Enlightened Listening for October 16

Happy Friday everyone! We've got a fabulous set of new releases for this week's Enlightened Listening. It features two full-length projects we've been building towards in the lush L.A. LP from Tensnake and CRi's captivating Anjunadeep offering Juvenile. There's also a number of personal favourites (TSHA, Eli Escobar, LeBaron James and Kardano), headlined by the triumphant return of Stephen Walking (who goes disco). Another unlikely disco turn comes from Matroda, while that genre gets another dose of new Duck Sauce. Other big names include Four Tet, BRONSON, No Mana and Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, who are gearing up for a new album which is set to drop on November 20th. Finally, we get fierce in the final two releases as Somna & LTN turn up the heat before Barbosa's overwrought techno in EMERCIVE debut (ra). Find each of the releases linked below the playlist and have a great weekend!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Stephen Walking - Glide

The one and only Stephen Walking is back with a brand new production, his first solo original release in over a year. "Glide" sees a return to his enigmatic, spacefunk/dadrock sound best noted in the 364 day run from "Dads In Space" through to "It Came From Planet Earth." That said "Glide" blasts into the abyss in a slightly different fashion, this time his trademark metric ton of toms and other drums are led by the sexiest of saxophones. The life, movement and seemingly infinite amount of instrumentation he sews together is more than enough to leave your head spinning yet soars supremely smoothly. It's been too long since I've been able to sing the praises of Stephen Walking, so you can only imagine my excitement in being able to bring this new beauty to Bump In The Hump tonight. Stream below. After last week's deep dive into DnB, we turn our head to the strength of the Canadian wave scene, with the likes of Memphis and MRKRYL, among others. There's the usual hearty helping of house, including a couple weapons from our favourite labels BADLQQK and Turbo. We also look ahead to the weekend with several events showcased, alongside a forthcoming Hanz Ford production. Finally we feature tracks from brand new albums by Felix Cartal and Venetian Snares & Daniel Lanois. Catch Bump In The Hump live from 7-9 PM EDT via Radio Humber, or after the fact with Mixcloud.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Orbiter - Want You

My love for Stephen Walking has been well documented on Bump In The Hump, but it's been a while since we had any new music from him. That's finally changed, as he's surprised us with a new duo called Orbiter with 7 Minutes Dead. If you thought it was a long time between Stephen Walking releases, that's nothing compared to the hiatus for 7 Minutes Dead who breaks his 2 year silence with "Want You." Since both are Monstercat mainstays it's no surprise that's where we find their first release. Their partnership too seems like a obvious match, as both delve into epic stories with wild instrumentation and exceptional energy. Their almost cinematic approach comes to full effect as Orbiter, depicting a dark neo-future landscape. Still, love survives and stands strong with "Want You." Joining Orbiter tonight on Radio Humber, are new tracks from aiwake, Kill Them With Colour, and friends of the show, Loud Luxury. You'll also hear the exclusive first play of the latest from Leterna, plus a track released in honour of Sleepycatt's birthday yesterday. Catch the hour of new Canadian electronic music that is Bump In The Hump. live from 6-7 PM EDT, here.

Top 100 Tracks of 2016: 66 - 34

Continuation of the list started yesterday: From 100 - 67, which also includes my disclaimer/preamble. Soundcloud playlist can be found at the bottom.

#66: Meroshi - Summer Friends
It's hard to believe we made it this far into the list without some drum and bass, but here we are. Meroshi's genius is on full display here. His sound design impeccable, crafting instruments that feel so real, imbuing them with life and passion. The subtle effects and progression he works throughout, give the track an incredible energy. It's horny, groovy and those vocal samples get me every time.

#65: Stephen Walking - It Came From Planet Earth
2015 was the year I discovered and fell in love with Stephen Walking. This year marked a change in his productions, leaving behind the bass of "One Man Moon Band" and "The Difference Between Us And The Aliens," in which he explored different BPMs and styles. However, sticking to his interstellar, future disco/funk disposition, "It Came From Planet Earth" exudes awesomeness.

