Enlightened Listening for July 30

It's the Friday of a long weekend, so without further ado, I present this week's Enlightened Listening. Sorted from light, light-hearted and groovy to heavy, deep and banging, the 16 releases feature countless trusted names, several pre-album singles, and yes, a trio of awesome Anjuna offerings. Finally, I will note that, while not in the playlist, the two tracks I wrote about earlier this week, "Don't Tread On Else Matters" and "Only One," are just as highly recommended as the rest of these fine productions. Enlightened Listening for April 16

It's Friday and I'm busy as all hell, but that doesn't mean I can skip the weekly tradition of Enlightened Listening. However, I will forgo any specific shoutouts save for the godly Gaspard Augé offering "Force Majeure," the lead single from the Justice co-founder's forthcoming album. Enlightened Listening for January 22

After what I thought was an incredible haul with last week's Enlightened Listening, this week's harvest is more than three times the size! Of course, there are a few releases we've been building towards here with early singles from Bicep's Isles and Logic1000's You've Got The Whole Night To Go, but there's so much more than that! There are two Tim Reaper EPs, including his fabulous and incredibly hyped (deservingly so) Special Request remix EP. There are two other solo albums as bass legends DC Breaks and Flux Pavilion drop DCXV and .wav, respectively. In other shorter offerings, there are seven incredible EPs from the likes of Kessler, Low Poly, Apashe and Tiefschwarz. On the other side of the spectrum, Afterlife offers up an epic 25 track, nearly three-hour compilation in Unity Pt. 2. Showcasing high octane tech house, Cloverdale's rounded up a half-dozen tracks for his label Vibrancy's first compilation, Exhibits Vol. 1. Rounding things out, there's a handful of singles and remixes, including CamelPhat's take on London Grammar and Undercatt's take on Robert Mills' "Children". Stream the new music playlist below and find each individual release linked at the bottom. Enlightened Listening for January 8

It's our first real Friday of the year, which means it's high time to get back on the Enlightened Listening bandwagon. While we're just getting our feet under us, we're going to keep things short and sweet, both musically and with this description.

Nine new releases span 15 tracks that move from progressive house through a bevy of banging Apashe remixes to a killer conclusion from oh! gee. While I'm recommending all nine releases, I want to further highlight the tough Kerri Chandler remix of one of 2020's best, "Heartbreak," and the stunning High Contrast remix of "Freedom," which, in a truly random coincidence, I woke up singing yesterday. Yotto - Nova (Cassian Remix)

Aussie Cassian has been lending his incredible abilities to many a track as of late, taking on Bob Moses, Hayden James and Rüfüs Du Sol in recent months. Today he's offered up a massive mix of fantastic Finn Yotto's enormous "Nova." Just as the original seems to take place in the ever expanding reaches of outer space, Cassian's take on "Nova" is too an interstellar odyssey. The down under talent turns down the brightness, flipping the solar sheen into a nocturnal nightmare through bounding bass strides. However, this is not to say that the original is a simply all sunshine and weightlessness, but there is no denying that Cassian has keyed in on the explosive energy that drives "Nova," giving it a fearsome fuel injection. A fantastic and far reaching remix, this cataclysmic convulsion is truly captivating. Enlightened Listening for February 1

Another week down and another great list of releases waiting for you. This edition of Enlightened Listening features plenty of tracks to keep you warm wherever you are, whether they're 'literally fire' or moving enough to get you doing the same. Leading things off is an incredible album from Luttrell.

 Into Clouds is beautiful and powerful throughout, but if you want a selling point before diving right in, check out any of the middle 4 tracks, you don't be disappointed. Following that are six singles mostly on the dancier, groovier side, or at least starting moreso that way, and ending more tech-driven.

warner case dropped a track on Kitsuné and its got the same sublime salaciousness and funky aloof feel I've loved from the start. Mercer takes us poolside with another neo-disco delivery in "Your Love." Staying with steady quality, Purple Disco Machine offers up a sensational, expansive take on the already awesome Years & Years/Jax Jones joint "Play." It just keeps getting better however as Alex Metric too has offered up an epic remix, filling all rooms and ears with his fat, funky take on Parcels "Lightenup." More you say? How about The Chemical Brothers?

Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have a new album on the way with No Geography due out April 12, and we got a taste of it today in "Got To Keep On." It's stupid good, and I don't think there's anything else to say about it. Classic Chemical Brothers, beyond brilliant. As if there we're enough epic remixes already, let's add one more to the pile in Eagles & Butterflies nearly 10 remix of "Enough To Believe." Just like the other Bob Moses remixes, there's an undeniable allure, but ascendingly electronic delivery makes this mix an absolute marvel.

