Jay xero - Doyouwannabemine?

The world could use a little more love in these trying times, and it seems to me that music is one of, if not, the best methods of delivery. It has the ability to inspire, uplift and bring people together. And that's exactly what I felt when I first pressed play on Jay xero's "Doyouwannabemine?" Sure love and inspiration are powerful ideas, and ones not to be taken lightly, but that's the brilliance of what Jay xero's done with this track. Opposing the deep dance groove are lighthearted lyrics that playfully propose, literally putting their love on the line. It even includes an allusion to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" after which Jay laughingly apologizes saying "it was worth it," and I tend to agree. There's just something so smooth and sublime about the easy going groove and bounce of this track, that I cannot help but feel some warmth in my heart. And just now as I make my way through my 7th or 8th listen, I'm reminded of The 2 Bears, particularly the breezy flow of their album Be Strong. Whatever the case, "Doyouwannabemine?" is a delightful distraction from our daily doldrums. Stream/purchase.FOLLOW JAY XERO: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

TroyBoi w/ Louis Futon & Slumberjack at Danforth Music Hall

After the unseasonably warm weather the last week or so, the fall shift has finally come. It's even rained for the first time in what seems like all of September (not a complaint). That being said, festival season and the excellent outdoor events that accompany it are all but over (although I'm sure there's several events for Nuit Blanche tomorrow).  And this can only mean one thing, IT'S CLUB SEASON!

It'll be the first fall without our beloved Hoxton, but that just means more and more people will be turning to Velvet Underground and Danforth Music Hall to fill that gaping hole in our hearts. The first of seemingly dozens of can't miss autumn events comes tomorrow night when TroyBoi is set to tear down The Danforth as a part of his Left Is Right tour, in support of his debut album of the same name. Joining him on this stop are Philadelphian Louis Futon and Aussie duo Slumberjack.

Now you'll certainly be aware of Slumberjack if you follow this blog at all, as is the case with TroyBoi, who I've covered a couple times here, but Louis Futon is someone who's yet to find his way onto EFYE. But boy, is he quality and a fantastic fit for this lineup. Just a quick scan of his Soundcloud page shows serious success with powerful poppy productions like "Rewind" which just broke a million. Then there's his alarmingly awesome flip of THEY.'s "U RITE." But if big is what you desire, look no further than the phantasmagorical and feels ridden, future bass track "Wasted On You." First two are available free. While this is a TroyBoi headlining show, I'm actually most excited to see Slumberjack, who I've been waiting to see for several years, each time missing them for some stupid reason or another. After first discovering them through their brilliant bootleg of What So Not "Touched," I then became even more infatuated as they combined with Sable for "Sprinter," before dropping their sensational self-titled EP. And holy crap is "Horus" still hellaciously good. Then they got deliriously deep and emotional with "Open Fire" (as covered here), while still showing some brain battering bass abilities with their "Scary" good remix of Stormzy (once again covered here). Since then they've really taken off with the fiery EP Fracture. So while I'm not sure what to expect from their set, I cannot wait to take it all in.Now for the main course. As if the 11 tracks above weren't enough, how about an epic 20 track album? Yes, that's right. TroyBoi's debut is that big. I mean the man was able to get Ice Cube on a track, so yeah, it's pretty clear this man is making waves. The lead track even puts it more explicitly, as "Bitch I'm Awesome." So if bass bangin', booty swangin' beats are what you desire then TroyBoi is just for you. And you know what? I could list a dozen or more remixes and originals that would solidify this sentiment, but you might as well just start with the single release that is succinctly his style. At last look, tickets were still available, but are said to be in short supply. There's usually some saved up at the box office for those keeners that show up early, but don't take my word as gospel. I'm just a fan, I serve no official capacity. So if you want to see a spectacular show, and why wouldn't you after all the awesome tunage above, check out the Facebook event here, and get direct link to tickets here.

