Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Sophia Bel - No More (Durante Remix)

As we continue to cruise towards summer, Bump In The Hump has one more extended episode before we once again cede the final ten minutes to a My Mixtape interview. Just as we did last week, we showcase all but the kitchen sink as we glide through genres.

Following a deep, funky opening, our hands get raised in the air as we take in truly euphoric stuff from Nathan Micay and Pat Lok. And while I love those two tunes, they pale in comparison to Durante's radiant, resplendent take on Sophia Bel's breathtaking "No More." Instantly buoying, the remix features a plethora of percussion and, of course, Miss Bel's beatific vocals. However, the real hook of "No More," the one that keeps me coming back, and solidifies its spot as one of my favourite productions of the year, is the sublime, strident chord structure. It's hard not to be repetitive with words like resplendent, buoyant and euphoric when describing music, but there's no denying the resonance of those adjectives with this track. At low volumes, "No More" tickles the senses. When turned up, it sends you soaring, powered by PLUR. Enlightened Listening for April 23

Another week brings another edition of Enlightened Listening. It seems the theme this week is breaks, as the first five releases feature said percussion prominently. More drum mastery follows as Squarepusher and Pusher blast off brilliantly. A bit of reset occurs in the middle as The Chemical Brothers wow with epic single, "The Darkness That You Fear." Riding that reset, a couple exceptional EPs follow as Amtrac & The Juan Maclean combine for Grit and Recondite delivers Bird to Afterlife. Turning to house, Vibrancy shares their sensational second edition of the Exhibits compilation series. Bringing in a bit of soul, Shift K3Y & Tinashe propel the playlist into divine disco vibes from Horse Meat Disco and Prins Thomas. Finally, we close with a gorgeous, groovy joint from Great Good Fine Ok. Stream the weekly new music playlist below, and find each individual release linked at the bottom.

Enlightened Listening for December 4

It's the tenth and final Bandcamp day of 2020, and once again they're waving their revenue share until midnight PST. Below I've cataloged (alphabetically) 16 new releases as part of this all Bandcamp edition of Enlightened Listening. Of course, I'm recommending this entire eclectic collection of releases, but I'll briefly showcase a select few next.

Leading the way, akaMatisse, the keys of Keys N Krates, launches his first solo release in fabulous fashion - perfect for a rainy or snowy day. Following right behind that, TEED stays hot with a wicked groovy remix of Darkstar. Further down the list, we find one of my most anticipated releases of the year in Kotek's Sonoglyph Pt. 2, which further illustrates his inimitable talent and approach. Staying with top-notch Canadians, Nathan Micay's mark on the new HBO show Industry is indelible as he's scored the soundtrack, and it's out now on LuckyMe. Immediately after that is the title track from OAKK's forthcoming EP WAARP, which drops in full on December 11th. Finally, Zeds Dead deliver 10 'new' tracks from their vaults (originally made sometime between 2008/9).

Enlightened Listening for May 15

Another week has passed and so it's time for another edition of Enlightened Listening. I'm gonna keep things relatively short and sweet this week, so read into the playlist in the following paragraphs or just listen at your leisure below. Have a great weekend, enjoy and stay sane!

Albums from Moby and Nathan Micay open the playlist, each ingenious in their own right. A couple EP pairings follow as Anjunadeep and Speicher deliver the kind of quality one can expect from the legendary labels. Mind Against then break the ice on a number of forthcoming remixes of Dominik Eulberg's Mannigfaltig. A quartet of larger EPs follow that remix as the playlist straddles the house/techno boundary. My favourite from each of the four, respectively: "Maranta," "Echoes From Beyond," "Red South" and  "Les Gens."

The back half of the playlist opens with the 3rd version of what was Hunter Siegel's house hit "Waiting Up," now updated to better fit HNTR's techno turn. Another ingenious revision follows that as Four Tet puts his inimitable touch, and a peak time touch at that, on Caribou's brilliant "Never Come Back." The whole playlist turns on its head with the next track, "Arch Enemy" from the fabulous Everything Everything. Even funkier, the final three releases from The Phenomenal Handclap Band (with an incredible album), Pat Lok and The Magician will have you dancing all the way through the weekend.

Jacques Greene ft. Rochelle Jordan - Let Go (Big Miz Remix)

After getting two tastes of the forthcoming deluxe version of Jacques Greene's Dawn Chorus in mid-December, LuckyMe Records has treated us to another mouthwatering morsel. Here Glasgow's Big Miz has remixed Rochelle Jordan led track "Let Go," leveraging the already ambrosial quality of Greene's craftwork into a more typical house affair. The new percussive leads are sublime and spine-tingling, setting the mood for this resplendent remix. Not quite as ethereal as the original, Big Miz is still able to keep much of the bewitching backdrop as he drives "Let Go" forward with the new, fat and rolling bass-line. It succeeds in making its listeners stand up straight, ears perked at each note, while also beckoning them to the dance-floor to move around in Greene's inimitable brand of magic. A true to the original, yet equally inspired and irradiant remix, find it now below and get the full deluxe edition of Dawn Chorus, with remixes from Lunice, Nathan Micay and others, January 31st via LuckyMe.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Polaris - Uncharted EP

Toronto DnB producer Polaris has had himself one heck of a first few months of 2019. He's already authored a single on the massive Sick Music 2019 compilation from the legendary Hospital Records, he then followed that with a wicked remix of Whiney's "Spheres" and this past Friday he released his debut EP, Uncharted. While visually and sonically indicative of Tron, which is quite literally a chart, each of the four tracks crackle with exceptional energy and an electronic allure, driving through a digital landscape.One of the tracks from Uncharted will find its way onto Bump In The Hump tonight, alongside a cut from Nathan Micay's Blue Spring, a couple exceptional mau5trap releases and two more top notch tracks from A-Trak and KRFW. We look ahead to thook's forthcoming NOISE LP and a weekend in which you can see Butrous, Ciel, Korea Town Acid and Barry Harris. Finally we close the night with a clip of my conversation with FUTURE MAGIC who returns to My Mixtape for a second all new hour this Saturday. Enlightenment Listening for May 3

May blooms bring a beautiful mixture of disco, house, trance and techno. This week's Enlightened Listening includes many of my favourites. Louis La Roche, Yuksek, Dombresky, warner case and Röyksopp get us started with some warm tunes and intoxicating dance numbers. Next up is the second such compilation from TOKiMONSTA's label Young Art Records with the likes of RYAN Playground, Soul Clap, L-Vis 1990, Robotaki and more.
