A couple weeks ago I had Meech of RYME back into the Radio Humber studios where we were joined by Brock Edwards. The embed below features our full uncut conversation (at least what was recorded). Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Eddie Amador - House Music (Jerome Robins 'Tribute' Remix)

This week's episode of Bump In The Hump marks the return of My Mixtape and with that comes an interview at the conclusion of each show. Followers of my socials will already know that the first episode/interview feature two of Toronto's busiest house creators and curators, Brock Edwards and RYME. Crowd Control - Is It Daylight?

Life is easy when one of your favourite artists drops a track just in time to get your week off to a smooth start. That was the case today when French house producer Crowd Control released "Is It Daylight?" as part of his 3 track Housy Love Songs Vol. 1 EP. Just last week Meech and I chatted (here) about the onetime BADLQQK rookie, and our love for him, especially his bootlegs, and here we are gifted with this beautiful, sampled based take on Ashford & Simpson's "It Seems To Hang On." Like his McFadden & Whitehead and more recent Black Box remixes, this too features fantastic use of filters, injecting a playful movement into every moment of the track. The drums bump and  bang, finding a funky balance between the four on the floor norm and the glitchy playful effects. However my favourite piece of this production comes in the subtle swells of synths, brass bursts and smooth sliding sample usage. New Seasons of Bump In The Hump and My Mixtape

The summer is wrapping up and things are progressing towards new seasons of both Bump In The Hump and My Mixtape. Today my inbox received audio 3 promos to go along with a video, recorded during last week's episode (here), so I figured I'd share and announce the season premiere dates.

Bump In The Hump will premiere its eighth season September 12th in its normal Wednesday 7-9 timeslot. We will continue with new episodes through then with a special recap/preview episode September 5th. My Mixtape will follow suit kicking off a long line of mixes September 15th at 11 PM on Radio Humber, as always. With Brodinski taking over CODA Saturday (RSVP/Tickets), I knew I had to find something to fit into this week's episode of Bump In The Hump. Then of course I realized his remix of Gesaffelstein's "Viol" came to us through Tiga's Turbo Recordings. Crowd Control & Popka - Happiness Therapy Split (Vol. 1)

Just over a year ago I was introduced to French house producer Crowd Control through BADLQQK and his sensational RQQKIES release "I House You." This potent palette pleaser was a wonderful warm up for his beautiful blend of throwback house tracks, particularly his Invitation To A Better Place and 90's Groove EPs. Now this week we've got our first full look at his next release, a split EP with UK producer Popka, Happiness Therapy Split, which is set for a Friday (June 15th) release. Get it here.These two are a perfect fit, filling this EP with warm, buoyant and utterly enjoyable grooves, and dance-worthy delights. From start to finish it hearkens back to a time when house had heart, with a masterful mix of electronic and organic instrumentation.

"Yes It's Me" shows off Crowd Control's fantastic feel for filtering, allowing listeners to ease into the groove before being pushed onto the floor with propellant horn hits. Diving right into a brilliant bass line "Can't Keep My Hands" offers up some sensational sampling of T.S. Monk and again sets the table for this dance-all-night kind of EP. And this is where Popka takes over and really runs with things.

Offering up two 8+ minute tracks the second half of Happiness Therapy Split spirals into a Soul Train Line. "Rhythm Child" and its extended excellence plays host to more elements than you can shake a stick at, allowing you to take a breather mid-track, then return in full force with a new routine. Finally "Too Much Pressure" bookends the EP by again easing you into its wobbly warm groove before cutting back the vocal chops and letting the synth lead out. And again like "Yes It's Me" the filtering in and out of layers gives great dynamism and dance-worthiness. Best of all, the final flourish once again reveals the organic, human heart behind the electronic nature of house. Truly a perfect cap to this EP.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Stephen Walking - Glide

The one and only Stephen Walking is back with a brand new production, his first solo original release in over a year. "Glide" sees a return to his enigmatic, spacefunk/dadrock sound best noted in the 364 day run from "Dads In Space" through to "It Came From Planet Earth." That said "Glide" blasts into the abyss in a slightly different fashion, this time his trademark metric ton of toms and other drums are led by the sexiest of saxophones. The life, movement and seemingly infinite amount of instrumentation he sews together is more than enough to leave your head spinning yet soars supremely smoothly. It's been too long since I've been able to sing the praises of Stephen Walking, so you can only imagine my excitement in being able to bring this new beauty to Bump In The Hump tonight. Stream below.After last week's deep dive into DnB, we turn our head to the strength of the Canadian wave scene, with the likes of Memphis and MRKRYL, among others. There's the usual hearty helping of house, including a couple weapons from our favourite labels BADLQQK and Turbo. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Marco Marz - Acquisition