Finally, we close things out with some fire in LICK's fearsome four track DIMENSION EP and Rusko's remix of "Rebel Love." It feels like hardly any time has passed since I first heard LICK in his remix of Malaa, and now here he is going off with electrifying originals on Deadbeats. Shutting things down Rusko once again shows off his status as Don of the Dub. His design is like no other and it shines, or rather, burns bright throughout this mix. The Magician - Magic Tape 86

After authoring some of my favourite mixes last year, The Magician's Magic Tape series returns with the 86th edition today. Always a top notch mix of disco, house, and funk from both the biggest acts and rising stars, the eclectic selection is sure to satisfy as well as set off your salivary glands as we get a taste of some new creations. Of the first seven tracks, five of them are unreleased or forthcoming with the two already released "Stay The Night" from HERO and "Paris Madness" from Samaran both coming in the last month. Certainly one could drool about all of these forthcoming releases but I can't get over 1) how good the Jamie Jones remix of Bob Moses is and 2) how well it goes into Rebūke's "Along Came Polly." With another Rebūke track, from the forthcoming Dirtybird Jump Ship EP, an ID and a vibes for days finale in 700 Bliss' "Ring The Alarm" and IZNiiK "Losing U," this is yet another awesome example of the quality of The Magician and his Magic Tape series. Enlightened Listening for December 7

Here we are with another fantastic Friday of releases. This week's Enlightened Listening includes the likes of a couple killer EPs from Botnek and Volac, bass brilliance from LSDREAM and WHIPPED CREAM, and a long awaited collab from Slumberjack and TroyBoi. Listen/read below and enjoy!

Qrion - Pending Matters
The track she was using as an intro to her GAF tour. Beautiful and expansive. Can't help but feel a Jacques Greene vibe and lord knows that's a good thing.

 Friendly Fires - Heaven Let Me In (Melé Remix)
Spoiler alert: The original is in my top 100, but this new version make take its spot and send it even higher in the standings. Melé's absolutely nailed the vibe and given us even more to groove to.

 Bob Moses - Heaven Only Knows (FaltyDL Remix)
Love the dirty, dark vibes brought in for this mix, especially as they play again the piano chords.

 LSDREAM - Shadow Self
Whatever moniker he uses, Sami Diament always puts his heart and soul into his productions. Clearly the case here, this isn't just a brilliant banger but a slice of modern humanity. I feel like LSDREAM and WHIPPED CREAM are on the same wavelength and the prospect of a collab is something I cannot get out of my head. Hopefully this note is enough for me to speak it into existence.

 Slumberjack x TroyBoi - Solid
Speaking of killer collabs, when I first heard this at the TroyBoi/Slumberjack show over a year ago it was clear this was a weapon. Now in full form we're realizing the full force of Slumberjack's dope drum design and TroyBoi's top notch twists and turns.

 Botnek - Can't Remember
After nearly calling it quits, Botnek really seem to have found their form with this new deeper house sound. As you would expect the collab with Aylen is all kinds of crazy.

 Volac - Funky
Holy huge EP. Both tracks are absolutely massive floor fillers. Tech house quality design with just the right amount of funk and off-kilter groove to keep you entertained.

 WHIPPED CREAM - Luv
While she calls this something different, it really feels like we're getting the most genuine WHIPPED CREAM to date. That said, it's almost impossible to pin down this track, but maybe that's what she's getting at.

 Yultron - Slave To The Rave
Absolutely jacking stuff. A banger among a list of bangers. If you haven't lost your head yet wait for the second drop.

Despite it falling at the same time every year, Thanksgiving weekend always seems to sneak up on us. Enlightened Listening for September 14

Another Friday, another top notch day for releases. This week's Enlightened Listening includes EPs and album we already enjoyed singles from (Bob Moses, Dizzee Rascal, Aphex Twin, and Djedjotronic), remixes of tracks we love (Djemba Djemba, Gerd Janson, Babert, Sultan + Shepard, and Friction) and some of our favourites artists in (Harrison, BIJOU, Masayoshi Iimori and Sub Focus with Dimension). Once again I've attempted to curate the 46 tracks and 3+ hours of content into a flowing movement while obviously albums break that up. Individuals releases below along with short descriptions.

Bob Moses - Battle Lines
Fantastic follow up album. Not a collection of singles but a brilliant story led by Tom Howie's lyrics. Worthy multiple listens, done easily through the wonderfully woven, chill connective tissue.

 Harrison - Your Girl (ft. Ralph)
Beautiful, chill funk with just enough snap to keep you coming back for more. Harrison's album is really starting to take shape.

Kiesza - Phantom Of The Dancefloor (Djemba Djemba Remix)
The Stuart Price (Jacques Lu Cont) produced single enjoys an update from previous Kiesza collaborator Djemba Djemba. Sparkling, spritely, futuristic fun this one warms my heart.

 SG Lewis ft. AlunaGeorge - Hurting (Gerd Janson Remix)
Would not have guessed that "Hurting" would be this good as 118 club tweeker but here we are thanks to Gerd Janson who continues to stay hot. ICYMI check out his "Neutron Dance" mix from last month.