Flux Pavilion - Bass Cannon (Matroda Remix)

The mere mention of "Bass Cannon" ought to get your juices flowing. Flux Pavilion's 2011 production remains one of the most revered bass tracks of any kind. That's why it works so well as the first edition of Matroda's Trilogy Of Bass. Of course he's not the first to try his hand at remixing the prolific production, but his take is a tremendous, booming success. He's taken the fire five minute dubstep deathstar and flipped it into a stomping bass house blitzkrieg. The bass remains as the primary element, and in this new format continues to crack off like crazy, while being whipped up with more consistent regularity as is demanded in house. But it's not just bass on bass on bass (because bass boosted mixes aren't the be all and end all). The original's success comes in large part thanks to the tickling tones and their play in and around the bass. They are the necessary yang to the yin of the dark low end. And Matroda's done a masterful job of repackaging and re-purposing them in this new "Bass Cannon" kick. Load up your playlist and prepare for war by downloading it free via The Artist Union, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more of Matroda's Trilogy Of Bass via his socials, all linked below.FOLLOW MATRODA: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Falcons - Diplo And Friends Mix

Let's cut right to the chase, I fuck with Falcons heavy. His style is strong, yet diverse, and his latest mix for EM Award winning radio show Diplo and Friends is the perfect example of the breadth of his beats and mixing mastery. There's tons of trap, big bass bangers, and some touchy feely groove grinders. And, being a man of so many talents and by no means a newcomer, he's got his hands on a multitude of mashups and onslaught of edits from his friends. Mr. Carmack makes multiple appearances, as well as Juelz and Graves, plus he's pushed the tempo with well over 30 tracks in the hour long mix.

Highlights for me include the always alluring Jesse Slayter mix of Hoodboi and Lido's "Palm Reader" which is magically mixed into Falcons' own "Want Your Body" before bodying us with Jarreau Vandal's "Redbone" flip. The fire hits "Fulltime" courtesy Juelz, ahead of "Aerosol Can" as refixed by Carmack, before becoming Falcons' "All Over Again" (presumably a forthcoming track). The Tony Quattro/Tropkillaz combination is quite the treat too. And then there's the always enjoyable Lazerpiff "Lose My Breath," paired with Carmack's King Kendrick "DNA" flip which then leads into TWO, Graves IDs. The whole thing will leave you saying "Woo" as he ends with his own remix of Rihanna and Travis Scott. Choose your streaming option below or download free here, and follow Falcons for more fire.
UPDATE: Falcons has posted the official tracklist here, indeed showing off several unreleased tracks.

Greg Wilson @ Glitterbox, Hï Ibiza (15.09.17)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love disco. Not just because it's where DJing started, nor merely as a result of it's light and fun nature, but also that it's efficient and reliable (a line I'm borrowing from Kyle Kinane, who last night claimed German Techno is not good music but rather reliable).

A disco groove is an easy one to fall into with its four on the floor backbone. It's always there and while each second may not be utter excitement, it's truly epic long-form dance music, the kind you can rely on whenever you need a pick me up. It can serve as a subtle background beat or a groove guaranteed to get you moving.

Now, I try not to focus too much on disco because there's just so much of it that I could tie up all my time sharing it, but as I'm busy preparing a new season of Bump In The Hump in between attending comedy shows for JFL42, I've decided to showcase a mix I just came across: the legendary Greg Wilson's live set at Glitterbox. It kicks off with a killer Chic sampler in Chewy Rubs "Future Freak," before getting deep with strings and things from First Choice with "Doctor Love." We might have to start calling Greg Wilson, Doctor Disco because the medicinal vibes continue with Dr Packer's rework of Oliver Cheatham tune "Friday's Enemy." The blessed beats continue to churn with Cordycep's "7 PM" and Babert's "Boogie Oogie." The fun filled hour then finds its finishing line with the majesty of Marshall Hain's "Dancing In The City." You too can dance (where ever you want), as the full mix is available for download, absolutely free here, and be sure to check out more of Mr. Wilson's work below.FOLLOW GREG WILSON: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Thool w/ Marieke - Je Sors (Cover of Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out)

The world of music is an endless, magical escape; it often leads me down rabbit holes from one track to another, via one artist, label or mix. In my previous post, I mentioned Boy 8-Bit's Beatport chart, which included an artist I was unfamiliar with, Bullion and his track "Blue Pedro." I've since been unable to escape the clutches of "Blue Pedro" and figured I better check out more of Bullion's back catalog. That's what lead me to his label DEEK Recordings, and their latest release, a compilation of covers entitled Covered In Gloria. And while it was already premiered over on Stamp The Wax, I couldn't help but shine further light on Thool and Marieke's cover of Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out."