#64: Cashmere Cat - Trust Nobody (ft. Selena Gomez & Tory Lanez)
The rise of Cashmere Cat over the past two years is a testament to his nearly unrivaled ability, not only to produce around vocalists, but to craft truly divine sounds. While his recent work skews further from the kind of beautiful bangers of Mirror Maru or Wedding Bells, "Trust Nobody" shows off his smooth touch and delightful decorum. This further establishes Cashmere Cat as an paralleled producer.

#63: Jadu Heart - Late Night
Fittingly, I first heard this on a late night coming home from the club. That first flourish hit me like a magic spell, utterly alluring and beautifully breathtaking. And while it worked so magically in that hazy atmosphere, I now use it whenever I need a pick-me-up. It holds a special power in its easy flowing sound, so organic and raw as though it were recorded in one take. Heart rending harmonies through truly insightful and emotionally evocative lyrics, it's always on my mind.

#62: Jameston Thieves - Hypnotic
This certainly doesn't sound like a banger for the first 45 seconds, that is until it dives into a deep house beat. Torquing up the tension Jameston Thieves quickly turn "Hypnotic" in to an all out thrasher, banging the bass with massive strobing throbs, that contrasts so brilliantly with the brighter leads. The sound design of the bass in the drop may be the key to the track's quality, but it truly excels and finds itself in this list because of the drums fills leading into the drop as well as the supporting production.

#61: Justin Jay & Friends - Karma (JJ's Late Nite Dub)
Hearing Justin Jay play this at The Hoxton was one of the highlights of the year; I feel too many DJs are scared to play something out of the ordinary, something that doesn't bang, something not designed for the club. This is the kind of uplifting, yet downtempo, track that I could listen to any time of the day. It's built upon a beautiful premise ("You get what you give") and simple yet sublime instrumentation.

#60: Machinedrum - Angel Speak (ft. MeLo-X)
While I've called Machinedrum's Human Energy my album of the year (in my Grammys post), I decided to include only one track from it in this is (though many are deserving). The problem is the album stands as a cohesive collection, so separating tracks seemed wrong. The exception, and stand out track from it is this, "Angel Speak." For me it encompasses all that makes the album so magical. It it full of life, bringing humanity to the the synthesized sounds, begging listeners to move their feet. Like the album itself it also bounces around from different rhythms, instruments and grooves, truly coming alive.

#59: Torro Torro & Aylen - Designed 4 U
(As featured on EFYE) 2016 blessed us with one of the best collabs the bass community has ever seen. Torro Torro and Aylen are perfect for each other, as clearly evidenced in this track. Everything screams sheer brilliance as the synths never stop moving or progressing, and those vocal riffs, while leading the track they also support and play perfectly into the utterly insane and diverse drops. There really is nothing better than drop by drop progression, and these three take that to the next level, making the first, already awesome drop, pale in comparison to the callous second coming.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Carson Teal EP and Bedroomer ∞ Duality

This week on Bump In The Hump, I've got a track from Carson Teal's debut, eponymous EP, set to close out the night as the weekend warm up. Carson will be spinning alongside fellow Bedroomers: Hudson Alexander, Kare, Internet Daughter, Eytan Tobin, Burglar and special guests: moistbreezy, AudioOpera, Abby and Viscera, for Bedroomer's Duality Halloween party, Friday night at Rally. It looks to be an all night party (9pm-5am), in which costumes are recommended, and you're asked to pick sides between Singularity and Viscerality, although I'm sure you're allowed to go back and forth. If you want more info, check out the event page on facebook, and stream Carson Teal's EP below. Which track from the above EP you'll hear tonight I'm going to keep a secret until the tracklist goes live at 6, but I will give you a hint that a certain new Netflix show shares part of its title. Other tracks on tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump include new Bwana, Stephen Walking, Ramzoid, Excision and Jacques Greene. Stream the hour of brand new Canadian electronic music live on Radio Humber from 6-7 PM EDT, here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Four Favourites