 Purple Disco Machine - Dished (Male Stripper) [Babert Italo Disco Remix]
My favourite of the new remix package. Stay closest and is in my eyes the most well suited to the original. A wonderfully, warm bouncy ride that you never want to end.

 Aevion - Wild Safari
The most feels from whatever is making that oh so safari sound, and I don't mean the elephant-esque horns, the bird cries, or the tribal chanting. Wreaks of wide open spaces and wild energy.

 Fatboy Slim - Gangster Trippin (Sultan + Shepard Remix)
The duo keeps updating the past and keeps doing it well. The energy and allure of the original stays strong while this new version pops off with an extra ounce of oomph.

 BIJOU - Super Phat
One of bass/G-house's finest artists on arguably bass/G-house's best label. Four equally intimidating and mean banging bass tracks with just the right amount of swing to leave the crowd in the lurches.

 K+Lab - I Can't Wait (ft. Phonik Ops & Jakeda)
Westwood comes through again with stanky sax and gritty glitch hop grooves. Fire funk.

 Dizzee Rascal - Don't Gas Me
Big productions in the title track and "Money Right," which is immediately one of my favourite tracks of the year, two legends atop a sick beat. Skepta has one hell of a production ear.

 Masayoshi Iimori - Flow
Masayoshi is like a mad scientist, when his monstrous creations come to life they can bring worldwide destruction and this one does some serious damage.

 Aphex Twin - Collapse
There is no one quite like Aphex Twin and we're reminded of that fact again. Where working with seemingly ethereal synths or their darker dirtier counterparts he always crafts something of uncommon value. Tweak out to these five tracks and feel your brain collapse in on itself.

 Sub Focus & Dimension - Desire (Only on Youtube in Canada)
Every time these two legends meet up magic is made. Screams of the good old days especially when you have to watch on UKF's youtube.

 Tom Grennan - Found What I've Been Looking For (Friction 'Back To 92' Mix)
Another nostalgia laced DnB track. Friction has absolutely nailed the raw energetic ethos of those days.

 Djedjotronic - R.U.R
I've never encountered a techno album quite like this one. Djedjotronic is an absolute wizard, authoring some of the most enticing and electrifying releases of the year. There are no holes, only puzzles pieces of a greater whole that is all kinds of awesome.

As first heard in his episode of My Mixtape (here), this is one of the better examples of Chromak's breadth of music ability. It is cool and groovy, and big and bold with that brass. Perfect summer tune.

Bob Moses - Heaven Only Knows
Dreamy yet dark, beautiful yet bloodcurdling. I don't know what I'm more wrapped up in, the vocals or the top notch sound design. We know the sky is the limit for Bob Moses, but this may be their best yet.

Perfume Genius - Slip Away (Mura Masa Remix)
Just another incredible example of Mura Masa's undeniable genius. The levels and layers of sounds, melodies and movement, and their intermingling, give me goosebumps. It is unlike anything I've ever heard, except it's exactly what I expect from Mura Masa.

Chromeo ft. DRAM & Jesse Johnson - Must've Been (Phantoms Remix)
A stark contrast from the previous three remixes of "Must've Been," Phantoms drive it deep into a dimly lit tunnel. That said, the funk at the core still stands strong in this stripped down delight.

Sébastien Léger - Naive / Tristesse
As I tweeted yesterday I woke up to "Lost Miracle" and wondered when we'd get new Seb, and here it is. Once again we're treated to his extended and progressive genius as "Naive" arises effortlessly out of the opening and blossoms beautifully. "Tristesse" takes a darker more demure direction, while still offering up the shimmering spirit of play that makes all of Leger's productions such vivid dream sequences.

MNEK - Colour (ft. Hailee Steinfeld)
Whatever instrument(s) it is that opens this track nails the rainbow resplendence of its title. It is a pure pop production, but one that I can get behind and groove to. A worthy companion to "Never Forget You."

Claptone - Stronger (ft. Ben Duffy)
Like Chromeo, Claptone has been on one hell of a streak with singles and corresponding remixes. This latest is a light guitar groover whose crisp cool nature and eventual bass bounce are sure to satisfy.

Joe Goddard - So Much / Human Touch
The lead track feels like the perfect combination of everything Joe Goddard, as though "Home," "Lose Your Love" and "Music Is The Answer" all became one. That said there's also a touch of Peggy Gou and "It Make You Forget" in there somewhere. I just love this "So Much." The b-side is more drum dominant, but still features the sublime synth designs that puts Joe in a league of his own. A delightful dream.

Flight Facilities - All Your Love (ft. Dustin Tebbutt)
Another track I tweeted about yesterday (here), and while I recommended Alex Metric, Aeroplane or both (Metroplane) remix it, "All Your Love" is beautiful in its own right. Tebbutt's vocals are an awesome addition leading the serene soundscape deep into your soul. Indietronic at its best.
