Bump In The Hump: February 28 (Season 7, Episode 21)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Clarian - Television Days

Last week I teased a triple shot of Clarian with "Ankh" on Bump In The Hump: 1) his performance at One Loft Friday night, 2) his forthcoming collaborative EP with Tiga, Stay Cool, and 3) his debut album Television Days, out now on Balance Music. As no surprise, I'll be playing one of the cuts from the brilliant 10 track release tonight, but you can stream it now below. My only hint as to which track you'll hear on the Radio Humber airwaves tonight is that it fits in the flurry of funk I've been feeling lately.Along with Clarian's, dare I say throwback, album there's an epic remix of Cerrone's classic 1977 track "Supernature." That said the focus remains firmly on new music and as seems to be the case lately our Canadians are pumping out more mean bass and dubstep than anything else. So while there's a hearty helping of house, we get near an hour of dubstep, trap and wave, which leads into a clip of my conversation with Memphis, who is set to take over My Mixtape this Saturday night at 11. Catch Bump In The Hump live tonight from 7-9 PM EST here and after the fact via Mixcloud here.

Point Point Live at AccorHotels Arena

I've gushed about Parisian supergroup and Record Record founders Point Point a number of times, both here and on FUXWITHIT, but I'm not sure I've been as in love with them as I am today with the release of their sublime live set from this past weekend. Recorded at AccorHotels Arena in the French capital; Aazar, LH4L, Devoted To God, and Nömak have illustrated exactly what it is I love about them. I knew that their unique brand of 'future bass' spoke to me, whether it be as individuals, as Point Point or in their releases on Record Record, but I see now why it does with this mix. It hits on so many classics and staples of the club, trap, jersey club, hip hop, and even funk scenes. The hour long set really has some of everything: it goes hard, it gets emotional, it features a number of their own tunes and so many of the tracks and artists that they draw inspiration from. Let me now do a quick run-through, below.

The epic arc opens up with sweet strings, easing our ears in slowly before the bright, bleepy vibes burst over the skyline like the first beams of morning light. The energizing opening is the first of dozens of flawless transitions, this one in particular plays into San Holo's "We Rise." Then as if writing this piece for me, the cinematic arc becomes blatantly clear as we get the now classic "Cinema Slasherr" edit from Benzi & Elephante. Following that we get the first of multiple Kanye cuts, this one coming as their own remix of "Power." The flurry of nostalgia stays steady with Sam Smith's vocals from "Latch" leading into the lap of power that is Freekill's remix of Aazar's "Gyal." Minutes later we're treated to the classic Run DMC/Bob James sample, which then transitions into an ungodly edit of KC & The Sunshine Band's "That's The Way (I Like It)," before slipping into Chicago's "Street Player" and then MERCER's "Satisfy." Just writing this has me hyperventilating. Someone get me a paper bag! This is too good.

The first third of the mix concludes some classic grooves from Armand Van Helden before giving way to the gritty genius that is Pyramid's remix of "Utopia." And then here comes your answer as to whether the mix could get better, and astonishingly the answer is yes, as in comes The King with "Beat It." I wish I could line this article with GIFs and emojis to better illustrate just what Point Point is making my face do. This is just crazy and quite simply one of the best mixes I've ever heard. It is incredibly enjoyable and while it leaves me wanting more, it keeps feeding me like Homer Simpson being fed donuts on a continuous loop. And if you thought I was done with the insane play-by-play, how about this transition from the Spice Girls aided "Oooops" of Drippy Dolphin into SOPHIE's "MSMSMSM" and then Carmada's remix of "Right Here, Right Now."

As we round into the second half of the mix we get more of Point Point's own productions including "All This" and "Korean BBQ," before a flurry of San Holo, Galantis and Jack Ü. These classics are then followed by a bit of a new music jam session, that neither I nor Shazam are able to identify. We're then beckoned towards the finale with a foursome of Point Point tracks "Life In Grey," "Serious Mood," "Part Of The Game," and "Hands." The grand finale comes in the form of a whistle aided live version of M83's "Midnight City." You're likely left both a shadow of your former self and a more fulfilled, actualized version. I for one know I'll be coming back to this mix many times in the coming days and months, and am grateful to be able to download it absolutely free. Do so here, and follow Point Point below.FOLLOW POINT POINT: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back (Birthdayy Partyy Remix)

Three weeks ago, in honour of his Superbowl halftime performance, I made a list of my five favourite remixes of Justin Timberlake, and surprisingly my favourite original JT track was not represented. Of course I'm talking about "Sexy Back." For me and I think many others, it was the track that made JT cool, leading out FutureSex/LoveSounds which I've said previously, still stands up as one of the best albums of the aughts (2000-2009). Taking on the immediately identifiable and deliciously dance-worthy original is a tough task, and while the likes of Tom Novy and Armand Van Helden have already done so, I believe Birthdayy Partyy has proven themselves to be up to snuff.