The original 1982 version remains one of my favourite tracks, with its stunningly simple yet strong piano hooks, and unrelenting rhythm. There's a majesty in its metropolitan atmosphere, and an incredible pride in the bounding strides of the groove accented by bright, sparkling bells and an almost twinkling piano presence. It holds within it both the elements of Night And Day, there's something very personal and down to earth about "Steppin' Out," while there's no questioning the message's universal appeal and instrumental's ascending, uplifting aura. And that's where I begin with this cover.

Thool and Marieke's version starts in the stars with alien atmosphere coming out the wazoo. While the new synths wobbles may not be as immediately gripping as the original, they lay the foundation for a more restrained, yet equally revealing, expression of the emotions inherent in "Steppin' Out." Even Marieke's vocals, while never more than subtle, seem to ooze over the whole song, covering it with an ethereal sheen. The whole delivery seems better suited to a jazz club than before, showcasing smooth musicianship and smart production sense. While the bones of Joe Jackson's original remain intact, the surrounding tissue has been remodeled, but still in the same depiction of the human form. Find "Je Sors" as part of Covered In Gloria, and if that turns your crank I'll make one more suggestion: Raf Rundell (half of The 2 Bears) and his take on Sade's "By Your Side" via Extraordinary Renditions.

Charts and Recent Favourites

Charts can countdown the top tracks or they can quite simply be a collection of recommended tracks, a al Beatport. Everyone's done one, even Obama. Of course that means you can't possibly listen to all the tracks on everyone's chart, but like mixes, the DJs behind them can become trusted taste-makers. That being said, I've been inspired to make my own 'chart' or playlist of recent favourites after having enjoyed nearly all the tracks in Boy 8-Bit's aptly named Boy 8-Bit's "Want You" To Buy These Chart. Note that like his chart, it's not necessarily all brand new productions, but rather productions new to me.Not much to say about the tracks except that they are all super strong productions, generally on the more relaxed housy side. Just some good clean fun. Also note that the final three tracks are only available via Soundcloud's annoying GO feature, but I've linked them via Spotify below.

  1. Four Tet - Scientists
  2. Jim-E Stack - Deadstream
  3. Flight Facilities ft. Emma Louise - Arty Boy (Swindail Remix)
  4. Sébastien Léger - Model D
  5. Boy 8-Bit - Want You (Mason Remix)
  6. Tale Of Us & Vaal - Monument (Barnt Remix)
  7. D33J - Wisp (ft. Baths)
  8. Hercules & Love Affair ft. Sharon Van Etten - Omnion (Joe Goddard Remix)
  9. Joe Goddard - Home (Eric Kupper Remix)
  10. The xx - On Hold (Jamie xx Remix)

Krayysh - Running From Death

To say Krayysh has come on strong in the last few months would be an understatement. After essentially starting from scratch six months ago with "Underthinking Things," he's since released an official remix for Mat Zo and Kill The Noise then proceeded to break brains with the aptly titled 132.86 BPM track, "13286." He returned today with a wild and animalistic release on Mad Zoo. Apparently inspired a dream in which a demon chased him through a forest, "Running From Death" really does depict a chase scene that might fit perfectly in Baby Driver or whatever movie Tom Cruise is running in at the moment. However, I might argue that instead of a demon, it's producers that are chasing Krayysh in an effort to steal his creative juices. The energy is enough to make your brain explode or at least your chest heave involuntarily. But it's not just random dissonant destruction, it's actually quite ingeniously crafted. While the drums pummel, and the synths screech, Krayysh has woven a wicked connection that creates an incredible unease throughout. If you're not faint of heart, hit the the play button and prepare for raw power to haunt you at every turn. Stream below and download if you dare here.FOLLOW KRAYYSH: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Mura Masa ft. Desiigner - All Around The World (Sega Bodega Remix ft. Chynna)

One of my favourite tracks of the year, Mura Masa's "All Around The World," has already received several sublime remixes but the latest, from Sega Bodega, may take the cake. You might not expect plucked strings to play perfectly with Desiigner's growls, but holy hell, do they ever. And it's anything but diabolical, Sega Bodega's handed this down from the heavens. It's aura is awesome and uplifting as it floats along effortlessly. Even Chynna's additional efforts seem straight from the soul. It feels like you're walking on air, or even better, bounding like The Police "Walking On The Moon." Even the most electric and man made sounds soar towards the sky. Remixing "All Around The World" may be a lofty task ,but Sega Bodega's more than up to it. Stream below, and acquire it from your favourite retailer here.

