building brilliantly into the next, combining to create a fabulous funk epic. Dig in below and follow LNTG for more magical music.

Enlightened Listening for July 10

Back to our normal Spotify format for this week's edition of Enlightened Listening. The weather is still at its peak so I'll keep things short. My favourite labels had a big day here as All Day I Dream, This Never Happened, Anjuna, Afterlife and Night Bass all deliver the quality I've come to expect. There's another taste of Tensnake's forthcoming album in new single "Strange Without You." Prins Thomas appears twice, first alongside Lindstrøm and then again with an epic album in Træns (which I can't wait to get properly lost in). Like the latter, Low:r's EP will certainly help me power over the hills on my next bike ride, as will the equally awesome Ekcle track "Sosen Yahn." Filling out the rest of the playlist are strong singles from Good Times Ahead x Tony Romera, Goldroom x Moontower, and Jessy Lanza, as well as remixes from Yuksek, The Glitch Mob and Madeaux. Find each individual release linked below. Enjoy!

Paul Mond - FLIP SEASON 2

Just over six months after his first FLIP SEASON release, indie bouncin innovator Paul Mond is back with SEASON 2 today. Putting new spins on classic cuts from the worlds of hip hop, rap and electronic, FLIP SEASON 2 finds Lil Jon, Daft Punk, Pharrell, TNGHT and others in all new arenas. Bringing together his unique blend of baile, future beats and jersey club, Mond's 11 new productions will have you seeing some of your favourites in an all new light.

Leading the way, Lil Jon's "Get Low" is a classic indie bouncin offering, keeping its quality vocals largely intact while leaning on Mond's trademark guitar and percussion. Equally as get-down inspiring as the original, this new flavour is all kinds of awesome. Also dance-floor dominant, the Daft Punk "Technologic" flip is a blown-speaker banger that makes use of sick new percussion. Another standout track follows that as Mond seamlessly blends the choral quality of Kanye's Sunday Service with his "Fade" from The Life Of Pablo. Albeit brief, the brilliant and banging nature of "faith" is sure to pique interest, turn heads and have the dance-floor filling up. Jumping a little further ahead, my favourite of the bunch, Lil Wayne's "A Milli," delivers a slick new cascading electronic bed that both makes room for Wayne's flow and plays perfectly against it. Ill as can be, it would be wild to see a crowd's reaction to this going off in a club, but I guess we'll have to settle for a comment section's reaction on a live stream.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Tiga & Hudson Mohawke - Love Minus Zero

There may be no more obvious track for me to feature in this weekly sneak peek at Bump In The Hump. Of course Tiga is one of the show's must trusted producers, and it's not the first time he's appeared alongside the versatile Hudson Mohawke (see "Planet E"). However there is nothing quite like "Love Minus Zero."

Featuring a sound they're calling 'hardcore romance,' this new collaboration has instantly become the most talked about production on the planet. Skream, Four Tet, Jackmaster, Jacques Greene, and of course Annie Mac who premiered it, have all shared their support for the triumphant, emo-odyssey that is "Love Minus Zero." As Tiga told Annie during Monday's in depth interview (listen back here), he and Hudson's studio process features a "who can put their hands in the air higher" contest, bonding over letting go of sophistication and pretense. And boy does "Love Minus Zero" ooze with a fabulous freedom, urging its listeners to let go, spread their wings and fly off into the sunset that is the track's sublime, spellbinding synths and swoon-worthy warmth.

A surefire inclusion in this year's best of list, catch "Love Minus Zero" on tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump live from 7-9 PM EDT on Radio Humber or after the fact, as cataloged on Mixcloud here.

Theo Kottis - Never

After scoring one of my favourite tracks of 2019 with "Turning Around," Edinburgh's Theo Kottis has kept up the quality in 2020. He dropped a dreamy EP on Beautiful Strangers in March and Friday he found himself back on the energizing banger bandwagon with sensational slice "Never." A resplendent, rollicking piano-powered joint, Kottis has once again captured the intoxicating energy that had me replaying "Turning Around" time and time again. An unabashed, do-whatever-you-want-and-call-it-a-dance affair, "Never" is wacky, wavy, flailing fun. Of course the piano is the engine of this propulsive production, but the rest of the track cannot be discounted. The drums are dutifully designed, popping off to perfection, while the strings sew the synths, bass and backing atmosphere together perfectly. As slick as it is busy, "Never" is another reminder to get on the Theo Kottis bandwagon while there's still room. Weiss & Harry Romero - Where Do We Go?

After scoring one of 2018's hottest summer records with "Feel My Needs," London producer Weiss delivered a sensational followup in "Let Me Love You" last year. Seems a trifecta is in order as Friday he joined forces with NYC's Harry Romero for the fabulous and catchy "Where Do We Go?" Driven by an Alan Parsons Project sample, from 1980's "Games People Play," this new tune begs for replay after replay, especially due to its mere 2:30 runtime. It is incredibly polished, tightly wound and supremely crafted with each element beckoning the next progression in quick succession, propelling its listeners to the floor and their arms to the air. It's got a great inspiring and uplifting quality to it, in spite of the directionless nature of its vocals/lyrics. That said, the vocals are indeed the key to the track's hook, playing perfectly around the masterful musical bed. While I've only had a few days with "Where Do We Go?" I can confirm it is simply sublime under the summer sun. Add it to your repertoire now here.
