Full, uncut interview with Colin Vlasak

Last week I had my friend and fellow blogger Colin Vlasak (aka ClassyVlassy) of FUXWITHIT in studio for another interview/conversation (find our first here). We chatted for more than an hour this time tackling a variety of issues, including: a big picture look back over the 4+ years of his blogging, the 'busting/burst EDM bubble', the rise of experimental bass in the wake of future bass, his article "Stop Supporting Bullshit," his advice to upcoming artists, what's next for FUXWITHIT and of course his episode of My Mixtape. Listen to our full uncut conversation below, and get his mix now here.FOLLOW FUXWITHIT: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Aerosmith, Boyce Avenue & Eminem - Dream On (Hyperclap Remix)

A cover, a remix, a mashup and more, all in one. Immediately identifiable, the riff made famous by Aerosmith in "Dream On" plays front and center in this one of a kind production. Combined by Berlin duo Hyperclap, the Boyce Avenue cover of "Dream On" and the Eminem track, that samples said riff, "Sing For The Moment" come together in the guise of a trap banger. It has everything: intoxicating nostalgia with the surefire sing-a-long; a progressive, banging drop; and a classic rap verse, wrapped around both acoustic chills and electric energy. That Hyperclap have figured out how to seamlessly transition through each of these elements is mind-blowing, only adding to the power of the already almighty lead line. There's no questioning this track's status as a club weapon. It may make you weep, it may make you scream, but no doubt it'll have you rocking out. X&G ft. josh pan - Gravity (Far & Few Remix)

Clean, meticulously crafted bass music seems to really be capturing attention at the moment, and perhaps one of the best offerings in the last couple years came when X&G combined forces with josh pan. Their dynamic powerhouse "Gravity" offers that at times sparse yet still crazy commanding chords with some of the darkest, most virile design. Repackaged by Far & Few this week, the track's cosmic force is hellaciously hot, burning brighter than a super nova. Its immense magnitude invokes utter powerlessness and sheer awe as the work of beings too big for our imaginations stir the interstellar soup. "Gravity" is violent and oppressive through sheer effectiveness in the delivery, not at all an intolerable wall of sound. Likely to rip a black hole on the dance floor, Far & Few once again deliver a smash success, one which you can acquire free via Hive here. Bump In The Hump: July 25 (Season 7, Episode 42)

Tracklist

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Stickybuds - Take A Stand

Sonic diversity is a point of pride on Bump In The Hump, so when an artist releases an album that includes funk, reggae, DnB, glitch hop and more, we pay attention. That's the case with Kelowna's Stickybuds and his debut full length Take A Stand. The theme of rebellion and the fight for freedom runs strong through the 9 track arc whether literally, through Burro Banton, Blackout JA, and Rubi Dan or figuratively, through the unwillingness to be nailed down to one genre. Get in on the uprising with Take A Stand via Westwood Recordings and catch a track on Bump In The Hump tonight from 7-9 EDT!Of course the diversity continues with disco, house, wave, bass, club, trap, midtempo, and more. But there's also another strong theme, that of exploration and discovery. Bump In The Hump rarely goes a week without debuting a new artist, but this week is chalk full. Eight Canadian producers grace the airwaves tonight, a night in which we get a clip of my conversation with Classy Vlassy who discusses Soundcloud and its importance for discovery ahead of his episode of My Mixtape.

FUXWITHIT co-founder Colin Vlasak and I chatted for more than an hour Monday night, talking all things electronic music, blogging and the underground, and so much more. Check back here for the final full cut of said conversation available before the mix Saturday. Until then catch two hours of new music live on Radio Humber from 7-9 PM EDT here or after the fact via Mixcloud here.

Nelson - Voyage

It's amazing what good cover art and a simple track name can do to draw my attention. Obviously a track like "Voyage" would feel cinematic, but this one ensnares you in its story. Apparently Nelson's first release, this track bursts to life warming the landscape like a sunrise. However this is no normal sunrise, it's a more powerful star than you've ever experienced, sending an alien power through its beams. This energy overthrowing your body and mind has you dizzy, seeing brilliant patterns and hearing previously unfelt frequencies. Life flashes before your eyes, forcing a violent rebirth. The "Voyage" comes quick and hard, in the best way a track can; not just magnitude of movement, but in design and delivery. The sounds sweep you off your feet and the precise progression is gripping. My only question is when's the next trip from Nelson due? Get "Voyage" free via The Artist Union, here.FOLLOW NELSON: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Fake Blood - Shogun

In late May Cheap Thrills, the curator of classics from Hervé, Jack Beats, Stanton Warriors and others, announced a new 10 track compilation in honour of their upcoming 10th anniversary. Before beginning to showcase any new content, they drew our attention with 10 of their greatest hits from their immense catalog in a compilation called FREE THRILLS. Although originally announced as being released July 6th (via Data Transmission here and UKF here), it seems there's been a snag as July 13th they tweeted "We're getting very close to announcing the main release..." Well that silence has since been broken, and doubly so, in that yesterday we got the first new Fake Blood release in years, "Shogun."