Kendrick Lamar - Humble (Skrillex Remix)

Kendrick Lamar. Skrillex. Need I say more? I will, but like the remix I'll keep it simple. Short and sweet. Yeah, it's a banger, but it's not groundbreaking. It succeeds with strong sound design, the kind of stuff that makes artists around the world drool over Skrillex and his abilities. The simplicity reminds prospective producers that you don't have to hit hard every single second, letting a sound breath can be just as impactful as an onslaught or explosion of effects. Despite its 2:36 run-time, there's a ton of movement and progression. Best believe the instrumental would be as enticing as this version. It's quality through and through, and perhaps best used as a VIP flip with the original. That's the kind of action that would set heads on fire just like the album art. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: WHIPPED CREAM - Persistence

WHIPPED CREAM has become a mainstay on Bump In The Hump, going back more than two years through her extensive library of brain battering bass tracks. Her drive, passion, intensity and integrity are treat in an age where cookie cutter tracks, DJ posturing and ghost producing are more prevalent than ever. She truly is a breath of fresh air even though her tracks are often, and quite literally, suffocating. And while I hate to even address it as an issue, she's done all this while fighting sexist and downright stupid attacks on her abilities. With that being said, her latest release, an EP on NEST HQ, tackles that very subject through her Persistence. Tonight I'll be bringing you the lead and title track, which you can find for free via ToneDen here, along with the other two tracks "Ignorant" and "Selfish."As you may have seen, tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump will be the last of its kind. What that means exactly has yet to be determined, but changes are coming to at least one of the 5 Ws. Regardless, tonight's episode will continue as planned, I'll be bringing you the best new Canadian electronic music, whether its old or new disco, deep house, and all kind of bass, future or otherwise. There's some of my favourite artists including Fahjah, Pat Lok, Future Magic, CRaymak and Thook. I also spin some big names with Death From Above and a Stint produced track from Jessie Ware. All that and more live tonight on Radio Humber from 6-7 PM EDT, here.

Missy Elliott - She's A Bitch (MikeQ Remix)

The internet was alight last night with a lot of people talking about Missy Elliott's performance at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. Of course the honour was well deserved for Missy, who's proven that she's still got it. The "lil chubby chick from VA" continues to hustle hard, and I believe it's safe to say she is an inspiration to many. Further to that point, her music has inspired an endless onslaught of remixes, the most recent release coming from MikeQ. His take on "She's A Bitch" was actually made last year, but we can thank Missy's performance for this ballroom vogue flip finally seeing the light of day.

Now, I've previously written about MikeQ here, so perhaps you're already familiar with his work, and while this comes in the same vein as much of his catalog, the symbiosis between the two is truly a treat for the ears. Apparent immediately from Missy's shout out to Mike, the track ceases to be one artist's take on another, it's become a track worthy of standing on its own. While club music isn't necessarily supposed to be smooth or polished (and I'm not really sure this is), it certainly has a velvety feel. Of course it's more tuned towards the club via MikeQ's demanding dance disposition. Finally, as I was writing this piece I saw that DJ Jayhood, the man behind the Jersey Club flip of "She's A Bitch" that Missy used in her performance last night, uploaded that very track. See both brilliant bootlegs below.FOLLOW MISSY ELLIOTT: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

A$AP Rocky - Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 (Y2K Remix)

Self proclaimed "professional sellout," Y2K has finally made good on his tweet from July, claiming that he was almost done remixing A$AP Rocky's "Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2." Months later it's finally out, and as you might expect it's full on flames. Of course the original oozed with atmosphere, particularly through its scorching synths, but this new bent from Y2K brings bigger bass and more often at that. In typical Y2K style, he's also added effects throughout, including beepers, loons and subtle sirens. While the flow and arc of the original remains mostly intact, Y2K has indeed pushed this mix further towards the dancefloor with a rise and release of tension, culminating at about 1:50. Andrea Martin Sings "Magnet" Live

At the beginning of July, Toddla T dropped a masterful piece of production and vivacious vocal work. Of course I'm talking about his collab with Andrea Martin, "Magnet." From his album Foreign Light, it became an easy stand out for me, not just because of the righteous rave line, but because of the way it works with Andrea Martin's emotionally charged vocals. However, I've now realized that I can enjoy the track just as much when it's almost exclusively Andrea. How you ask? Press play and find out.
I cannot help but be starstruck by her incredible delivery. Everything about it screams perfection even though there is no such thing as perfection. She's clearly channeling something and it's absolutely striking to take in. I'm reminded of her track with Switch "I Still Love You," which if I remember correctly was touted as having been recorded in one take, in Switch's kitchen at that. That same raw emotion and feeling comes here in "Magnet," once again proving that baring it all, especially vocally, can result in absolute magic. Stream the original mix below and bask in the brilliance of Andrea Martin.

