Grandtheft on Diplo & Friends (Jan 29, 2017)

At the end of January Grandtheft graced Diplo and Friends for another guest mix, just over a year since he made his last appearance on, arguably one of the best mixshows in the world (a set I also covered here). A lot has happened since last year, but we can still count on Grandtheft to deliver a dope mix with a bunch of new and forthcoming records as well as his trademark edits.Just in the first 10 minutes we're treated to a slew of genres and styles, all mixed together not just in a fluid manner, but almost so as to tell a story. From the rap intro of "Pull Up Hop Out" and "Gang With Me" to house with "Prophecy," "Rude Boy," and "Devotion" mixed with the vocals of "House Work," Grandtheft shows off his mixing chops beautifully. But for me the way he goes from his collab with Sleepy Tom to the instant singalong of Mr. Fuzz's "Bel Air" is what really gets me. And that's only the first 10 minutes.

Things then get more clubbed out as he hits up Jersey, before heading back to the 6ix with "Fake Love" followed by his "Heroes x Feel It" edit and Shaun Frank flip of "Easy Go." And while this is a really nice touchy feely section. it quickly devolves into too turnt trap with back to back Slumberjack, followed by Ekali and KRANE then his gritty "Waiting x Keep It 100" smash edit.

As if that weren't enough, we get a glimpse of his remix of "Let You Get Away" (hopefully forthcoming) returning the favour for Shaun Frank. Then it's more of the dudes Keys N Krates and their KRANE collab, followed by two more fire edits. Like really, who doesn't love the vocals to "In For The Kill." But still we're not even close to being done.

One of the things that makes Grandtheft so great is his ear for new talent and willingness to support it. His last Diplo & Friends mix introduced me to Dom Dias, who has become one of the most played artists on Bump In The Hump and made one of the most musically sound sets for My Mixtape. This time I notice Grandtheft has gone to the west coast to feature Juelz and while he's not new to me, I still feel he's incredibly underrated. His "Whine & Kotch" is fire and works perfectly with Grandtheft's set, but it's only one of many dope releases under his belt.

Of course the way the mix is rounded up further shows off Grantheft's expertise. He goes back to back with two of my favourite tracks of 2016 Jackal's "Ice" and San Holo's "Light" before letting us down gently with Francis and The Lights "Friends." Of course having Kanye doesn't hurt, but it is the combination of Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat that really seals it for me. This kind is the kind of quality I've come to expect from Grandtheft, and truly I've never been let down. Both live and pre-recorded the man is something to behold. Enjoy the stream above and check out the tracklist here.

Best Tracks I Heard This Week

With this busy week of seeing Booka Shade and Grandtheft, and their openers Doorly and Pusher, respectively, I've been inundated with great tunes. Add to that the plethora of productions I hear on a regular day and I've got more music than I can handle. So I figured I'd throw together a playlist in honour of the massive week of music I've come across, or at least the ones on soundcloud. Enjoy!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Tiga - Make Me Fall In Love (Benny Benassi Remix)

Months ago I professed my love for Prosumer's Mysti Remix of Tiga's track "Make Me Fall In Love" (read it here) now another legend in the music scene has added his touch to the already awesome Tiga track. It's with great pleasure that I'll be able to play perhaps the single most influential producer in my life, on Bump In The Hump. There's very little that, Benny Benassi hasn't accomplished in the world of electronic music, save for working with Canadian culture icon Tiga, that is until now. Benny brings his signature brand of Benassi bass and Italian intuition, to this mix, now available on Spinnin' Deep. It's everything you could possibly expect from two of the most prolific producers of this generation. Tune in to 96.9 FM Radio Humber live tonight from 6-7 to hear this alongside more of the best new Canadian electronic music on Bump In The Hump, including brand new Grandtheft & TroyBoi, Jackal, Vincent, Stephen Walking, and exclusive premieres from Honey Beard, ZaGa and 404!

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Autoerotique & Hunter Siegel - OTF

Back in November, Autoerotique joined Hunter Siegel on the decks for a surprise B2B at one of The Hoxton's infamous No Neon nights, this time featuring Ghastly and Dr. Fresch. That night I caught two forthcoming collaborations, Dr. Fresch & Jackal's "Netflix N Kill," and the highly anticipated AutoerotiqueHunter Siegel "OTF." In fact they are they only two videos of mine to have surpassed 1000 views. Watch Dr. Fresch drop "Netflix N Kill" here, and watch Hunter debut "OTF," below.
While the time has finally come for OTF's official release. Dropped Monday on Fly Eye Records, it's my pleasure to finally be able to play one of the biggest collaborations both of the summer and in Canadian electronic music history. Tune in live tonight from 6-7 to hear "OTF" alongside more of the best new Canadian electronic music only on Bump In The Hump on Radio Humber. Until then enjoy the full stream of "OTF" on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud, below.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Jackal x Dr. Fresch - Netflix N Kill

