A-Trak - Hollerboard Redux Set

There's no debating A-Trak's spot on the Mount Rushmore of DJs. You could literally spend days, if not weeks, enjoying his wide range of sets and mixes. Back in October of 2015 he dropped his "Bloghaus Revival Mix," with the followup coming about about six months later, here. While he didn't directly reference the Erol Alkan forum, it no doubt played part in the track selection as a hub for electronic music aficionados from around 2007-2009. Last night he released a recording of a September 28th set in Philadelphia entitled "Hollerboard Redux Set."

As he mentions in the description, this Hollerboard Redux party arose from the message board of the same name, based around Diplo and Low Budget's Hollertronix parties. Before Soundcloud and EDM, it was message boards and forums like Erol Alkan's and Hollerboard where DJs and fans alike shared mashups and "lesser-known regional styles," bringing incredible creativity and experimentation to DJ sets. The result below, a mix of tracks from the Hollerboard Era and new songs with the same spirit, is one of the widest ranging sets you'll ever hear. Where else are you going to get Billy Joel pitted against A$AP Rocky & Skepta in the same hour as Justin Timberlake, Parliament, Bloc Party and Kraftwerk.
The back and forth in the mix is incredible. One minute you're popping off to Cajmere "Percolator" the next your gliding across the floor to A-Trak's ABBA aided "Voulez-Vous" or pumping up the jam before releasing the beast on Hall & Oates. That said, A-Trak's made all of those transitions fit together better than PB&J. Like Kid Sister's "Pro Nails," which he helped write, this mix is dressed to the nines, "toes done up with her finger nails matchin'." Just one look at the massive tracklist, almost as wide as it is tall, and you'll realize what kind of treat you're in for. It's some serious "Laffy Taffy" as A-Trak's journey is sure to leave your head spinning.

A$AP Rocky - Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 (Y2K Remix)

Self proclaimed "professional sellout," Y2K has finally made good on his tweet from July, claiming that he was almost done remixing A$AP Rocky's "Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2." Months later it's finally out, and as you might expect it's full on flames. Of course the original oozed with atmosphere, particularly through its scorching synths, but this new bent from Y2K brings bigger bass and more often at that. In typical Y2K style, he's also added effects throughout, including beepers, loons and subtle sirens. While the flow and arc of the original remains mostly intact, Y2K has indeed pushed this mix further towards the dancefloor with a rise and release of tension, culminating at about 1:50. Four reasons to see Mura Masa tonight at The Hoxton

#1. He'll be performing live, which means you'll be able to witness his musical and artistic abilities first hand. There's truly something special about live sets and the act of playing. It's not stale and stagnant, it's visceral and alive; you never know what's going to happen, what he's going to play and when. He'll certainly play his own hits, but he may also cover tracks like Major Lazer's "Lean On."

#2. His list of production credits is the stuff of dreams. He'll be able to play tracks like "Firefly" and "Lovesick Fuck" from his EP Someday Somewhere, "Lotus Eater" from Soundtrack To A Death, and the incredible single that took 2016 by storm, "What If I Go?"

#3. Considering the long list of vocalists and collaborators (Bonzai, Nao, Denai Moore, Jay Prince, and A$AP Rocky), he may just have a guest performer up his sleeve. I'm not saying A$AP Rocky is going to show up at The Hoxton tonight, but I fully expect Mura Masa to have a vocalist with him, especially given the fact that he's got a case of strep throat, and is "not saying much at these next few shows."

#4. His opening act, Michl, is fresh off the release of his debut self-named EP, which will serve as the perfect appetizer for the main course of Mura Masa. Stream the EP here, and whet your appetite below.

At last check, tickets were more than 90% sold out, but there are currently people selling on the facebook event, where you can also find the official ticketweb link. Because it's a Sunday show, be careful to remember the doors open at 9, not the usual 10. 2Pac - Changes (Shemce Remix)

Shemce is back with yet another amazing pop remix, carefully crafted for the club.
