Enlightened Listening for February 8

Fridays never disappoint, but this one seems special with a number of my favourite names returning with new releases. Henrik The Artist once again puts on a clinic of unique quality. Paul Mond plays with our heart strings. Camo & Krooked kill it on UKF. Jake Robertz follows with a sick six track EP.  We then change gears for two, top-notch, uber-cool creations from Red Axes and ABSOLUTE.. Then comes MK with yet another inspired remix, which leads into a genius, jaw-dropping original from Haywyre. Finally, PINEO & LOEB drop the best cover album of the year in ELEVATION. Unfortunately due to weather, Humber has been shut down for the day, however I cannot just sit on my hands for a week while even more new music accumulates. So while I will not be going live with a new episode of Bump In The Hump, I will indeed be putting one out. Falcons - Diplo And Friends Mix

Let's cut right to the chase, I fuck with Falcons heavy. His style is strong, yet diverse, and his latest mix for EM Award winning radio show Diplo and Friends is the perfect example of the breadth of his beats and mixing mastery. There's tons of trap, big bass bangers, and some touchy feely groove grinders. And, being a man of so many talents and by no means a newcomer, he's got his hands on a multitude of mashups and onslaught of edits from his friends. Mr. Carmack makes multiple appearances, as well as Juelz and Graves, plus he's pushed the tempo with well over 30 tracks in the hour long mix.

Highlights for me include the always alluring Jesse Slayter mix of Hoodboi and Lido's "Palm Reader" which is magically mixed into Falcons' own "Want Your Body" before bodying us with Jarreau Vandal's "Redbone" flip. The fire hits "Fulltime" courtesy Juelz, ahead of "Aerosol Can" as refixed by Carmack, before becoming Falcons' "All Over Again" (presumably a forthcoming track). The Tony Quattro/Tropkillaz combination is quite the treat too. And then there's the always enjoyable Lazerpiff "Lose My Breath," paired with Carmack's King Kendrick "DNA" flip which then leads into TWO, Graves IDs. A-Trak & Jamie Lidell - We All Fall Down (STFU Remix)

For months now I've been beyond obsessed with A-Trak's latest original with Jamie Lidell, "We All Fall Down." The 4 mixes that came with the original, CID, Volt & State, Jarreau Vandal and Jamie's Version, were all stand outs. But when I heard a new version in his Mixmag Asia live set, I nearly died, overcome with hype. I downloaded the set, listened to it on repeat, and even ripped the version out of the set so that I didn't have to keep fast-forwarding to hear it over and over again. Last week, the man himself was posting more remixes to his twitter and soundcloud, but none of them were the version that I was so desperately waiting for, that is until yesterday when he dropped STFU (Stand Tall, Fists Up)'s version. I absolutely love the raw, cut-down styling that so perfectly utilizes Jamie Lidell's infectious vocals. I'm so excited that I'll be able to have a full 320 version that I can play out on repeat, and in my forthcoming radio shows. I've got to say that literally every version of the track I've heard is stellar. I think that speaks to the sheer genius that is A-Trak, true Canadian music royalty. Catch the bright and bubbly, Cory Enemy & Syre remix, as well as the much darker, trapped out Willy Joy version that is sure to turn any party into an all out rager. Those two mixes (and maybe more, unannounced versions) are set to join STFU's in another remix package due to be released this Friday the 11th.
