Enlightened Listening for July 19

Once again I'm overwhelmed by the amount of music this Friday (and the rest of the week) brought. So, just as with last week's Enlightened Listening I've got to keep it short and simply draw focus to a few of the 16 releases showcased in the playlist below. Early on there's a couple cool orchestral and orchestral-adjacent cuts, each incredibly well produced. Later on we get Baltra's brilliant and massive album Ted which I believe would play perfectly as you cruise the streets at night. Directly following that we get funky with Sparkee and Tuxedo, the former being absolutely fantastic through all four parts. "The Kids" has already become an anthem of mine this summer, and I totally foresee "Want Your Love" doing the same. After those two funk fiestas come three jaw droppers. "Heaven" is instantly one of my favourite tracks of the year, and why not, its got everything. The same goes for "No Price" which can boast Chromeo and Dr Packer on a single track. Rounding out that trio, Madeaux comes through with perhaps my favourite production of his in "I Want You." Once again he absolutely slays the sub-bass, sending shivers down my spine. After that is an unadulterated foursome of fire progressing from the power of Dillon Nathaniel through to X&G's electrifying design. All that and more below.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Jordan Astra - All Blessings (Mikey Palermo Remix)

On a tear behind the decks recently, playing Destructo's Friendship, opening for Dillon Nathaniel last weekend and set to open for Walker & Royce this weekend, Mikey Palermo is absolutely on fire. However his talents reach further than the wheels of steel, as I can say for certain the man has big stuff cooking on the production side for 2019. Our first example of this coming in his take on Toronto/Melbourne artist Jordan Astra. "All Blessings" sees Mikey in his wheelhouse, adding funky tech grooves to the catchy hip hop flow. Just like his genius "XO TOUR Llif3" bootleg from December of 2017, this is Mikey at his best. Sinden's House Line Vol. 1

Sinden has had a hot start to 2018, already offering up a remix of Benson, a collab with Hotfire on Night Bass, and now the follow up to his 9 track House Line EP. Like its forefather on Insomniac Records it features fresh house cuts from him and other illustrious artists of said sound: Dillon Nathaniel, BIJOU, and Astronomar. Also like the previous output, it's incredibly difficult to declare a single standout as each track bumps brilliantly. But let's start at the top, shall we?

First comes Sinden's collab with BIJOU which builds not just in its noxious and nefarious g-house groove, but in the EP's technical quality as a whole. It is an exemplar for any house producer, young or old, experienced or not, as how to properly execute an effective house track. Once the floor has been filled by "Technique," Astronomar comes in with a captivating chronicle that could only properly be offered up in this house format. It keeps you cutting shapes while its story compels. And now that "No Pets" has you you sufficiently sedated on the floor, in comes Dillon Nathaniel with a world class weapon. "Riot" is certainly the bulkiest beat of the three, offering up a serious stomper with a gripping groove. It is six minutes of smart, spellbinding seduction that when finally let loose could easily cause a kerfuffle on the dance-floor.