On Bump In The Hump I pride myself on bringing the latest and greatest in dance and electronic from across the country, and it's safe to say "Acquisition," from friend of the show Marco Marz, checks both of those boxes. It's been more than a year since he graced us with an hour of unholy house for My Mixtape, and if you thought his star was bright then, he's about to go supernova now. After his BADLQQK RQQKIE release he further announced his arrival with a genius take on Jay-Z's "PSA", made moves onto CastNowski's UpNorth with "Get Money," before wrapping up the year with some December deepness in his remix of DLMT and Ellis' "How Does It Feel." Now I've been privy to some potent productions he's sitting on, and this track is only the start of a superb 2018. So buckle in for the bass bounce of Marco Marz and enjoy "Acquisition" below, before Bump In The Hump tonight.
Joining Master Marz we've got another hearty helping of house of the disco, deep, bass, and tech varieties. There's a touch a trance, future bass, to go with a trap, DnB and dubstep laden Fire Finale. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: RYME & Cosella - You Wanna

After a week off, Bump In The Hump is back with its new seventh season, and what better way to celebrate than with new music from friends of the show RYME and Cosella. The BADLQQK family had some celebrating of their own with the three track RYME & Friends EP being their 20th release. Plus they're set to do a mini-tour, playing Datcha in Montreal Oct 12th and Rum Runners in London Oct 14th, both with the legendary Don Rimini. "You Wanna" finally sees RYME and Cosella working together on the same track, having only remixed each other previously, and all I can say is how much I hope they get back in the studio soon as this absolutely bangs. If BADLQQK's motto is "Make Club Music Great Again" it sure seems to be in good hands. Stream the track below and the whole EP here.With this newseason of Bump In The Hump, we've expanded to two hours, meaning double the dancing, including a cheeky mix between this and another track, keyword being dancing. The Wonderland That Was WayHome 2017 (Recap)

When the lineup for the WayHome Music and Arts festival was first announced, there were two artists at the top of my list: Justice and Mura Masa. By the time the festival actually rolled around I had added a significant number of names to my list of must see acts (see here and here), but still there were two tracks from those first two artists that I essentially hung all my anticipation on: my #1 track of 2016 "Randy" (read here) and "Helpline" (read here). Unfortunately neither track was played, but that didn't stop this past weekend from being perhaps THE BEST WEEKEND EVER.

This being both my first WayHome, and my first overnight camping festival, I went in with very few expectations or even ideas about what I was getting myself into. I was also flying solo for the most part (bouncing between groups of friends, as I'm apt to do), which allowed for full freedom and discovery. I had a strong schedule of who I wanted to see, but that was more of guideline rather than a strict itinerary. And this is part of what I love about being a blogger/reviewer as opposed to a photographer/videographer/etc, it allows me to experience the festival as a whole, while still focusing on the music. From the camping, food, staff, fellow WayHomies and everything in between, WayHome was pure perfection. If you're reading for the music only, jump ahead to the break below.

Weather
Mother nature set the mood for the weekend right off the bat, clearing out the clouds, turning up the temperature and letting the sun shine full blast from Friday morning through Sunday evening. Even the grass was green, which I'm told was not the case in previous years. Check out the Friday night sunset.

Camping
The seemingly endless rows of camping played host to hundreds of little parties. It was absolutely mind-blowing walking from one corner to another, passing thousands of people all here for the same thing. Saturday morning I met up with 404, and we literally went back and forth between a half dozen different groups of people getting ready another full day of fun. This was tiring walking so far, but inspiring in that it brought so many people together. However the highlight of my camping came when I met Kyle (left) and his group from Barrie. Just take a look at this character (RIP those sunglasses, which fell into a porta-potty minutes after this picture).

Food
No matter your dietary restrictions or desires there was something for you. Poutines aplenty placated, staples like Pizza Pizza and Beaver Tails satisfied, while dozens of other delicacies tickled your taste buds. I had a wicked good (but ultimately bad choice due to time spent in the porta-potties afterwards) spicy chorizo burrito. However the most talked about foodstuff was The Colossal Onion, but beware it's not for the faint of heart, I barely made a dent in mine even though it was sinfully scrumptious.

Interview with Biz Davis

Earlier this week I spoke with Biz Davis, who's had his hand in several different jobs through his nearly two decade long "odyssey" in the music business, including his current role as manager for BADLQQK. In anticipation of his set for My Mixtape, this Friday at 11 PM EDT, I bent his ear for nearly a half hour. Through these dozen or so interviews, I've had the pleasure of speaking to several smart and well spoken people, but Biz's grand perspective may have been the most enlightening. Stream below.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Adventure Club ft. SONDAR - Breathe (Indiginis Remix)

I've been a fan of Indiginis ever since I heard their collab with Blu J, "Hallucinating" last summer. I later wrote about their undeniably cool take on Missy Elliott's "GET UR FREAK ON," here. Since then they've gone on to release 3 new productions in less than 2 weeks, an original in "A Love Lost" and two remixes. The most recent of those remixes is of Adventure Club's "Breathe," transformed in typical Indiginis fashion. Their tunes always strike me as if produced in a jazz club of the future, the groove always guides the cool action amidst sneakily strong percussion and deliriously delightful chords. You'll be hard pressed to find any other artists able to craft such quality, especially with the type of consistency as Indiginis. You'll even note the majority of their releases are available for free download.Hear the latest from Indiginis on tonight's all new episode of Bump In The Hump. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Jay Z - PSA (Marco Marz Bootleg)