This mix breaks from the above offerings that find themselves more tuned to the club sound of yesteryear, as this bass house revision fits perfectly in the 2018 sphere. Similarly, Birthdayy Partyy have kept the more of the flow and direction of the original. Its 4:45 runtime, while longer than the original, simply allows for an extended tempestuous twist. And this is exactly the thread that runs through this mix. Seemingly each and every element is turnt and tortured in a kind of S&M manner. The vocals, the drums and, most effectively, the bass synths are scarred and stricken with a malice that makes the diabolical drops deliver an indignant amount of mayhem. It could survive as a mere instrumental but the noxious nostalgia of the lyrics have you holding on harder and leave you more mindblown when the distorted drop deforms your face. Pick up this potent club pulverizer free, here.FOLLOW BIRTHDAYY PARTYY: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

DUCAT - Sky High 空高く

Last week Dutch future funk aficionado DUCAT polled his Twitter followers asking whether his next release should be the aforementioned future funk or vaportrap. It seems he had both ready to go, as little more than 24 hours later he had uploaded "Sky High 空高く." For those familiar with DUCAT (perhaps when I wrote about his "Time"), this track again nails his chilled out groove and spectacularly smooth sound design. It stays true to the vaportrap temperament, easing into your ears, laying you back onto a bed of billowy clouds. The "Sky High 空高く" sentiment continues to shine through with the soaring and sunny disposition of the jazzy guitar feels. And while those strings take the lead, the groove of the bass and tickling trap percussion play perfectly together, especially as supported by the cool synth chords. The whole track just oozes ease and warmth, and while it's not available for download yet, you can find it as part of his forthcoming vaportrap album. Enjoy the Sunday vibes below!FOLLOW DUCAT: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Sicle Cell - Rhapazooty In Blue (Pied Piper DELITE Regroove)

Normally I try to limit myself to tackling new music on this blog, except for the obvious Throwback Thursday posts, and while I missed a ton of new music yesterday I just couldn't let this Pied Piper remix go. This take on Sicle Cell's "Rhapazooty In Blue" is literally epic in its 14 minutes of extended dance delivery and just as epically engorged in groove. It won't take long to pick up the Dee-Lite's never ending groovy bassline that helps to propel the storytelling a la the 14 minute version of The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." Of course it's highlighted all the way through with horns and piano licks, but it really is the bassline that just keeps your heart pumping the blood to your feet so you keep grooving and grooving and grooving, like a disco Energizer Bunny. Find it as part of the massive 30 track package of mixes from the Pied Piper, Count Funkula, the Mean Fiddler and more, Phat Disko.FOLLOW PIED PIPER: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Alex Metric & Ten Ven - Otic

Apparently I missed the boat on this Alex MetricTen Ven collab "Otic," which has been building steam over the last month or so. But when I finally heard it last week in the midst of a slew of strong tracks on Pete Tong's show last Friday I was astounded. The sheer magnitude and sublime simplicity of "Otic" is unassailable. It is quite possibly one of the single greatest pieces of pure house music I've ever heard. And I think that's really the key, it feels and sounds pure; clearly conjuring up the notion of an instant classic. It has a soaring strength while remaining faithfully fixed to the floor; you are simultaneously spellbound to reach for the sky and guided by its groove, sending your hips and feet swaying and strutting. And fittingly to its title, "Otic" is of course pleasing to the ear. Each and every element not only satisfies, it soothes, stimulates and in the case of the low end, quite literally stirs.

Rarely do I get this excited for a track, or find it this easy to write about (more like gush about), but here we are; it's Alex Metric, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. I don't mean to leave Ten Ven out, and it seems it may be released on his label, When I Met You. And I say seems here, because while the image above has been circulated by both artists, the rest of the internet seems to say it will be released on Anjunadeep, as noted on the tracklist for Pete Tong and in the Soundcloud comments. Whatever the case, Alex said it is due out March 1st, so we can look forward to that next week. Until then enjoy the full stream below and be sure to follow both Alex and Ten Ven with their socials below.

