Enlightened Listening for April 9

Another Friday means another edition of Enlightened Listening. This week's new music playlist opens with CFCF's incredible ride, memoryland, whose lead single, "Life Is Perfecto," has been one of my favourite tracks of the year so far. Immediately following that are a couple of captivating singles from Tor and Overmono, the former being gentle, gorgeous and organic, while the latter launches our playlist into space. Staying in the stars, Booka Shade and Bontan come together for galactic cruiser, St. Kilda Nights. Bringing in some tension, Solomun shows off his deft touch with "The Center Will Not Hold." 

Breaking the levy, we get a couple exhilarating offerings from Nikki Nair and Dropwizz, both of whom delivers a unique, inspired rush. Taking us into our final section of house/disco/pop, I've selected the closing cut from OCULA's Closer To The Edge EP, "Nevermore," a beautiful, groovy and uplifting affair. Working with grooves for the first time in a while, ANGELZ samples some CeeLo for fabulous "Inspheration." While it's not a cover of the same-named song from the Jungle Book as I'd hoped, Hammer's I Wanna Be Like You does indeed deliver a couple instances of dance-ready nostalgia. Finally, closing out the playlist is another pair of singles, in our first taste of Jayda G's forthcoming DJ-Kicks LP, ahead of the fabulous and funky finale from Petticoat.

Enlightened Listening for March 12

Once again we've had an incredible week of releases, making for a massive edition of Enlightened Listening. Stretching past the seven-hour mark while coming in just at just less than 100 tracks, the new music playlist is built upon a handful of long-form projects and several sensational singles.

Thematically, the first six releases fit together under the progressive house/trance umbrella. We open with the culmination of two teased albums from CRi and Sultan + Shepard, the latter showcasing the duo in top form. With a similar sentiment, ASHE is on the top of his game with Strangers Dream which features "Stay," a quintessential ASHE production, and two truly sublime slices in "Earth Room"& "Bleeding Heart." Later, TDJ whets our appetite for TDJ002 with dreamy delivery "Lalala."

Next up, London Grammar grace us with a new obsession-worthy single in the hook-driven "How Does It Feel." Hot on the heels of that heavenly offering are two more moving groovers in Jayda G's gorgeous remix of Rhye and Friend Within's equally fabulous LP Hope. Turning more tech-driven, Morgan Geist's masterful remix of Marie Davidson leads us down the ever-darker, more intense and driving backend of this playlist. From the at times bright and groovy designs of Black Loops and Doss to the scorching DnB of Denham Audio, Sleepnet and John Rolodex, this playlist never lacks power. As if taking that last statement as a challenge, the playlist runs right off the rails with the unhinged energy and brutal bangers of ALRT, Dion Timmer, HNTR and Dropwizz. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: QUIX & Juelz - Chicane Remixes

After a couple episodes centred around epic action, Bump In The Hump delivers a more diverse array of offerings this week. While we continue to showcase the incredible longer form releases from Simon Doty, Sultan + Shepard, ATTLAS and others, we do indeed get down and dirty with a bunch of bangers. Highlighting said section of scorchers is a cut from QUIX & Juelz's Chicane Remixes, which is surrounded by dark DnB and genre-defying madness from Dropwizz and Bishu. Just like those latter two, the remix EP itself delivers diverse and forward-thinking fire while largely maintaining the awesome power of the original. With a list of names that includes Kumarion, msft and Capshun, "Chicane" benefits from a breath of fresh air from some of the underground's hottest talents. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: FUXWITHIT 6 Year Anniversary Party

While I blog on my own here, I also write for my friends over at FUXWITHIT every month or so. When it comes to underground artists making bass, experimental, trap, and more there's no better outlet. They've got a growing list of guest mixes and are always on top things when it comes to premiering new tunes. This Monday marked their 6th anniversary online and Friday they'll be celebrating said occasion at Junction City Music Hall with Bump In The Hump favourites Dropwizz and Lingopolus spinning beside founder ClassyVlassy.