As teased in interview, Marco Marz released his Jay-Z "Public Service Announcement" bootleg this Monday. Obviously the promise of working with Hova's flows is appealing in itself, but it's the perfect fit with Marco's G-House style. He absolutely nails the retro vibes, building a thorough bass thump and simple yet precise percussion that plays perfectly with the piano. To top it all off, the spinbacks and other effects give the 2003 track a final polish. D/L it free & catch it tonight on Bump In The Hump. Marco Marz is surrounded by more thumping house, including BADLQQK brothers RYME, as well as Tiga, Smalltown DJs, Jerome Robins, and Kavi Indatissa with a remix of "In Da Club." Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Jacques Greene - To Say

This past Friday Jacques Greene released his much anticipated album Feel Infinite on LuckyMe Records. The veteran DJ and producer is no stranger to incredible original productions, with tracks like "These Days" garnering strong support from Annie Mac and others. And while he's been relatively quiet release-wise, it's almost assuredly a result of an intense focus on Feel Infinite. A focus that shines bright throughout the cohesive and emotive album, as each track has been clearly polished beyond compare, playing its role perfectly in the opus that is Feel Infinite. While you can call his tracks house, I find it hard to accept it as just that. Ever since I first heard, the Will Ferrell from Old School aided track, "I Like You" I've had a hard time quantifying Greene's releases. They are quite simply quality, thoughtful and supremely designed electronic productions. Just damn good music, regardless of genre.After having already heard both "You Can't Deny" and "Afterglow" on Bump In The Hump, it's my pleasure to be able to play yet another cut from Feel Infinite tonight, "To Say." You can also see Jacques Greene as he returns home to Toronto at the tail end of his tour, April 15th at Velvet Underground (RSVP and Tickets). "To Say" isn't the only Friday release that gets a spin on Bump In The Hump tonight, I've also got a track from BADLQQK's RQQKIES 2. Nor is Feel Infinite the only new album represented, as I've got a track from Honey Beard's debut Dreamless Sleep, out this Friday. Third release from Future Magic in a week and a half. Another sensational production, playing beautifully with vocals, getting all emotional with wicked future bass synths, and those drum fills. Wow.

Gumball - Color Coded*
My kind of adventurous blend of future bass with other seemingly conflicting subgenres. Big triumphant arcs, perfectly placed effects and sublime vocal work. Super smart production.

Kehlani - Gangsta (Parker Remix)
Beautiful bed for Kehlani's vocals that's at once heartening while also ominous in its delivery. Doesn't seem to be any slowing this one down. Good strong G vibes working with the lyrics brilliantly.

AC Slater & Taiki Nulight - Super Doopah Legend
Another stellar, shot-in-the-arm kind of track from Night Bass boss AC Slater. There's no knowing what this track is doing or where its going. Twisty-turny and full of surprises.

Stooki Sound ft. Latroit & Lliam Taylor - Echos (R3LL Remix)
Gotta have me some jersey club for my weekend, and not many do it as well as R3LL. Full of feels but also bouncy as all hell. Plenty of pump up in this one.

Alison Wonderland & Lido - Messiah (Havok Roth & Kayoh Remix)*
First I need to say that Lido's mix is another instant classic, and early choice for remix of the year. That being said this remix is stupid good. Like five minutes of soaring fire. GOLD!

JayKode - Roll Out
Even though you can feel the bass coming right from the get go, there's no being prepared for the waves of tweaking electro that lies ahead. Add a little ivory tickling & you've got one bad-ass banger.

LigOne x Holly - Lazy Social*
Somehow this one snuck into the my feed despite being 4 months old. But it's LigOne and Holly so it's damn good. Oozes with originality as expected. A little laidback, but groovy as all hell.

Dex - Images (edit)*
Ridiculously wicked and wild Tchami-like sound design. Haven't heard house done like this in a while, and its got everything I want. Groove, piano, vocals and a menacing bassline. Love it.

Juke Ellington - Sexual Healing*
Vocals, drums and energy all so on point. Even with the onslaught of future bass at the moment, this one still sounds fresh as anything. A beautiful banger, no doubt.

Jetique - Love On My Mind (ft. Terri B!)
Lead by beautiful vocals, this is deep house at its best. Instantly commands your attention, delivering a divine groove, demanding you dance. Transforms all listening spaces into the coolest of clubs.

Anamanaguchi ft. Hatsune Miku - Miku (Carpainter Remix)*
Pure pleasure pop. Couldn't be any more bubbly or brilliant. Feels like you're floating in an 8-bit version of outer space, soaring above all cares and worries. Unapologetic easy listening.

Childish Gambino - Do Ya Like (Mark Melgo Remix)*
Warm weather is right around the corner and I'm looking forward to listening to more music like this, rounding out all day dance sessions, spinning in the summer breeze. Good vibes all around.
