Enlightened Listening for November 6

We've made it through another week, and what a week it was, so let's celebrate with some new music.

This week's edition of Enlightened Listening opens with ATTLAS' second album of the year, an even more sublime offering than his usual ethereal excellence. It's not the only awesome album either as the ageless Kylie Minogue offers up an absolute delight in DISCO. Staying with longer releases, This Never Happened continues its unbelievable run of quality as Deeparture delivers an incredible EP, just as Overmono complete their inspired Everything U Need with two more top-notch tracks. Closing the book on EPs, HERO's CLUB NOWHERE is another stunner that, like CRY BABY and Dirty Work, will keep me coming back for weeks, if not months.

Now for the singles: Moullinex delivers sensuous pleasure in "Ven," Tiga turns Elderbrook's "Back To My Bed" into an infectious, uplifting roller, The Magician goes Italo disco on Mercer's uber-catchy "Lemonade," The Reflex brings "Sweet Freedom" closer to Michael McDonald's original, KUU deliver a chill second single, KAS:ST does dark and dismal with "VTOPIA," and we get the first taste of what promises to be a killer collaborative project from Frustra and Maddmon in "Eternal Wake."

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Leterna - Heartbeat

It has been over a year since we last heard from Leterna, but this Monday they returned with a bang. "Heartbeat," released as a copyright free, free download courtesy Bass Rebels, sees a return to the duo's roots in progressive house with a distinctly deadmau5/mau5trap vibe. It's got an incredible sheen with an equally intoxicating vocal opposed by a brilliant bass line. Joining Leterna on tonight's episode are two as of yet unreleased but forthcoming tracks, from two of my favourite rising house talents in Maddmon and, this week's guest on My Mixtape, MAP. As usual the episode ends with a clip of my conversation with the guests, this week it's two thirds of the Winnipeg trio of Mark Me Low, Ayge and PRZM, aka MAP. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Good Thng - Someone

Last week I promoted FUXWITHIT's Fourth Anniversary party, and just prior to going to Night Owl, some of the crew and I were hosted at a recording studio on Queen west. Turns out it was the home of brand new R&B duo Good Thng. Their debut EP Good Thing dropped two weeks ago today, and I'm happy to be able to bring the lead single "Someone" to Bump In The Hump tonight. Look out for these two, they're up to big things with true musical talent, including live vocals and organic instrumentation.It's shows like this where I really delve into everything electronic and dance. From the now standard disco opening, to the following funk, R&B, house, techno, future bass, DnB, trap and dubstep, Bump In The Hump is home to all things our Canadians are cooking up. Joining Good Thng, I've got seven other artists making their Radio Humber debuts, to go along with mainstays like Hanz Ford, Maddmon, Hatiras and Vincent Caira. There's also another long look at a busy weekend ahead as club season continues in full force. And after a relatively easy going past two weeks, we go off the deep end with a solid half hour of hard hitting dub. Five Fire February Finds

Last night was lit, partying with the FUXWITHIT fam to celebrate their fourth anniversary, and while I recover today I'm turning to a handful of tracks I discovered this first week or so of February. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: ASHE - Space Between (ft. Amy Kirkpatrick)

The wave of new music from Toronto and across the country continues to amaze me. This week I'm proud to bring both the first Radio Humber appearance, and first single from ASHE and his Whale Bones EP. "Space Between," featuring Amy Kirkpatrick, promises to be the first of many upcoming releases in this new progressive house turn for ASHE. It's powerful and emotive through the vocals and otherwise; truly exemplifying its title, opening up an immense rift. Careful not to fall its infinite abyss!Bump In The Hump this week is pure house heaven, I've found so much new music that there's more than enough for an hour entirely of made up of house. There's everything from big room, deep, progressive, to tech and other houses. No need for a contractor. Points of particular interest include: Loud Luxury fresh off playing Veld this weekend, both Snails and Botnek with new bangers, and friends of the show Maddmon, Leterna and OAKS. Oh and how about new Tiga? Perfect.

As Heard Canada Day Long Weekend

Of course this past weekend was a special celebration across the country, and while I did get out and about, I only made my way to one event: Tracking w/ Mikey Palermo, Maddmon and SL.Y at Dundas Video. The music from these three (and Riggadale, Kill Them With Colour, and Booshay, who also spun) made for an awesome party. My shazam was working overtime to try to pick up the titanic tracklist they dropped, and while there were a number that I missed, I compiled the rest in this playlist.

Note it starts with Maddmon, then proceeds through Mikey Palermo (who played with Booshay as Bout It), and ends with SL.Y and others in a massive B2B jam session. The last track "Addicted To My Ex" didn't appear at Dundas Video but on my iPod via shuffle and I felt like just I had to include it.

Ayo - Name Game

G-House really seems to be blowing up. I wrote about BIJOU's remix of Crash Land, earlier this week, and have supported some tremendous Toronto based talents (Marco Marz, Maddmon and others) here and on Radio Humber. It's even inspired trap producer Dropwizz to start a side project, Kavi Indatissa. The latest example of the G-House takeover to comes from Seattle deep bass head, Ayo.

"Name Game" is as deep as it is dirty. Your subwoofer will be slamming as the track stomps along at the trademark slow, almost plodding pace. While it's easy to be allured by the sheer bad-ass nature of the bass, it's the little punctuations and counter effects that make the difference between a poser and a powerhouse. And make no mistake Ayo and his "Name Game" are a force to be reckoned with. The bass design delivers a religious experience, an unholy one at that.