Twerk titans Wuki and Benzi have teamed up to bring you a wild, brain battering bootleg. As much as that vengabeat might have you searching for the skip button, hold off and you'll be rewarded when Wiwek and FlipN'Gawd make an appearance. KRANE - Nobody But You

Maybe you know him from his incredibly successful sample packs, or perhaps his epic output in the past 3 years. No matter what, it's highly unlikely that you haven't heard of KRANE. I first came across him with the utterly ingenious "Dollar Sines," and have since fallen for his work with Alexander Lewis, Keys N Krates, Ekali and others. Aside from his incredible originals and rigorous remix catalog, he's also become known for giving away free bootlegs, the latest a 13 track mix of mashups, edits and rejected remixes. So yeah, I think we've sufficiently established that this is man making waves, and churning out music at a maddening rate, which includes today with "Nobody But You."

Just one look at the album art and you should be able to grasp the time and space "Nobody But You" takes place. It's undeniably Blade Runner reminiscent, and almost Nero-esque in its essence. The connection to Nero continues in the soundscape KRANE's created with an enveloping atmosphere, driven by big bass drums and a perilous piano. There's a kind of danger to the delivery of this neo-noir future, especially as established with the wailing siren in second drop. Of course it includes KRANE's trademark rattling snare, and suffice it to say, it works perfectly in the explosive energy of this tech driven future landscape. Rounding out the track, and perhaps completing the story, is the vocal that not only gives the track a necessary human feel, but one that reminds me of Keys N Krates. It is the beacon of hope that the hero of this picture clings to. "Nobody But You" is the perfect combination of cold heartless technology and the human heart behind it. Enjoy it via your preferred service here.FOLLOW KRANE: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Bump In The Hump: September 13 (Season 6, Episode 20)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Kill Them With Colour - Diamonds ft. David Spekter

While Toronto's Wes Marsh may have been busy, it's been more than a year since his Kill Them With Colour released an original production. That letup ended this past Friday with the release of "Diamonds," driven by David Spekter on vocals. It's quite clear that KTWC has not lost his stride, forging a feels ridden synthesis of sounds that only intensify the already emotional, yet precise performance by Spekter. Listing all the elements combined here would be a tedious affair, but they all play a integral role in this flawless craft piece. It at once tickles with the cymbal work, while shaking your core with colossal, striding chords. Like it's namesake, this diamond is supremely strong. Stream it below, find the free download via ToneDen here, and catch it in the mix tonight on Bump In The Hump. After the heaviest episode to date, this hour takes a 180 going with a funkier, more feelsy, chill and contemplative vibe. Bassheads ought not worry however, there's hard stuff from 13, Krayysh and So Sus. I've got three tracks ahead of their respective releases, the latest from the likes of Lunice, Omar LinX and Tennyson, plus some future from WAVVY FROG, Lambo and Future Magic. Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Moji Bootleg)

Melbourne based duo Moji are rather new on the scene, but their bootlegs are making waves. Two months ago they dropped a dirty flip of Lil Jon's "Get Low." Now today they've done the same for Kanye West's "Love Lockdown." Both bootlegs bump the bass with a wicked grit, pushing polish to the side in favour of a feisty and almost barbaric burnish. It's perfect for Kanye who is the epitome of brash. His raw, in your face nature fits perfectly with the fat, IDGAF design Moji have made. I can only imagine the screw-faces this one would inspire in the club when the flatulent bass fires off. Download the full version free (only a sample below) from The Artist Union here, and be on the lookout for more Moji.

