John Summit - Dimension

Just shy of the two year anniversary of the inception of Sinden's Houseline, Chicago-based producer John Summit just released the two track Dimension EP. Sharing not just a part of its title but some of the same sonic DNA as Tiga's "Mind Dimension," the title track is indeed a look into some distant future or alternate reality. Its power is undeniable as the acid tinged and warped synths pulsate with supernova like strength. It is utterly intoxicating as its interstellar atmosphere leaves you both breathless and wobbly, in spite of its reliable house foundation. Enlightened Listening for March 15

Right to the point with this week's Enlightened Listening. No descriptions below just a straight shot of more melodic stuff to start moving towards twisted trap at the end. A big beautiful album from Karma Fields kicks things off, CRi and Ben Böhmer's EPs follow, slick singles from Basti Grub, Pete Tong and Carl Cox then round out the techno section. Dr. Fresch and Sinden then link up for a couple killer bass house tracks, and the energy only rises from there with High Contrast taking on Stevie Nicks "Edge Of Seventeen." The final seven selections then bring the bass with a couple top notch trap EPs, but special attention must be paid to Riton's remix of The Chemical Brothers. The more I hear from them, originals and remixes alike, the more baited my breath becomes in waiting for No Geography.

Enlightened Listening for November 23

Whether it's with unexpected gems in the return of Grandtheft or anticipated releases like that of Culprate's Others, Fridays never disappoint. Today's Enlightened Listening includes an epic orchestral tribute to the first 15 years of legendary label Ed Banger, the second single from Haywyre in as many weeks, an A-Trak remix on Defected, Boy 8-Bit on RKS, a brilliant Night Bass package, what seems like Booka Shade's dozenth quality release of the year and another ingenious EP from Djedjotronic.

Sinden's House Line Vol. 1

Sinden has had a hot start to 2018, already offering up a remix of Benson, a collab with Hotfire on Night Bass, and now the follow up to his 9 track House Line EP. Like its forefather on Insomniac Records it features fresh house cuts from him and other illustrious artists of said sound: Dillon Nathaniel, BIJOU, and Astronomar. Also like the previous output, it's incredibly difficult to declare a single standout as each track bumps brilliantly. But let's start at the top, shall we?

First comes Sinden's collab with BIJOU which builds not just in its noxious and nefarious g-house groove, but in the EP's technical quality as a whole. It is an exemplar for any house producer, young or old, experienced or not, as how to properly execute an effective house track. Once the floor has been filled by "Technique," Astronomar comes in with a captivating chronicle that could only properly be offered up in this house format. It keeps you cutting shapes while its story compels. And now that "No Pets" has you you sufficiently sedated on the floor, in comes Dillon Nathaniel with a world class weapon. "Riot" is certainly the bulkiest beat of the three, offering up a serious stomper with a gripping groove. It is six minutes of smart, spellbinding seduction that when finally let loose could easily cause a kerfuffle on the dance-floor. Sinden's House Line EP

Very few producers can boast the same kind of quality and longevity as Graeme Sinden. He's been a staple of the house scene since collaborating with the likes of Hervé (as The Count and Sinden) and SBTRKT nearly a decade ago. He's once again teamed up with Hervé, among other heavy hitters Bot (previously half of Crookers), Japan's Jaxx Da Fishworks and Alaska's Astronomar. The nine track collab laden EP, out now on Insomniac Records, brings bassy house tracks that, while having killer classic feels, succeeds in pushing the undeniably important genre forward. Download the EP free via ToneDen, here.The lead track brings Sinden and Hervé together again, showing off their incredible interplay. The amount of movement and instrumentation is incredible, once again proving these two work together wonderfully. Next, pay special attention to Sinden's solo track "Baby" with its classic bonking bass sound built around a grungy atmosphere. The next three tracks, all remixes, take a decisively different approach, but still one that fits into this formidable EP.

R3LL's remix relies on a piano lick and pulsating jersey club loops, definitely the most intense and energetic of the bunch. Bot brings back the bouncing bass with "Follow Me." The bed he's crafted for Aly Us' vocals makes it absolutely alluring and almost hypnotizing. It's easy to imagine several shufflers dancing all night to this one.

Next up is LO'99, who I've been a fan of ever since I heard Porter Robinson play Go Freek's remix of "My Mind" in his Monstercat Showcase set two summers ago. He's been on fire as of late (dropping remixes of Angelz and Stormzy), and continues that trend with his 420 Blog It take on "Mega." Obviously the throwback feels are strong, but the deep bass wobbles and alien atmosphere make it a worthy remix of such a classic track.

Following those remixes come three new collaborations. First "Cold Ass Flute" with Astronomar. It's eerie as can be, sending chills down your back, again with an extraterrestrial vibe and an all too evil laugh. Next is Hotfire and "Twiddle," which winds up slowly before the tension becomes too much and it turns into an all out stomper, suggesting that listeners just get stupid. The final collab comes with Marc Spence, whose "Nasty" has been mentioned many a time on this blog. "WTF" is mechanized madness. It's almost as though the two have built an Iron Giant type figure deep in the woods, and its coming to life can be heard through the panicked chirping of birds and earth shaking bass.

Sinden's House Line then wraps up with a new Jaxx Da Fishworks production, "Don't Wait Up." It may be the best track to encapsulate the EP as a whole. It's got a great classic feel and construction to it, while still feeling fresh. The frenzied drop is like a steely stare down, daring you to dance. From Sinden and Hervé's "Body & Soul" to this fire finale, this EP is an excellent example of Sinden's impact on house music. AC Slater, RYME & Cosella, Night Bass At The Hoxton

Last night, The Hoxton played host to a crazy party combining the forces of two bass heavy labels, BADLQQK and Night Bass. Cosella, part of the BADLQQK collective, took over the decks just as I arrived shortly after 11. Being the crafty local talent that he is, he started his set off with a cheeky remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling" with a female singer rather than the six god. But that wasn't the only remix of a local pop star. He also dropped his own edit of Chris Lake's bootleg mix of The Weeknd, "Can't Feel My Face." I'm with RYME on this one, really hope he uploads it, unfortunately Chris Lake hasn't even uploaded his version so it's doubtful, but we can still hope.

Cosella did an incredible job filling up the dance-floor and getting the crowd active. He played just the right mixture of old and new tracks, constantly working them over with filters and other knobs. I specifically remember him playing the Tom Staar remix of Dansson & Marlon Hoffstadt "Shake That," and his release on BADLQQK, "Elevator," which got people so hyped a fight broke out. However, the standout track for me, was a forthcoming one from Eyes Everywhere, that I'll be watching out for.
