Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Exclusion - Our City

When deciding what track to showcase in this sneak peek post each week there's many factors that I take into account, and Exclusion's "Our City" hits on multiple. 1) Exclusion is one of my favourite artists in the dubstep sphere. 2) it's an absolute banger, that is a great indication of how the episode is going to sound. 3) it's released on Emengy, a label that features prominently in my conversation with Elazion, this week's guest on My Mixtape. 4) it's available for free. Get it here and stream now below.While "Our City" stands as an exemplar of the explosive power of this episode, there are indeed tracks on either side, showcasing bass banging power along with a more restrained resonance. We start with nearly an hour of house, techno and club cuts, several of which look ahead to the weekend, while the second half of the episode turns exceedingly dark with dubstep, midtempo and experimental bass brilliance. And as mentioned above, we close the episode with a clip of my conversation with Elazion, who you can hear on My Mixtape this Saturday, May 18th at 11 PM EDT. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Subject 31 - Incoming EP

In my conversation with Allan Eggert aka Kryojen (listen here), we talked about the incredible quality of dubstep being created these days, and while neither of us would call dubstep our favourite genre, there's no denying the breadth of brilliant bass coming from Canada. Fittingly last week's episode of Bump In The Hump played host to perhaps my favourite run of dubstep tracks to date. Once again we've got top notch dubstep lined up for this week's episode, highlighted by a track from Subject 31's new five track Incoming EP, released this past Friday on Disciple Round Table. 15 Favourite Canadian Tracks of 2017 (1st Half)

Obviously today is Canada Day. And it's a big one. 150 years being the accepted metric. So I figured I better do something to celebrate the musical brilliance that our great (both in size and quality) country has. A mix? Too much work. An artist showcase? Too many to name. A Top 5? Too restrictive. A top 150? I probably could have. But let's just move the decimal place over one digit and call it a day. So without further ado here's my 15 favourite Canadian tracks released in the first half of 2017. Note the order was determined by when they aired on Bump In The Hump. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Somna - My Shelter (ft. Matthew Steeper)

While it seems the majority of electronic music coming out of Canada is darker, deeper and more bass oriented there's also some strong trance tracks from the likes of Soundprank, Yang and Somna. The latter, Benjamin Leung, has become a staple on Bump In The Hump, usually used to lead off each episode with his epic, joyous soundscapes. His latest of that variety, "My Shelter" a collab with vocalist Matthew Steeper, will once again launch the hour of new Canadian electronic music. In fact the second track in tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump, while not directly from Somna, is indeed inspired by the man himself. Because I follow him on twitter I received a DM offering a free download of fellow AVA artist Memory Loss and her track "Maybe Tomorrow." Of course I couldn't turn down that offer and proceeded to find out that Memory Loss is also Canadian. I don't know what it is about Vancouver that inspires so much great trance music, but I'm glad it's a thing.

Joining Somna and Memory Loss tonight, there's another new Dom Dias bootleg, a stunner from Vincent, some hard and heavy stuff from Black Tiger Sex Machine and Exclusion, and an aptly timed remix from Jacques Greene who is set to play Velvet Underground this Saturday (details here). Finally, since Friday is a holiday there will be no episode of My Mixtape, however it'll return next week. Catch tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump live on Radio Humber from 6-7 PM EDT, here.

Exclusion - Daily Routine

Exclusion, a primarily dubstep producer from Calgary, just dropped a track called "Daily Routine." However the three and half minute ride is anything but regular or usual. He paints the cyclic procedure as the opposite of a mundane repetition; it's progressive, full of childlike energy and allure. We could only hope that our days were as exciting as this track. "Daily Routine" feels like a beautiful euphoric video game; it's a shimmering infinite landscape that overflows with the feelings vitality and security. The piano and percussion combine to give it a liquid jazz feel, utterly in the pocket. I'm taken by not just its elegance, but the exquisite journey, full of life and humanity.
