Swingers & Maximo - She Don't Lie (ft. Jenny Voss)

Soundcloud's The Upload playlist keeps turning me onto remixes/covers/edits of classic tracks. The latest such offering sees San Diego's Swingers and Maximo team up for a crisp tech house take on J.J. Cale's all-timer "Cocaine."

Even in this quantized, rolling house version, there's no mistaking the slick riffs or timeless lyrics made popular by Eric Clapton. Stepping in for Slowhand (at least vocally) Jenny Voss rides the ever swelling waves of Swingers and Maximo masterfully, delivering a more forceful and dynamic vocal than either Cale or Clapton. And of course this works perfectly in the new club vibe, both to tip off listeners that this is indeed a version of the track their dads always play and to encourage the crowd to sing along. Get in on the tech house take of "Cocaine" with the Bangers Only release of "She Don't Lie" below.

Antic - Extranjero (ft. Della)

Yesterday, Anjunadeep stalwart Antic released a three-track EP entitled Delta Dunes. With a non-linear tracklist, the EP opens with a deep and dubious vocal track in "I Cannot Believe," which is followed by the bright and crisp breaks of its title track. Delta Dunes' final form reveals itself as a nostalgic-laden synth-pop affair in "Extranjero" featuring Spaniard Della. My favourite of the three, "Extranjero" bursts right out of the gate with warm, warbling synths which slowly make room for the soft vocal melody that when combined with the pleasing and powerful musical bed imagines an 80s movie montage. Even the lyrical content seems to mimic that of a scene straight from a sentimental romcom as the lines "I'll never let you go" and "I know you so well" could easy play out as the protagonist rushes to set things right by letting the love of their life know their true feelings. A heart-warmer for sure, "Extranjero" is a closing cut par excellence. Stream it now below and get it as part of Delta Dunes here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Austra - Anywayz (Avalon Emerson 14th Life Version)

Of the many standout tracks in tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump, there may be no more stunning than the combination of Avalon Emerson and Austra. The grand finale to the former's just released DJ-Kicks album, the new 14th Life Version of HiRUDiN's opening number "Anywayz" is a momentous and masterfully produced epic. Building a serene, yet somehow haunting, soundscape for Katie Stelmanis' vocals to emerge from, Avalon Emerson has struck gold with this absolutely gorgeous remix. Stream it now below, get is as part of the DJ-Kicks album here, and catch it in the mix on Bump In The Hump tonight, live from 7-9 EDT on Radio Humber, or after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud here.

Pearl Jam - W.M.A. (Mr Myth's "That Four Tet Set" Edit)

Dublin radio presenter Mr Myth shared a treat over the weekend recreating an edit of Pearl Jam's "W.M.A.," from their sophomore album Vs. A track he heard in a few Four Tet sets, and one he believes to be made by Kieran Hebden himself, Mr Myth couldn't find said edit anywhere, so he set out to make it himself.

Not a far cry from the original, Myth's "That Four Tet Set" edit leans into the driving drums while pulling back on the grunge guitar. The result is an epic dance affair that thrives through its upped tempo, energetic and even more groovy drum delivery, as well as its now more streamline, less Eddie Vedder/Mike McCready direction. It's a clean and killer combination of Jeff Ament's bass and Dave Abbruzzese's drums, expertly orchestrated by Four Tet/Mr Myth. In fact, one could say this version cuts to the core or emerges from the essence of "W.M.A.," as it most prominently features its two composers: Abbruzzese and Ament.

As he's done with his other edits of Electric Light Orchestra, Eli Escobar and Mr. Fingers, Mr Myth has enabled the free download for his "That Four Tet Set" edit "W.M.A." Follow his socials below and enjoy!

Colyn - Merging Realities

This past Friday, Amsterdam's own Colyn returned to Afterlife for another immersive EP. His second four-tracker Patterns again plays perfectly on the Berlin-based label, staying true to their "odyssey through the realm of consciousness" ethos. My favourite of the four comes in the second a-side, as "Merging Realities" weaves its way between taught techno banger and subtle, melodic mover. It features the same potent percussion and moments of immense tension that Colyn displayed in his most recent original "The Future Is The Past." However "Merging Realities" never quite hits the same stride as the DGTL Records release. Instead one could say it doesn't stride at all, but rather it glides, buoyed by sublime synth swells and captivating keys. Like so many Afterlife releases, this can be equally enjoyed in a calming bath or on a massive system, surrounded by a mob of revelers. Set sail aboard the spiritual journey that is "Merging Realities" below and get the whole of the Patterns EP now here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Yedgar - I'll Fly With U

After a couple weeks without a new episode of Bump In The Hump, we're back tonight. At least kind of. Due to power issues associated with facilities maintenance, Bump In The Hump will not premiere on the Radio Humber airwaves tonight as it normally would but rather it will emerge Saturday at 9PM EDT, in line with my now weekly live tweet. That said I will still post the episode to Mixcloud (along with tracklist here) at our regular air time of 7PM tonight. But back to the contents of the show itself...

