Top 100 Tracks of 2017: 100-76

Starting today, through Friday, I'll be revealing my list of the "Top 100 Tracks of 2017." The following is my disclaimer, as I feel it important to preface this kind of list with some insight into its creation and the reasoning behind it. While I spent a lot of time seriously pouring through this year of music, this is not really a serious endeavour. It is merely my fun way of further sharing the tracks and artists that made my year better. The rankings may not be scientific or even fair, rather they are simply a reflection on how strongly I felt these tracks and how much praise I felt they deserved.

As with last years list (starting here), you'll see that I included multiple tracks from my favourite artists. You'll also notice that the thread of disco/funk runs strongly throughout, as it is without question where I found myself going most this year. I did however try to touch on a variety of genres, while of course sticking to what I really like and felt warranted inclusion in such a list. Again mirroring last year, you'll find a relatively low amount of 'club' music, certainly in comparison to the amount of time I spent within them. But that's just me, I tend to listen to and enjoy so called 'headphone' music as much as big, banging, sub-woofer throbbing, beats. That being said plenty of this list would pulverize a club and I'd love to hear any of these tracks on a big system.

Finally, I will once again say that this is by no means an exhaustive list; there are without a doubt exceptional tunes that somehow failed to make the cut. However, onward and, in this case, downward, from tracks 100 to 76 we go. See the soundcloud playlist here and at the bottom of the page.

Bump In The Hump: July 5 (Season 6, Episode 10)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Smash Mouth - All Star (AGNO3 Remix)

In the past three weeks alone, friend of the show, AGNO3 has released 3 new productions. Each being more incredible than the next, and as seems to be the case with AGNO3, they aren't just technically terrifying, they're thought-provoking as well. The first, "Perspective" features the voice of Carl Sagan, arguably the greatest mind of the past generation. It's an incredibly poignant production, that leaves you like the human race of which Sagan speaks, floating in the vastness of our infinite reality.

Then came "Mushrooms," a more typical AGNO3 track, grand in form yet irksome in its delivery. The sound design matches the titular potent potable, sending alien shivers down your spine while you lie in a growing lather of lunacy. While these two are madness inducing mindf*cks, the next is even moreso.

Enter Steve Harwell and his now more meme than music, Smash Mouth and that track from Shrek, "All Star." But hold on, this is no meme, this is actually modern music (or post modern if you prefer) at its best. AGNO3, a self professed Smash Mouth fan, has taken the familiar and made it foreign again. Rife with tech based clicks and beeps amidst demonic bass and utterly evil vocal tuning, it feels to me as if AGNO3's version of "All Star" is an alarm bell against the viciousness of technology. What was once a classic and beloved pop track has become no less than a lark, a mere meme as a result of the relentless world we live in. Maybe its coincidence but AGNO3's first original of 2017 was entitled "Saviour" and in my eyes/ears that just what he's done with this and his other remixes this year. Hear the all new version of "All Star" on Radio Humber tonight, in perhaps the heaviest hour of Bump In The Hump yet. There's new Kayliox, CastNowski, Michael Sparks, Dropwizz and another installment from CRaymak's First Of The Month series. Plus another new single from Lunice's forthcoming debut album CCCLX. Finally the hour comes to a close with brand new Bensley. All the action happens live from 6-7 PM EDT, here.

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Sevla - Bandits

It's been about half a year between releases for Toronto's Sevla, but the man is back with a bonafide banger. "Bandits" sees Sevla transition from the "TRVP GOD" description on his soundcloud to a house head. But this isn't your typical house track, its bass driven along the lines Malaa or even fellow Canadians: CastNowski, CYMN and Audiation; the latter two are also represented on this episode. After last week's more laidback summer themed edition of Bump In The Hump, the Radio Humber airwaves are set to feel the pure technological terror of an hour of power. If "Bandits" is any indication, Selva seems set to spark fires all summer long. Download/Stream via MMXVAC.
Tonight's episode features remixes from Rezz, WHIPPED CREAM, and the sixth edition of CRaymak's First of the Month series. As well as a remix of Sinjin Hawke, there's incredible originals from AGNO3, Ramzoid, and Shifting Black. Finally we look ahead to My Mixtape with a 10 minutes of my conversation with Tom and Gary of Honey Beard who are set to host Friday night at 11. Don't miss tonight's all new hour of Canadian electronic music live from 6-7 PM EDT.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: 3 New AGNO3 Remixes

Here we are on the 18th day of 2017, and already we've received 3 brand new remixes from AGNO3, one of which I'll be bringing to you tonight on Bump In The Hump. First, just over a week ago he dropped a remix of Drake and The Weeknd's "Crew Love," now yesterday he released two more classics, his takes on Linkin Park's "Numb" and Blur's "Song 2." Each track is more than just a remix, it's a stamp of AGNO3's signature sound, repositioning the tracks from rock or RnB to gritty electro. You can even see AGNO3 live after nearly a year off, he'll be spinning at Club 77 in support of Rezz, January 28th. Get your tickets here, and do it quickly as AGNO3 promises "a ton of special tracks."Stream each of AGNO3's remixes above, message him if you want the downloads, and find out which one I play tonight on Bump In The Hump. Also on tonight's episode a track from Bobby Jay's debut mixtape Way2Amazing, a deluxe mix of Robotaki, the latest from A-Trak and Phantogram, and a chat with 404 ahead of his exclusive laden set for My Mixtape. Listen live from 6-7 PM EST, here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Future Magic x Wicka - Yeah

The premieres are coming fast and furious to Bump In The Hump. After last week's exclusive premiere from friend of the show Cosella, and his collab with FromDropTillDawn "No Boundaries," another hallmark of Bump In The Hump, Future Magic has gifted us with a brand new original. Truth be told I had a different Future Magic production already cue'd up but when he messaged me this morning proposing I premiere his collab with Wicka, "Yeah," of course that was my response, "uh yeah." This latest production from fellow Muskokan and Rochester's Wicka, sees a departure from their raucous trap flip of Flosstradamus' "Mosh Pit." "Yeah" is far more delicate and subtle in its style, playing with vocals and anime-esque soundtrack feels, surrounded by warm uplifting chords that would fit perfectly in any Porter Robinson track. This is affirmative future bass, not too hard hitting, but firmly fun and heartening. Like the vast majority of Future Magic's productions, it is available for free download.
Hear "Yeah" as a part of an hour of the best new Canadian electronic music on Bump In The Hump, live from 6-7 PM EST on Radio Humber. I've also got brand new tracks from Internet Daughter, Vincent, Adam Pearce, Dom Dias, AGNO3, and another exclusive premiere from WWRD as our #WeekendWarmup, ahead of her set Saturday at Studio Bar (details here).

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Interview and Premiere from AGNO3

After his set Friday night at The Hoxton, I got a chance to chat with friend of the show, AGNO3 about many topics, including but not limited to: his name, where he finds his inspiration, his rock influences, the expectations that come with a DJ set, his artistic vision, his upcoming shows, working with Monstercat, his dream collaboration, and the story behind Deadmau5 blocking him on twitter. Whet your appetite with the lead in, here (I promise, the rest of his answer and the interview itself is not lame): Furthering the Deadmau5 storyline, AGNO3 has blessed me with a copy of his remix of "I Remember," which I'll be giving it's well deserved radio premiere. Until then enjoy the stream below. For all of this and more, including another exclusive premiere, you'll want to tune into Radio Humber live from 11-midnight EST here and later on, on this very blog. Even further, I'll be uploading the director's cut of the full conversation between myself and AGNO3. Stay tuned to this page for more!
