Silk City ft. Dua Lipa - Electricity (Leemz Bootleg)

Undeniably one of the most intoxicating pop productions of the last year, Silk City's Dua Lipa led Grammy winning single "Electricity" has received countless remixes including one from The Black Madonna, who hit the 34th spot in my year end countdown (here). Months after the original spark has subsided Jersey Club legend Leemz has brought his bounce and inimitable energy to the effusive "Electricity." The propulsive pressure of Leemz's lightning-in-a-bottle bootleg is immediately invigorating, sucking you in through the success of Silk City and Dua Lipa's lush delivery before becoming jacked up on a gallon of java. The drops are dizzying, almost disorienting, in their whirlwind of wild Jersey Club components, perfect for pushing any party into overdrive. It is this contrast of the sublime nature of the original and its smooth status in between drops that makes this such a rousing remix. Drake - In My Feelings (DJ Sliink x DJ Jayhood Jersey Mix)

While the internet was going wild with the #InMyFeelingsChallenge Jersey champions Sliink and Jayhood were busy bringing the bounce to Drake's delivery. Vibey, the Kiki cut gets kicked up a notch with thumping bass boosts and rapid-fire percussion. Sliink and Jayhood show off their genius with killer vocal chops, reworking them into an instrument of its own. Kaosic - Love Song

Sometimes you press play on a track, find that it feels familiar yet can't quite put your finger on why. That happened with this track from Miami's Kaosic. The vocals, which I eventually figured out were Selena Gomez, lead the track out with a dreamy mixture of trap, Jersey Club and just the right amount of kawaii chiptune feels. It happens all too often a pop song has broken into my consciousness without me knowing and this yet another case. Of course that means the lyrics and vocals were catchy, but most often the pop production leaves me wanting more or certainly something less standard. And this is where Kaosic comes in. Yes, I'm a fan of kawaii and Jersey Club, but this repackaging just speaks to me. It's not much more than a beat, but still a good beat that moves and grooves. The drums are the key, with the double tapping bass mimicking the heartbeat, while the rolling snares and subsequent fills keep the track moving along nicely. The stabbing synth at about 2:03 brings a good bounce that turns "Love Song" into a club tool. It's exactly the kind of subversive remake that I'd be happy to hear in a mix or just about any venue as a nice change of pace from the yawn producing original production.

Migos - Slippery (KAKU x Stevie G Remix)

Maybe I've missed it, but I'm not sure I've ever come across a Jersey Club flip of Migos. That is until today, with KAKU and Stevie G dropping their dopeness on "Slippery." We all know about Migos' massive impact in the last year plus, so it seems odd that I haven't heard any bed squeaking takes, especially since it seems their flow lends itself to this kind of club construction. In fact this may be my new favourite Jersey Club flip of the year. KAKU and Stevie G really put in some strong work, hitting on all cylinders. As always I look for progressive and playful drum work, which comes through in droves here. Also the syncopated synth and vocal chops, which here is more intoxicating than a shot of absinthe. Then there's the samples that simply satisfy, while demanding "watch me." And we haven't even talked about the drop yet. While it's nothing extraordinary, it's not really meant to be; it's just a lose your self to this while the whole club jumping kind of vibe. Can you tell I'm drooling over this one? Missy Elliott - She's A Bitch (MikeQ Remix)

The internet was alight last night with a lot of people talking about Missy Elliott's performance at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. Of course the honour was well deserved for Missy, who's proven that she's still got it. The "lil chubby chick from VA" continues to hustle hard, and I believe it's safe to say she is an inspiration to many. Further to that point, her music has inspired an endless onslaught of remixes, the most recent release coming from MikeQ. His take on "She's A Bitch" was actually made last year, but we can thank Missy's performance for this ballroom vogue flip finally seeing the light of day.

Now, I've previously written about MikeQ here, so perhaps you're already familiar with his work, and while this comes in the same vein as much of his catalog, the symbiosis between the two is truly a treat for the ears. Apparent immediately from Missy's shout out to Mike, the track ceases to be one artist's take on another, it's become a track worthy of standing on its own. While club music isn't necessarily supposed to be smooth or polished (and I'm not really sure this is), it certainly has a velvety feel. Of course it's more tuned towards the club via MikeQ's demanding dance disposition. Finally, as I was writing this piece I saw that DJ Jayhood, the man behind the Jersey Club flip of "She's A Bitch" that Missy used in her performance last night, uploaded that very track. Earth, Wind & Fire - September (Crooked By Madcrks)

Maybe you've been too busy enjoying your last long weekend of the summer to realize that the calendar has changed, but here we are in September. So why not celebrate with a genius Jersey Club flip of that classic Earth, Wind & Fire singalong of the same name, courtesy Filipino duo Madcrks.