UPDATE: Alex has confirmed March 2nd as the release date, indeed via Anjunadeep, see here.FOLLOW ALEX METRIC: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Bump In The Hump: February 21 (Season 7, Episode 20)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: CFCF - Cell Site In Somerset

A couple weeks back we had the title track of CFCF's Self Service EP, and with its full release this past weekend I'm excited to open Bump In The Hump with its epic A-side "Cell Site In Somerset." Once again we're treated to CFCF's enigmatic and exceptional production style, one that earned him a Grammy nomination for his remix of "Berlin By Overnight." In this EP, and track more specifically, we get a taste of his delightfully diverse sounds ranging from stringed orchestral elements to stinging acid whips. And while you may think these two couldn't be more polar opposites, it is CFCF's genius that seamlessly sews them together. Its grandeur reminds me of Pete Tong and Jules Buckley's Ibiza Classics/Classic House albums which too curry the cachet of an orchestra with the unvarnished vivacity of electronic dance music. Stream "Cell Site In Somerset" and purchase the EP via Bandcamp below. After this epic opening number, Bump In The Hump continues with more of the best in new Canadian dance and electronic including funky cuts from Robotaki and Verzache, as well as the seemingly weekly dose of disco delights from Spacedisco Records. Another Canadian label also comes up big with BETON's "Directions" on Turbo Recordings, which kicks off the decidedly darker second hour of the show. There's some banging bass house and more DnB, including man of the moment Rene LaVice. Finally the fire finale sees the likes of Feed Me's "Blood Red" getting a reboot before Black Tiger Sex Machine tears the place down. All this and more live from 7-9 PM EST on Radio Humber or via Mixcloud after the fact.

Four Fire Mixes

While I tend to spend most of my time digging through individual tracks, this past weekend afforded me the time enjoy some more mountainous mixes. So I've decided to share four of my favourites, two downright banger for banger blitzkriegs and two more tempered groove and dance oriented odysseys. Find them below in order of length from shortest to longest, with brief description attached.

An obvious contrast to Benzi's Girl Trapz series. All bangers all the time, plus the usual onslaught of edits and exclusives. Reworked from the original Diplo & Friends broadcast for even more fire. Free download and full tracklist provided.

Another epic mix of electro bangers, this time courtesy dope dudes 8-Bit Tits. Includes forthcoming fire from themselves and an electrifying list of the best belters from the last year plus. Also up for free download, with tracklist available upon request.

Turbo's top man Tiga takes us for a ride with his first set of the year. Live from Melbourne's Piknic Electronik, this two hour extravaganza runs through some of his classic like "Bugatti" and "Mind Dimension" as well as a handful of new cuts, including the forthcoming Tiga/Kölsch collab.

Almost at throwback level, considering it looks back at 2017's "choice edits and reworks," many of which take on disco classics. This is the sixth year in a row Greg Wilson had made such a list and I don't think I'm wrong to say that, with disco seemingly on the upswing, it's the best 20 yet. Also includes a blog post from the man himself delving further into the year that was.

Silva - Escape

I've certainly said it before, but something special always seems to be coming from the otherside of the planet. The latest in a long line of Aussies to catch my attention is Harrison Bailie, aka Silva of Perth.

Today's release "Escape" takes me back a handful of years ago when I was first coming across this crazy blend of trap, jersey club and future bass from the likes of Slumberjack, Sable, and Daktyl among others. How ever you want to classify it, and I'm not sure how to do so with "Escape," there's no denying it is incredibly captivating and engaging. The futuristic atmosphere explodes with percussion and all kinds of effects amidst an eerie, almost tribal image. And then there's the drops which are nothing short of nasty; they'll leave your face all twisted up and and your body crippled and contorted as though you've been possessed. This is a wicked weapon and the true definition of turnt. Download for free via Hiva here.

Just Keep Dancing

It's Sunday but it's also a long weekend in most places, which means you may be tired, but you may also be headed out again tonight. With that in mind I've put together a list of extended dance type tracks, old and new; just some of my favourites these days.

Again I've turned to Spotify as most of these tracks are not on Soundcloud, but unlike my new music playlists I've put these in a 'cohesive' listening order. It starts with more throwback disco/dance grooves, with legends like The Cure, Barry White and a repacked version of The Stooges. Then we get two of the hottest dance tracks of the moment with Peggy Gou and Offaiah, before hitting the finale of Snarky Puppy. That track, "Lingus" is by far and away my most played track in the last few months and I still can't get enough of it. It is the oddball in this list but I just needed to share it, and this felt like the right time to sneak it in. Hope this makes your Sunday and weekend more enjoyable. Cheers!