Autograf - Sleepless In NYC

Chicago based trio Autograf have a new single out on Armada Deep. "Sleepless In NYC" is the latest in a long line of original productions, following their explosive entrance on the scene with endless exceptional remixes. They've really honed and solidified their sound, keeping the cool atmosphere of a smokey club. Their synths always invoke the feeling of floating, as their productions pluck along with an incredible ease. Whereas their more recent productions "Simple" and "You Might Be" are built on a bigger bass and a foundation of funk, "Sleepless In NYC" turns to a more tropical feel. It's rather dreamy as the vocals dotingly dance along the deep waves of production. It's a chill turn from a cool trio that is sure to send shivers down your spine. China Crisis - Working With Fire And Steel

A week ago today, the internet mourned the loss of Walter Becker. Having played a part in both Steely Dan and China Crisis, his impact was immeasurable. Like many others, I found myself digging through the back catalog of both brilliant bands, and was reminded of the new wave wonderment that is the lead, and title track, "Working With Fire And Steel." Released in 1983, it is quite possibly my favourite China Crisis cut, and that's saying something, since their synthpop laden library is full of fun numbers.

"Working With Fire And Steel" is a wicked wall of sound, with punchy, fun drum fills and a fabulously funky bass line. Leaving room for a sax solo and live, yet almost industrial instrumentation, it is exactly what I love about the 80s. Synths were just coming into their own and still felt new and exciting, and they were often mixed with a more typical rock band set up. Ever since I rediscovered this track, and so much of China Crisis' catalog, I've had trouble enjoying anything else. See if the same happens for you when you press play below, and be sure to check out more of their catalog, through Spotify here.

Lime - Unexpected Lovers (SanFranDisko Re-Edit)

Let's get this out of the way: I love disco. It's frivolous fun and sonic satisfaction. So today when I was looking for something I could really sink my teeth into, SanFranDisko's account appeared like a beam of light bursting through the dark clouds of dubstep. The man behind the music, DJ Paul Goodyear is somewhat of a legend, authoring over 200 tracks on Soundcloud alone, having built his repertoire for more than 30 years. Of the endless productions on his page I landed on his most recent remix, a twist on the Lime classic "Unexpected Lovers." It's got everything you need from a big time disco mix. It's epic in its 8 minute arc, with a groove that just won't quit, punchy percussion, and an oh so scintillating synth. It just reeks of energy and love through its bouncy and buoyant eurodance vibes. All this is made better by the fact it's available free and in WAV format. Download direct via Mediafire here, and be sure give SanFranDisko's account a long look because there's so much more music worth listening to.FOLLOW SANFRANDISKO: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Boy 8-Bit - Want You

There is no artist that I get more excited for a release from, nor move faster to the checkout in an online store from, than Boy 8-Bit. Most recently I've written about his remix for Biscits, here, and had the predecessor to this track, "Desirable," take the 18th position in my Top 100 Tracks of 2016 countdown. So it should come as no surprise that "Want You" has me dropping everything to share my enthusiasm for this latest piece of piano driven house from the brilliant one, Boy 8-Bit.

Right from the get-go we're greeted with the always awesome, and meticulously mastered percussion that Boy 8-Bit has become known for. It's crispy, crunchy, and all kinds of cool in its crafting, and better yet, it never stops progressing. Not bad for the backbone for the rest of this track. All that makes the first piano punch, and the fabulously fun groove that follows, even more effective. The core of Boy 8-Bit's productions always edge their way into your very essence. You cannot help but be moved at your most organic level. I think the best example of this is when the lead line transforms from piano to organ; pushing the groove into the pulpit, adding an angelic feel as though given directly from the gods.

However, and this is where I think things get complicated, there's a bit of a duality here in that electronic dance music has been seen as the devil's music (in part because of the stigma around 'raves' and the drug use/debauchery that comes with it). The organ has a bit of a "In A Gadda Da Vida" vibe to it, which always makes me think of the scene from The Simpsons (here). But back to Boy 8-Bit. As always, he is able to set up so many lines and loops that through their progressions play together perfectly, like a yin-yang. Each element comes together to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. At worst "Want You" is a track worthy of inclusion in your club sets, at best it's a brilliant reminder of the good and bad in this world, and their essential role in the fabric of reality. Baauer - GoGo! (Awoltalk Remix)

One of my favourite tracks of 2016 was Baauer's "GoGo!" You can always trust Harry Rodrigues to bring new and exciting sound designs to the genre he helped bring to the fore, that of course being trap. There's that incredible intro line to capture your consciousness, but then the bass and underlying banger nature take over. And that's where things really get going especially in this remix from Awoltalk.

