Enlightened Listening for August 7 (Spotify Edition)

As mentioned in my previous post, the August 7th Bandcamp edition of Enlightened Listening, I've made two versions of the weekly release playlist with this one coming from Spotify. Here I've organized the 16 releases with the hopes of the 38 tracks playing out cohesively. There's numerous incredible remixes, several strong originals and an absolutely fabulous album from House Gospel Choir. Enlightened Listening for July 10

Back to our normal Spotify format for this week's edition of Enlightened Listening. The weather is still at its peak so I'll keep things short. My favourite labels had a big day here as All Day I Dream, This Never Happened, Anjuna, Afterlife and Night Bass all deliver the quality I've come to expect. There's another taste of Tensnake's forthcoming album in new single "Strange Without You." Prins Thomas appears twice, first alongside Lindstrøm and then again with an epic album in Træns (which I can't wait to get properly lost in). Like the latter, Low:r's EP will certainly help me power over the hills on my next bike ride, as will the equally awesome Ekcle track "Sosen Yahn." Filling out the rest of the playlist are strong singles from Good Times Ahead x Tony Romera, Goldroom x Moontower, and Jessy Lanza, as well as remixes from Yuksek, The Glitch Mob and Madeaux. Enlightened Listening for October 4

Three weeks ago I thought I was on the precipice of returning to regular blogging and a new season of Bump In The Hump. However that weekend I spilled on my laptop, and while I'm writing to you from said computer, it is no longer on my lap as I am forced use an external keyboard and mouse while I continue to wait for the replacement part to arrive. That said mountains of music continue to be released, and while I spent most of my week wading through the weeks I missed, I've decided to focus on this Friday's releases via a new edition of Enlightened Listening. Listen below and find a brief blow by blow in the next paragraph.

As always, I like to open with cool cuts and that's what we get with the latest from Goldroom. His dreamy delight leads us into funky fun and eventually acid in Justin Jay's Future Feels EP. Following  that comes a killer four track EP from Oliver Koletzki who offers up awesome, expansive grooves rife with wild sound and a plenitude of percussion. The legendary Eric Prydz then follows with his epic 13-track PRYDA 15 VOL III album, which is of course killer quality, through and through. Turning towards bass house, there's four banging EPs back to back from trusted names like Jack Beats, NuKid, Destructo and CONFESSION. Closing out that ridiculous run is a track BLANSH had sent me in January, and while I've always been a fan of his work, I can honestly say "Way Up" is my favourite. And speaking of favourites, Gesaffelstein is back again and much closer to my favourite Gesaffelstein in the diabolically dark, shiver inducing power punch that we got from 2010-2013. Following the incredible power of NOVO SONIC SYSTEM comes Datassette's Kestrel Manoeuvers In The Dark, a brilliant mind-bending display of synth work. Finally we close with a 15-track deadmau5 remix package featuring the likes of Morgan Page, Pig&Dan, Spencer Brown and a whole host more. Enjoy!

Enlightened Listening for May 20

Once again I'm late with this week's Enlightened Listening, but as always these tunes deserve showcasing. Starting funky Gramatik and Big Gigantic get together for some fat grooves, which Goldroom then follows with a cool, glistening joint. Slightly more spaced out, Massimiliano Pagliara blends disco and acid in his remix of "Zone Non Linear." Another rolling ride follows with Amtrac's chugging "Formal Disco," which is then followed by the latest luxuriousness of Kölsch. Things get progressive as we turn to the evaporating ease of "Car Park In The Sky," before Jaytech blasts things back to earth with "Tigerlily." Techno then takes over with another unreal EP from mau5trap in Sara Landry's Wait. Finally the inimitable, both wonderfully organic and entirely unearthly, sound design of thook turns the final trick with NOISE. Find individual releases at the bottom and stream below.

Enlightened Listening for April 5

It's time to become one with the weekend by enjoying the latest offerings from the wonderful world of electronic music. This week's Enlightened Listening features a strong serving of smooth flowing, electronic ease, a dash of funky fun and a big banging remix EP to close things out. Maxd opens with some cool lofi creativity which bleeds beautifully into bitbird's 3rd Gouldian Finch compilation which houses some supremely slick creations from Knapsack, Rome in Silver, Duskus and more. Next up galen tipton taps into the energetic chiptune side bitbird used to command. The genius of GRiZ comes through with another next level album featuring the likes of Snoop Dogg, Bootsy Collins & Wiz Khalifa, among others. And speaking of next level albums, Jai Wolf would seem to have found his groove as The Cure To Loneliness is not just exceptionally crafted, but incredibly heartfelt and heartening; truly beautiful. And it doesn't get much more beautiful than Goldroom's "Yellow Flowers" which with each and every play has led my jaw to drop to the floor. Staying on the floor but with the feet this time, Myd manages to concoct one of the most intoxicating offerings of the year. Rounding out the singles, Soulwax's remix of "Work It" sparks up some stunningly twisted techno, sure to have your head spinning. Finally BIJOU has brought together one of the better remix packages of the year tapping ANGELZ, YOOKiE, Gerry Gonza and others to take on the malicious "Memories." Enjoy below!

There are very few 'pop' artists I enjoy more than LIZ. Over the years she's tapped some talented producers to bring to life her incredible artistic vision. Favourites include: Djemba Djemba for "Underdogs" with RiFF RAFF, Lido for "Y2K," SOPHIE for "When I Rule The World," Henrik The Artist for "Wild Target," and Wave Racer for "Queen Of Me." Yesterday she did it again as she linked up with Grammy nominated Finnish producer, Nico Stadi whose credits include Justin Bieber, Lindsey Stirling and Goldroom, to name just a few.

"Pandemonium" does a great job of living up to its complex and crazy namesake with its wild sound design and onslaught of effects. That said Stadi does a masterful job of keep it all taught, in its short pop delivery. LIZ's lyrics mirror the groove and get down of the bouncy bed, bringing her trademark throwback fun and goofiness, never more apparent than in the line "I make it pop like a VHS." And while there's always room for experimentation and progression in an artistic ouvre, consistency in the world your art creates is the best reward for your fans. That's exactly what we get with the look for "Pandemonium" which arises at the end of the music video from her previous single, "Super Duper Nova." Autograf - Future Sauce

Future funk fabricators Autograf have once again jumped ahead in time, designing the delicious and delectable track, "Future Sauce." Like the Sriracha bottles in the art, I fully expect Autograf's latest to be doused on everything, with its fresh and exciting flavour. The Chicago based trio, truly takes their art to heart, not just in composition, but in trying new things, pushing the boundaries and widening their base. While "Future Sauce" is a brilliant combination of all things Autograf, it has a rhythm and style unlike many of their previous tracks. The piano is played with virtuoso dexterity, that for some reason reminds me of Ramin Djawadi's "Light Of The Seven" from the Game Of Thrones finale. And while you may enjoy that kind of piano, it can perhaps be underwhelming, leaving you wondering where this track is going. Then come the 1:30 mark, the bass and drums really kick in, leading up to the awesome slamming drop with blistering bass of epic proportions. When all of the elements come together for that short stretch, Autograf's musical mastery is on full display, as the funk flies from their fingers. After having seen Autograf perform live earlier this year, I highly recommend checking out their current tour. If the thought of seeing them perform "Future Sauce" live isn't enough to get your heart pounding, I'd recommend having a doctor check on that.