There's no questioning the quality of the original 1978 cut, which still stands as one of the most soulful and funky pieces ever produced, and it's entirely understandable how it's spawned so many magnificent mixes over the years. The bass and drum work always inspire the most energetic and celebratory footwork, whether repacked as house or here in the rapid fire Jersey Club bounce.

Madcrks have put all of the incredible instrumentals to good use, tweaking and twerking the vocals and guitar riffs around bed squeaks and blazing fast bongos. Unlike some of the more basic Jersey Club flips, Madcrks have made this a musical masterpiece, constant swapping in and out elements and effects, making each second of "September" utterly enjoyable. Trippy Turtle Drops 2 Tracks and Announces Tour

Trippy Turtle (the Jersey Club moniker of choice for Lido) has made quite the splash in the last week, dropping original "Animal" last Wednesday, and a collab called "Lettuce" with Soulja Boy, yesterday. Adding to that he's just announced that he'll be heading on what he's calling the "Lettuce Turnip Tour." Starting August 1st in his homeland, he'll head through the UK, Germany, all across the states and end up in Toronto and Montreal, the first weekend of November. DJ Sliink Live from OWSLA Stage at Ultra 2017

As you'll know I'm a big fan of Jersey Club and that obviously extends to one of the biggest players in that scene, DJ Sliink. After finally seeing him live a few months ago, when Anna Lunoe brought him along on her Hyperhouse Tour, I've been dying to see him again. While there are still no Toronto dates announced, his recently posted set from Ultra Miami does more than suffice. It's got so much of the trademark bounce associated with Jersey Club, as well as the IDGAF party atmosphere. Whether it's new tracks like his TWRK collab, "Text Ya Number" featuring Fetty Wap, or club cuts of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," Masters At Work "Work," and "Panda" the mix is overflowing with energy. Even though this wasn't released when I wrote my "5 Must Have Sets from Ultra Miami 2017," it certainly would have warranted inclusion. Mary J. Blige - Family Affair (DJ Artist Remix)

Lately I've found myself getting back into Jersey Club, in part because of new releases from both DJ Sliink and Trippy Turtle. However, there are so many more artists in that vein worth listening to. Point in case: teenage producer DJ Artist. This past Tuesday, he dropped an absolutely unreal remix of the classic Dr. Dre produced, Mary J. Blige track "Family Affair." What makes this mix so good is Artist's use of the iconic strings riffs. He pairs them so perfectly with the percussion and the stabbing nature of Jersey Club. He's able to maintain so much of that delightful lick while upping the tempo and intensity, reworking "Family Affair" into an unholy club killer. It slaps you silly with all the additional effects and beats your brain into a pulp, bouncing relentlessly. It really has everything that I love about Jersey Club: sped up beats, DJ effects, incredible movement and snappy samples. Stream it below. Sliink Drops Jersey Club Remixes of Kanye West and Ariana Grande

Jersey Club king Sliink has finally dropped his Kanye West "Wolves" remix. Entitled "Love You" and featuring Gutta, the track was first heard last March in a guest mix he did for Thump (here). It's a classic Jersey Club cut with relentless bouncing, clapping percussion and old school rave vibes. His treatment of the vocals is as strong as ever, not only maintaining much of the integrity of the original, but commanding enough to have the dance floor in a full on frenzy. Like the lyrics the mix is "too wild," and you can pick it up completely free "right now" with a direct download here. Eleven minutes after sharing the Kanye flip, he uploaded his mix of the Cashmere Cat aided Ariana Grande track "Be My Baby." This too has been around for a while (here), although we're finally gifted with the full version. This one is crazy beautiful. From the get go, we're treated to an awesome display of vocal and percussion interplay. It really shows why Sliink is perhaps the premiere Jersey Club producer out there. From the bed squeaks to the drum fills and the vocal chops, everything is on point, proving impossible to avoid Sliink's pulsating power. "MY BAE" is also available for free download, here.With Trippy Turtle making a comeback earlier this week, remixing 50 Cent and Nate Dogg, it seems Jersey Club is back in the forefront.