Sinden's House Line Vol. 1

Sinden has had a hot start to 2018, already offering up a remix of Benson, a collab with Hotfire on Night Bass, and now the follow up to his 9 track House Line EP. Like its forefather on Insomniac Records it features fresh house cuts from him and other illustrious artists of said sound: Dillon Nathaniel, BIJOU, and Astronomar. Also like the previous output, it's incredibly difficult to declare a single standout as each track bumps brilliantly. But let's start at the top, shall we?

First comes Sinden's collab with BIJOU which builds not just in its noxious and nefarious g-house groove, but in the EP's technical quality as a whole. It is an exemplar for any house producer, young or old, experienced or not, as how to properly execute an effective house track. Once the floor has been filled by "Technique," Astronomar comes in with a captivating chronicle that could only properly be offered up in this house format. It keeps you cutting shapes while its story compels. And now that "No Pets" has you you sufficiently sedated on the floor, in comes Dillon Nathaniel with a world class weapon. "Riot" is certainly the bulkiest beat of the three, offering up a serious stomper with a gripping groove. It is six minutes of smart, spellbinding seduction that when finally let loose could easily cause a kerfuffle on the dance-floor. As Astronomar's output is not yet on Soundcloud stream via Spotify below.Pick up the EP from your favourite retailer here and follow the artists below.

Enlightened Listening for February 16

The last few Fridays I've been compiling playlists of new music for the weekend, so today I've decided to give it a name and make it a routine. I present the first proper edition of Enlightened Listening. The name is a simple tie to the blog itself, which features all dance and electronic genres under the sun, as does this list and the others ahead of its naming today. I should also state that while I use the term enlightened, I'm not suggesting that each of these are the pinnacle of production but rather some creative cultivations on the endless road to musical enlightenment. So once again here we go, find the tracks in no particular order, note the free downloads marked by asterisk and reviews at the bottom.

ATLiens - Interstellar (ft. Sara Skinner)
Fantastic mix of fearsome fire in the incredibly twisted trap drops countering Skinner's savory vocals.

Madeaux - The Wave (ft. BRUX)
Another captivating creation from Madeaux that fits its title to a tee. I can't quite put my finger on what this reminds me of most, but certainly the likes of Jack Beats, Mr. Oizo, Boys Noize and others.

NuKid - Hustlin'*
The more I hear from NuKid the more convinced I am that he sits atop the crowded crossroads of deep, g-, and bass house. The combination of grit, drive, and bounce of this track is mindblowing.

AOTA - D Sides*
Five classics (or soon to be classics) twisted to fit AOTA's particular brand of deep house. Likely your eyes are drawn to "Satisfaction" or "Bodak Yellow" and while they all deliver a good groove get your feet going, I'm most struck by the Borgore remix, which like the original goes ridiculously hard.

BETON - Directions (ft. Wevie Stonder)
My most anticipated track of the year. I've gushed about it following Tiga's New Names Mix and again when the B-Side was released (here). Crank it to up 11 and shake the whole house. MASSIVE!

Robotaki - Limbo (ft. SHOR)
Seems like every new production from Robotaki raises the bar further and further. It's the perfect mix of T.E.E.D., SBKTRKT, Chet Faker and future bass when it was fresh coming out of Australia. Beyond beautiful, fantastically funky, smooth and sublime. Oh my days, might just have a little cry.

Max Olsen - Sub Zero (ft. JC)*
Expect to be moved by this one. Deep bass bonks and sweeping grooves. And how about those lyrics?

SAKIMA - Death Is In The Air
Maybe it's just the album art but I can't get The Cure out of my head. There may be nothing I enjoy more than dark lyrics with bright uplifting grooves. This is gives new meaning to scary good.

Minnesota - Hilow (Charlesthefirst Remix)*
Serious get down with these drops. This is atmospheric bass brilliance with all kinds of crazy elements.