Again following the brief hiatus with the Best Of Lockdown episode, this week's Bump In The Hump had a mountain of new music to choose from. And boy did it make for a fire episode. There's a heap of hot house tracks, a bevy of brutal bangers, droves of DnB and even a touch of techno. Additionally there's a number of artist debuts, including one from EDMonton's Yedgar who takes on a turn-of-the-century classic from Gigi D'Agostino. Part of Canada's fulsome wave scene, Yedgar does fabulous work with "I'll Fly With You" leveraging its instantly memorable lead while pushing it into a smoke-filled empty club. And this couldn't be more perfect, as those "L'Amour Toujours" was always in the back of your head and this is the cobweb-covered, corrupted version that emerges when forced to recall its italo-dance excellence. Get Yedgar's take on the classic via Bandcamp here and catch it in the mix tonight.

Enlightened Listening for September 11

You know why you're here. All this week's new music that you need to hear compiled in the playlist known as Enlightened Listening. The playlist then turns towards house with sick stuff from Bruno Furlan, Valentino Khan and Bassani x Prayer Handz. The Bee Gees & Sérgio Mendes - Stayin' Alive (Ahmed Sirour's Rio Remix)

I can't quite remember when Ahmed Sirour first appeared on my radar, but it seems like every week for the last few months he's been showing up in my inbox with thoughtful messages about his newest releases, several of which I've supported here. Late last night the Brooklyn-based producer unleashed his latest creation (or Frankenstein's monster if you will) a percussion driven mix of The Bee Gees and Sérgio Mendes. In his rather lengthy description of this multi-faceted affair, Sirour (like the Bee Gees themselves) rejects the disco classification of "Stayin' Alive" by replacing its glitzy guitars with the indomitable drums of a live recording of Sérgio Mendes' "Magalenha." The resultant mix runs more true to the lyrical nature of "Stayin' Alive" and the desperate struggle the Gibbs brothers almost literally wail about. And, for my ear at least, this new dogged drum delivery works wonders in showcasing the unassailable human spirit that lives at the core of "Stayin' Alive." Renew your will to survive with the 'name your price' download of Ahmed Sirour's Rio remix here and be sure to follow his socials below.FOLLOW AHMED SIROUR: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Mat Zo - Colours (ft. Olan)

The build towards Mat Zo's October 9th Anjunabeats album drop continues as we get our third taste of Illusion Of Depth today. "Colours" once again sees Zo alongside Olan, but unlike the dark, driving alchemy of "Problems" today's offering delivers a divine razzle-dazzle that straddles the line between disco/funk and trance. Especially evident in the extended mix, "Colours" can boast a brilliant organic allure through its guitar and drum play. Drifting towards trance, the track gets progressively more dreamy and whimsical as Zo sprinkles in several pinches of fairy dust, causing "Colours" to float fabulously. The end result is an equally powerful and playful production that soars sublime, making its nearly seven minute runtime a resplendent revelry. Get the exultant, electrifying affair now here.

Four Unreleased Tracks I'm Still Waiting For...

As the summer has come and gone, four tracks have found themselves still at the front of my mind as I wait for their eventual release. In early July we got a taste of the power pairing of Tiga and Hudson Mohawke by way of their Hardcore Romance hit "Love Minus Zero." Along with that a mix for Annie Mac, which featured a few more of their collaborations "Time To Time" and "Tear Down The Walls." The former also appeared in Martyn Bootyspoon's mix for Crack Magazine, and I must say I can neither get enough of the track itself nor its placement in the mix. Find it below starting just before the hour twenty-nine mark and be sure to stick around as the subsequent synth-led tracks are equally sublime.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Best Of Lockdown

As we enter into September, a month often associated with new beginnings, we'll be looking back at the best tracks from the 21 'At Home' episodes of Bump In The Hump. While I'm calling tonight's episode the "Best Of Lockdown," that's more of a loose, catch-all as opposed to a hard and fast criterion. This does not mean that the tracks were released or even made during 'lockdown' (whatever that means), but rather that the tracks aired in episodes following the shutdown. Regardless, tonight's episode drops the all-new element and reminds us of the incredible creations we've encountered in this stressful, six month stretch of time.

Without giving the whole tracklist away, I've picked three tracks with telling titles to tease tonight's episode. First, "The Future Is The Past" is pretty on the nose as the future (tonight's episode) is indeed made up of (tracks from) the past. Second, our socials lives have taken a hit thanks to COVID-19, so again "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" rings as true as ever. Finally, and as important as ever, we need "Acceptance" as it is imperative that we understand and come to terms with this 'new reality' in order to make the best of it. And that's just it, the Best Of episode of Bump In The Hump premieres tonight at 7 PM EDT on Radio Humber and can be found after the fact as cataloged on Mixcloud here