Where the original has a bit of a sneaky, back loaded beat, this new version absolutely explodes. And it's not just a single boom, there's several aftershocks in a kind of raging ripple effect. Even the underlying bass, that occurs throughout, is amplified in its intensity. This is really the powder-keg at the core of Awoltalk's rework; he's transformed the almost analytical original into a full on street fight. It's as if the original is Ryu and Awoltalk's turn is Blanka. There's just an added electricity that I cannot get enough of. If that's also the case for you, be sure to pick up the free download via ToneDen, here.FOLLOW BAAUER: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Bump In The Hump: September 6 (Season 6, Episode 19)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Snails - Into The Light (ft. Sarah Hudson)

You know you've made it when you successfully coin your own genre name. That's the case with Vomitstep visionary, Snails. The Montreal maniac has been slinging the sub-bass sludge for years now and ought to be immediately identifiable to anyone who's spent anytime at bass music shows.

I first came across Snails and his sound when he collaborated with fellow Canadians Botnek on "KRMT," and could only describe that sound as guttural. It's incredibly visceral and absolutely intoxicating, perfect for losing your mind to in the middle of a mosh pit or an all out rager. Since then Snails has been building a cult-like following, fitting perfectly into the Kannibalen family and is now set to release his debut album, The Shell.

Accompanying the album he'll be taking a brand new stage show on tour across the continent (details here). There are dozens of stops including Toronto on December 29th (RSVP/Tickets), with several different artists joining him along the way. Again accompanying the album and tour is the release of lead single "Into The Light," featuring the vocals of Sarah Hudson. It's undoubtedly a Snails track, but repackaged in a new and exciting way. Stream it below, and click through to find the free download.Despite its name, this Snails track is decidedly dark, and fits perfectly into tonight's episode of Bump In The Hump. I've never done as much work on an episode as I have for this one, as I've had to mix a bunch of the tracks together in an effort to squeeze more sensational songs in. There's a deluge of dubstep, some diabolic deep house, badass DnB, and titanic trap. I've said it before, but this is truly the hardest and most banging episode of Bump In The Hump to date. Do not miss the madness with the live broadcast from 6-7 PM EDT on Radio Humber or stream after the fact via Mixcloud.

Fat Hamster - Ghosts In Tokyo

I'm not letting summer disappear that easily. I'm going to hold on to every ounce of warmth and freedom I can. That being said, I'm not ready to delve into the darker genres on Soundcloud just yet, so I'll be searching for summery tunes to write about, in hopes of maintaining some semblance of sanity. In a couple months when it's snowing and subzero all the time, I'll be out of my mind and looking for some bangers to rage to. Until then enjoy the ease of tunes like the following:"Ghosts In Tokyo" is the lead and title track from Korean producer Fat Hamster's latest EP, released Friday on his own label, Letz Ratz. Right off the bat we're greeted by waves of warm synths with a strong bass bounce undertow. The groove is strong yet sensual, never overpowering, just steadfast with its careful caress. There's a cinematic feel to the whole track, one that makes me think it perfect for its own anime, as a music video or intro theme song. Fat Hamster has filled it with progression, weaving a story in the lapping waves of ecstasy. The bridging bit in the middle (starting at 2:30ish), is my favourite aspect of "Ghosts In Tokyo." It's got a brilliant sheen to it, rebuilding the track with a more boisterous bass. This new rippling bass design furthers the imagery of a wave pool. As the thumping bass comes to a climax, the waves recede and all calm is restored. It's the kind of track you can kick off a party with just as easily as you could use it as you kick out all the guests ending the party or even the summer. Earth, Wind & Fire - September (Crooked By Madcrks)

Maybe you've been too busy enjoying your last long weekend of the summer to realize that the calendar has changed, but here we are in September. So why not celebrate with a genius Jersey Club flip of that classic Earth, Wind & Fire singalong of the same name, courtesy Filipino duo Madcrks.

There's no questioning the quality of the original 1978 cut, which still stands as one of the most soulful and funky pieces ever produced, and it's entirely understandable how it's spawned so many magnificent mixes over the years. The bass and drum work always inspire the most energetic and celebratory footwork, whether repacked as house or here in the rapid fire Jersey Club bounce.

Madcrks have put all of the incredible instrumentals to good use, tweaking and twerking the vocals and guitar riffs around bed squeaks and blazing fast bongos. Unlike some of the more basic Jersey Club flips, Madcrks have made this a musical masterpiece, constant swapping in and out elements and effects, making each second of "September" utterly enjoyable. After just a few listens, I find myself joining in with the added vocal effects, saying "God Damn." I just wish it was available for download. FOLLOW MADCRKS: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