German Santana - Doinks

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think I've seen a track sampling Young King Dave's viral video "Big doinks in Amish." Of course there's been dozens of parodies and memes, but I'm talking about a proper track with a simple callback to the hilarious delivery of YKD's now infamous line. Fittingly it was Blaze It Records that came through with the dope, and straight from the source at that, as it's cartel leader German Santana that brought the beats. Musically "Doinks" is a raw and simple roll; a trap beat that does the trick primarily through thunderous bass and plucks that almost sound like the track's onomatopoeic title. Then of course there's the sample that leads into the bleepy drops, and most importantly the meme isn't the key to the success of the track, it simply amplifies it. All in all "Doinks" isn't a groundbreaking, must have track, but it would certainly work in a set with additional allure from the comical callback. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Good Thng - Someone

Last week I promoted FUXWITHIT's Fourth Anniversary party, and just prior to going to Night Owl, some of the crew and I were hosted at a recording studio on Queen west. Turns out it was the home of brand new R&B duo Good Thng. Their debut EP Good Thing dropped two weeks ago today, and I'm happy to be able to bring the lead single "Someone" to Bump In The Hump tonight. Look out for these two, they're up to big things with true musical talent, including live vocals and organic instrumentation. It's shows like this where I really delve into everything electronic and dance. From the now standard disco opening, to the following funk, R&B, house, techno, future bass, DnB, trap and dubstep, Bump In The Hump is home to all things our Canadians are cooking up. Joining Good Thng, I've got seven other artists making their Radio Humber debuts, to go along with mainstays like Hanz Ford, Maddmon, Hatiras and Vincent Caira. There's also another long look at a busy weekend ahead as club season continues in full force. And after a relatively easy going past two weeks, we go off the deep end with a solid half hour of hard hitting dub. Don't miss Bump In The Hump live tonight from 7-9 PM EST here or streamed after the fact via Mixcloud here.

SYNC - Clash (w/ Onur Ormen)

A cross continental collab called "Clash" sees Turkish producer Onur Ormen offer up his abilities to stateside producer SYNC. They combine for a creepy cinematic trap piece, bolstered by brassy bursts, sprinkles of starry synth sparkles, and all kinds of unease through smart sound effects. The bass and drums lay the dark and doom-filled groundwork, displaying a desolate landscape about to be further destroyed by the immanent battle of hellish heavyweights. On top of this, the top-line teases more spine-tingling terror, which comes to a head in the drops. And this is where "Clash" really separates itself from the pack; SYNC and Onur have worked their magic into this track through incredibly effective samples that turn the mood up to a ten. The little yelps, squeals, screeches, and the pièce de résistance, the door bell (at 1:47) all combine to up the intensity and atmosphere making "Clash" undeniable quality. android52 - GO!

This morning I saw ASHE tweet "No inspiration Sundays" and I was feeling that big time as I scrolled through Soundcloud looking for something to grab my attention. And it was not looking good for quite a while, there's just so much of the same old, same old. That was until I found a little something for my soul. It may not be for everyone, and may be cast aside as video game music, but it's funky good fun, and indeed a solid piece of production. From German anime groove artist android52, "GO!" is just the playful piece to pique my attention and get me going on this lackluster Sunday. Of course it's bright and bouncy with its bleeps and bloops, but its got a good amount of musical magic. The drums and bass alone are a brilliant backbone and would let any lead line excite, but the way they combine in "GO!" is just downright gorgeous. It, like so much of android52's catalog, is perfect for putting on in the background while you rip through your favourite video game. Find it as part of the forthcoming Anime Wav Grooves Vol. 2, via Bandcamp here. Stay in touch with the socials below and stream away!FOLLOW ANDROID52: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Danny L Harle - Blue Angel (ft. Clairo)

Want to make your heart feel good while crying at the same time? Well look no further than today's release from Danny L Harle. Featuring the vocals of Clairo, "Blue Angel" will make you love the snow that's falling around you or have you hopping on a plane to join us in this white power wonderland.

I've written at length about my love for Danny L Harle (see here), and yet again I'm absolutely agape at his piquing production quality which always seems to ambush your emotions. There is no escaping his Pop Music prowess; his chord choices and their designs are delightfully domineering, each produced with tremendous tact and the coolest confidence. But musical mastery aside, his productions always seem to elevate the vocal performance. In this case, Clairo comes in as cool and biting as a winter breeze. She is as once airy and ethereal yet capable and compelling. The layering and interplay from the long notes and vocal chops play perfectly with both the tempered and energetic elements. The whole track is a testament to not just Danny L Harle's abilities, but the magical quality of music itself; it flows fantastically, filling you with a flurry of emotions, acting as a kind of audio Rorschach test.