After months of teasing it in live sets, the Jackal and Dr. Fresch collaboration, "Netflix N Kill" has finally been released, and will be premiered on this week's episode of Bump In The Hump on Radio Humber. After hearing it for the first time during one of Hunter Siegel's now infamous No Neon parties, I've been anxiously awaiting the inevitable annihilation of "Netflix N Kill." I was lucky enough to capture a video of Dr. Fresch dropping it amidst his utterly insane set from the aforementioned No Neon night.

Jackal - Carbomb (ATLiens & Quix Remix)

Jackal's "Carbomb" has received a twisted, turnt and trapped out remix courtesy ATLiens and QUIX.
Known for his bass blasting trap productions, Jackal's original "Carbomb" has accrued nearly 400,000 plays on his soundcloud alone, and has no doubt been booming on stereo systems for months. His broken speaker vibes have been rebooted and tweaked by two more trap kings, ATLiens and QUIX, adding to the already high intensity. The addition of the ticking clock ups the anticipation and fear of the immanent explosion of sound. Screeching synths evoke the feeling of being suspended and trapped in a a war-zone, dodging shockwaves and shrapnel, in a time slowed Matrix-esque fashion. The frightfully tuned percussion is the perfect cap that drives this nuclear wasteland of a track. Pick up your free copy of the track now.

#NoNeon w/ Hunter Siegel, Ghastly & Dr. Fresch (Review)

Last night Hunter Siegel, and his final #NoNeon party of the year, shook the Hoxton to it's core and nearly brought it to its knees. I've never seen the Hoxton so busy so early, there was a massive line from as early as 11 and by the time I got in at 11:30 the club was already packed back to the door. I'm glad I arrived early because I'm sure the line was never better than the half hour I waited, and to my surprise Hunter took the stage right at midnight. Which apparently he does most of the time (although not at the last #NoNeon).
Regardless what time he went on you had to know, Emperor Palpatine, the Lord of DarkPLUR was going to deliver. Yesterday I speculated that there might be some B2B action, a live performance from Delaney Jane, or some new Hunter Siegel productions. Well, I was about half right, there was no B2B, and neither did Delaney Jane sing live, but she was there side by side with Hunter when he dropped "Still Waiting," as was Autoerotique who joined Hunter onstage when he dropped LYAOF. Best of all Hunter premiered his new collab with Autoerotique, video of which you can watch below.

Keys N Krates - Midnite Mass Tour & U Already Know

If you've been keeping up with Keys N Krates on Facebook/Snapchat/Twitter/etc you've probably already heard this track as a work in progress, but today they've given it a title and full upload on Soundcloud, "U Already Know" (give it a listen after the break). They've had an absolutely massive year literally playing all over the world, releasing an album's worth of music and garnered countless remixes, but today may have been their biggest yet this year. They've just released a new tour schedule seen on the right and you can expect each and every one of the shows to be absolutely fire. The electronic trio from Toronto never disappoint and always bring their infectious energy. The seem to have outdone themselves this time, teaming up with an amazing collections of artists as the travel all over North America. Hermitude has hit it big lately, first gaining the attention of ravers through Flume's groundbreaking remix of "Hyperparadise," but they've really come into their own with their enigmatic original, "The Buzz." Hermitude is not the only duo that will be joining KNK on their epic journey, Stooki Sound will be supporting the boys on a number of stops. Londoners, Stooki Sound are best known for their many collabs with the likes of Mr Carmack, Mura Masa, and massive up man of the moment, Troyboi. After just a few listens it's clear why KNK asked these two to join them on tour. No doubt the crowd will be getting down in epic fashion. The trio is also joined by amazing solo acts Jesse Slayer and GANZ, who was meant to play at their birthday party this summer but had to cancel because of complications at the border. Slayter has been on fire as of late, supporting other Canadian talents Sleepy Tom with his remix of "Pusher," and Jackal's "Chinchilla," but his latest, might be his greatest, a scorching remix of Hoodboi and Lido's "Palm Reader." GANZ has also had a year to remember, first with his debut EP "Dino War," his re-remix of Flume and Hermitude "Hyperparadise," and his amazing work with Alison Wonderland, including his flip of "I Want U."  I've got nothing but high expectations that I'm positive these guys can live up to. Midnite Mass is sure to be a massive success and sure to sell out nearly everywhere. I highly suggest you grab your tickets ASAP.