Created to recapture the classic rave vibes you'd heard in London, Fake Blood has gone back to signature bleepy, fidget house style combining shadowy intrigue, brilliant breakbeats and sensational synth pads. It stabs and slashes with Fake Blood's propensity for strange film samples, deserving of the title "Shogun." But best of all it is sonically sublime, pairing notes perfectly, achieving unparalleled accord and amicability in spite of its umbral atmopshere. No matter what Fake Blood track you want to choose, I can find for you transcendent sound design; my favourite however comes from the aforementioned FREE THRILLS, "Voices." It is this contrasting acerbity and attractiveness coming at the second drop (3:30 in "Voices") that melts my heart and has me falling in love with music once again. I had almost given up hope that Fake Blood would return, and I'm on the verge of gushing further, so I'll stop here, as we look forward to more from the forthcoming release of 10 Years Of Cheap Thrills.FOLLOW FAKE BLOOD: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

H4RDY - DESTRUCT

Seoul-based upstart H4RDY unleashed hell with his latest Fad Blava release "DESTRUCT." Mechanical madness, this coin-operated killing machine clicks, clacks and smacks you silly with dark wobs, militaristic snares and apocalyptic atmosphere. Never offering up much of a groove this plodding yet potent piece succeeds primarily through pernicious percussion and sinister sound design. It is utterly devoid of any human heart or life, the closest coming in the form of creepy, guttural growls and grunts. Harrowing and hellacious, add this heater to you set and watch the dance-floor explode.

SWARM - The Nothing

Almost exactly a year after his earliest upload (a Malaa bootleg), Florida producer and midtempo terror SWARM unleashed "The Nothing." Arising out of an algorithm this track came to me unexpectedly, hunting me down like a creep in the night. It is outright dark, demonic and depraved, sewn into its artwork and the singular vocal "nothing you can be is more terrible than I am." It's part X-Files abnormality; part Saw sick, psychological warfare. The five and a half minutes reek of wickedness, through all its cinematic arcs: the hollow breathing, stabbing strings, and hell choir; each arriving directly from the dark. The minute and half piano finale, while beautiful, still leaves the spine tingling, wondering if the iniquity of "The Nothing" has really ended. Enjoy the lossless version free here.FOLLOW SWARM: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Altvater - Moonbird

After more than six months of silence, downtempo electronica producer Altvater of South Carolina seems to have found his footing once again. "Moonbird" the follow up single to his sophomore EP Walking Creatures, is crazy chill and stunningly smooth. Saying he loved the song as early as the first night, and that while it took months to perfect, he always found solace in its existence. This natural, life-giving feel is easily identified, maybe never more so than in the seemingly spiritual vocals. Like its namesake it soars effortlessly, against a brilliant, almost illusory backdrop. But this creature cannot be contained, it's elusive, only available in 3 minute waves. Get a glimpse of "Moonbird" on Bandcamp.FOLLOW ALTVATER: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

warner case - comoverto...

Last time we saw warner case here, he had just changed his name from Jay xero and released "upsidown." He since stayed tickling strings with "Thereforeyou," another beautiful, bouncy pop production. His latest "comoverto..." once again pairs the contrasting warm, bright top line and cool, dark bass with case's crisp, smooth vocals. As always the allure of his production lies in its brilliantly blended elements and the movement around them. It is an uber earworm, that will leave you wriggling and writhing on the floor. Stylish and chic, this is exactly the kind of pop that I can listen to any time of the day and share with literally anyone. Find it paired with an equally slick music video below, stream via Spotify here, and add the sleek "comoverto..." to your collection from your favourite outlet here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: FWLR - Numb (ft. Che'Nelle)

Last week New Brunswick's FWLR made his debut on Canadian mainstay Monstercat, with the decidedly dope "Numb." Featuring vocals from Che'Nelle, this track is both bright and soaring, while somehow dark and earthbound. The keys kick up dust in your eye and, enter the bass, leaves you spinning, reaching for any firm foundation. It is a brilliant blend; a masterclass in modern electronic dance music. Stream it below, purchase here and hear it in the mix on Bump In The Hump tonight.
Also on this week's episode, we've got five artists (including FWLR) making their Radio Humber debuts. The two hour electronic music extravaganza includes all kinds of house, techno, future bass, funk, wave, dubstep, and trap. Daktyl - Oscillate (ft. Janelle Kroll)