warner case - upsidown

Perhaps you recall late September of last year when I came across a beautiful, bright and bouncy track from jay xero, "doyouwannabemine?" In case you don't, listen and read here. Today the artist behind that brilliance has changed his name, while offering up another equally alluring track in "upsidown." It treats us to a more truthful and telling lyrical representation, in stark opposition to the cheeky yet clever preceding single. And this is likely no coincidence as the press release states the new name, warner case, marks a more authentic turn; explaining "it feels right...it's in my family...it's in my blood." Certainly the house grooves lay at the heart of his productions and seem not just innate, but also utterly infectious. Just like I said about "doyouwannabemine?," I'm warmed to the comparison of The 2 Bears, and see this as a time when these kind of delightful, deep, dancey tracks are as in demand as ever. Not only does "upsidown" deliver vocals that invite inclusion, but musically it offers a bed built for bouncing. The shuffling drums, bent bass synths, and smooth swinging progression all play perfectly together. Again, I'm awestruck with warner's output and will certainly turn to this track when I need a pick me up. Pick it up for yourself via iTunes here.

*asterisk denotes Juno nominees for Dance Recording of the Year

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Juno Nominees

Yesterday the Junos announced their list of nominees (here) and while there's some names we're familiar with on Bump In The Hump, there's a number of unknown surprises. In fact in the category above, Dance Recording of the Year, none of the tracks have appeared on any iteration of Bump In The Hump. So today I remedy that by bringing each to the airwaves, breaking up the two hours with a showcase in the middle. Of course the Junos also announced the Electronic Album of the Year, three of which have been heavily supported here. Check them out below (linked for your listening pleasure).

Juno nominations aside, tonight's episode will still bring the best new music from across the country, including a crazy combination of the fire finale/weekend warmup looking ahead to Benny Benassi, Chuckie, and Wax Motif all playing Saturday night. There's also a long list of artist debuts to go with an onslaught of the old guard. Trance, disco, house, future bass, trap; we've got it all. Catch Bump In The Hump live from 7-9 PM EST on Radio Humber and after the fact via Mixcloud, here.

BETON - Keep Breathin (ft. DJ Deeon)

I'm not much for hype, and I have a hard time keeping it up, but in the case of BETON's track "Directions" I've been coming back to Tiga's New Names Mix for Pete Tong for weeks now. Not only is "Directions" a crazy cool track, the mix itself exemplifies the genius of Tiga's tastemaking abilities. Now as we wait (impatiently on my part) for the 16th of February to roll around, we get a taste of the b-side of BETON's Twin Turbo debut.

"Keep Breathin" featuring DJ Deeon again offers a driving techno tune that feels like a race car revving up. As each layer is added the energy and speed of the vehicle jumps another gear. Further, the vocal sample reminds us to "Keep Breathin" as the acceleration and anticipation of the track becomes more than we can bear. As I've said before with techno tracks, that's the key; you've got to come as close to redlining or overdosing before pulling back, and this track does that perfectly. Even the way the synths are designed exudes a propellant energy, further combining with the bass bonks and percussive clanks to illustrate a roaring drive.

The flawless movements or gear shifts, if you will, allow "Keep Breathin" and BETON to cruise competently through our rear-view mirrors and right off into the horizon. This EP certainly confirms BETON as one to watch in 2018. Stream below and pre-order from your preferred outlet here.FOLLOW BETON: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

SCRIPT & onumi - Kibō

The artist collective that is six impala (KaTT, underscores, SCRIPT, shivan, TSUKII and OMNI) have been steadily blowing up since their first label release: the 13 minute epic Death Grips medley. Their tracks are about as unique as they come, conjuring up the strangest of soundscapes, rife with unimaginable grit, killer bass, and all kinds of technological terror. I've long lamented the title future bass (and I'm not saying that six impala use it), but in my ears this is what future bass actually should be ascribed to. Even with my subwoofer turned down the abundance of bass in their tracks is undeniable, as is their gift for gritty, boundary pushing productions, which brings me to the latest release on the label. The outside influence of onumi is combined with co-founder SCRIPT to create "Kibō," a track unlike anything you've ever heard.

It starts off sweet and smooth, before being flipped into a rapid-fire flamethrower. Yet it's never just one or the other. The combination of these two opposing energy centers underscores the ingenious nature of the track. While at first warping wickedly, the ease and beauty established early on slowly sneaks back in before taking over with a blissful piano breather. Of course the final flourish finds the fire again, if only briefly before the explosion of effects ushers in the track's destruction.

I must be nearing a dozen plays as I write this, and yet it's still so stunning. The interplay of effects, the potent progression, and delirium inducing sound design - all work to perfection. Whether you hear "Kibō" on a big system or little earbuds, there's no questioning its impact. Download it for free via ToneDen here, get it from your favourite outlet here, and be sure to follow six impala below.FOLLOW SIX IMPALA: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