Bump In The Hump is back tonight with the second of three special September Showcase episodes, live on 96.9 FM Radio Humber. Just as last week, I've got a number of my favourite tracks cue'd up for this week's episode in anticipation of two separate nights of partying. First and also our final track of the night comes from Frustra and NAHTE, "Flex." The latter will be performing alongside Hey! DW and James Redi at Supermarket for Home Brew. More details can be found on the Facebook event page. Saturday marks yet another installment of Hunter Siegel's always awesome No Neon series, this time featuring Los Angeles producer Joyryde, with support from locals VANRIP and Edan. Last year this event was held on the 20th of September, Hunter's birthday. This year Hunter delivered a gift of his own, a bootleg track that you can pick up for free on the No Neon soundcloud. In honour of the Dark Plur god himself and his now legendary No Neon nights, I've got three of his tracks back to back to back. Tickets to Saturday night at The Hoxton are still available but will go quick, RSVP and such, here. Finally, we head back to the beginning, where for these September Showcase episodes I kick off the action with one of my favourite tracks of all time. Last week it was Stephen Walking's "Shark City," and this week it's the undeniably awesome and potent production of Botnek's "Through The Night." I had so much fun compiling and presenting last week's episode of Bump In The Hump and can safely say this week's will be just as exciting. These four tracks are the only ones that were not released in the past couple weeks, allowing Bump In The Hump to maintain its focus on brand new music. So be sure to tune in to Radio Humber live from 6-7 EST, to hear new IDGVF, Pusher, and Somna, among others!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: September Showcase

After a week off, Bump In The Hump returns to Radio Humber with the first of a three part series, called the September Showcase. Before the fifth season properly begins on October 5th, I'll be reintroducing listeners to the Bump In The Hump brand by bringing you the same new, quality Canadian content you've come to expect, as well as the bootleg remixes and free downloads that have been the backbone of Bump In The Hump's over 50 episodes. Each episode, I'll be playing a trio of tracks from one great Canadian artist, as well as revealing my three favourite tracks, one each week. As a teaser, I've uploaded the new intro I created specifically for these showcase episodes, listen below.
The new intro features Pusher's latest release "Shake Down," from his forthcoming EP New Laces, set to drop this Friday, the 16th. You can have "Shake Down" as well as "Clear" and "Tell You" (both of which have previously aired on Bump In The Hump) immediately with a pre-order of New Laces.

For the first episode of the September Showcase, I've got three A-Trak tracks, two brand new remixes of him and one remix of his own. If you've been following Bump In The Hump it will come as no surprise that the first of my three favourite tracks comes from the one and only Stephen Walking. Tune in to Radio Humber live, Wednesday from 6-7 EST to hear all this and more.

I also have a number of surprises and big things set to come by October 5th, when the fifth season of Bump In The Hump kicks off. I can't say anything further at this point, but I can assure you there's an incredible amount of music coming your way soon!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Tiga - Make Me Fall In Love (Benny Benassi Remix)

Months ago I professed my love for Prosumer's Mysti Remix of Tiga's track "Make Me Fall In Love" (read it here) now another legend in the music scene has added his touch to the already awesome Tiga track. It's with great pleasure that I'll be able to play perhaps the single most influential producer in my life, on Bump In The Hump. There's very little that, Benny Benassi hasn't accomplished in the world of electronic music, save for working with Canadian culture icon Tiga, that is until now. Benny brings his signature brand of Benassi bass and Italian intuition, to this mix, now available on Spinnin' Deep. It's everything you could possibly expect from two of the most prolific producers of this generation. Tune in to 96.9 FM Radio Humber live tonight from 6-7 to hear this alongside more of the best new Canadian electronic music on Bump In The Hump, including brand new Grandtheft & TroyBoi, Jackal, Vincent, Stephen Walking, and exclusive premieres from Honey Beard, ZaGa and 404!