Going back a few years, there was no one that blew my mind more than the UK's Daktyl. His production is and was always pristine. His sound and style unlike any - in my mind true 'future bass' although that definition/connotation has since changed. Take his early remixes of Wonderful Humans and fwdslxsh as examples. Later his Cyclical showcased his incredible abilities as an original artist, and perhaps this is where his genius and versatility shines most: "Mind," live with frequent collaborator JJ Draper.
Following this Daktyl went nearly radio silent, leaving me and others waiting with baited breath for essentially all of 2016 and a good portion of 2017. His return was then marked by the tellingly titled EP, The Act Of Hesitation. That release seemed to be twofold, in that it opened the floodgates for a more steady stream of music, whether it be his Dusk+Dawn mixes, recent Riyaaz EP, and even more fresh flurry of singles, including "Weather," and today's "Oscillate." If Daktyl's story interests you, serendipity has struck as my friends at FUXWITHIT just released an interview with him today, read here.Maybe it's my love for steel pans, but I was hooked on "Oscillate" in seconds. Janelle Kroll's and Daktyl's treatment of them is (like the rest of the production) brilliantly beautiful. The whole track just seems to shimmer, at least until the bass and groove kicks in sending your senses spiraling. As well as the movement, play and progression combine as one wondrous weapon, it is the little things that make "Oscillate" so spectacular. The one off, varying percussive hits; sneaky, backing strings; and bleepy effects, all add an undeniable allure and sparkling sheen. A wonderful return to the form that I first fell in love with, find the musical magic that is "Oscillate" available for stream/purchase here.

Beethoven - Für Elise (Klutch Remix)

Last week a video of Rusko at Red Rocks began circulating featuring a remix of Beethoven's "Für Elise." Originally identified as Rusko's own production, it was soon corrected to be from the mind of Nola's Klutch, who said he was waiting for the timing to be right to drop. Apparently that day has come as the absolutely banging two minutes and twenty seconds of pure power has been unleashed, fantastically free in full WAV format. Buckle in, let the master's fingers get your heart aflutter, then make way for the epic beat as it sends your soul shooting through the floor with the wildest of wobs and sickest of switch-ups. Finally, due to the short yet impressive nature of the mix, I think it's safe to expect further extended edits/re-remixes. Enlightened Listening for July 6

There's really nothing like waking up on a Friday and filling your coffers with new music. This week has some particularly strong releases with Four Tet, Kraak & Smaak, Dimitri From Paris and Mat Zo dropping off some wicked remixes. The trio of CastNowski, Bjorn Torske and Folamour join the party with awesome EPs, and more than a handful of fantastic singles from SG Lewis, Damian Lazarus, Hunter Siegel & Wax Motif, and Justice. Stream below, read descriptions following and happy Friday!

Wavedash & Quest - Adagio (Mat Zo Remix)
The kind of mastery you can only get from Mat Zo. Subtle and beautiful beginnings eventually get twisted with wicked movement and spectacular sound design.

Folamour - Club Degli Esploratori
Quickly becoming one of my favourite, most trusted providers of disco grooves, Folamour's four track EP is top notch. As usual he offers up smooth flowing fun. Watch out for "Girl With Attitude."

Xinobi - Skateboarding (Kraak & Smaak Remix)
Light and bright take from Kraak & Smaak with some sensational soaring synths and bleepy grooves.

SG Lewis x Clairo - Better
Always tugging on the heartstrings with tremendous sound design, SG Lewis lays down a wonderfully warm groove against which Clairo's cute crooning comes as a beautiful breeze.

CastNowski - The Factory
CastNowski stays hot with his second EP in as many months. It too hits hard with deep, dirty and grinding house numbers that will leave even the most sure footed dancer feeling weak in the knees.

Ron Hall & The Mothafunkaz - The Way You Love Me (ft. Marc Evans)
Two absolute epic remixes from Dimitri From Paris and Tom Moulton. All I can say: "I'm Lovin' It."

Daniel Avery - Quick Eternity (Four Tet Remix)
Another absolute stunner. Ringing resplendence and undeniable excellence. But how about that turn in the second half? There really is nothing like a Four Tet remix. Sheer and utter brilliance.

Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons - Fly Away
Clean, cool and deep, Damian Lazarus does it all with ease. The vocals suck you in and the instrumental does the rest. Musical majesty especially with those sublime strings.

Wax Motif & Hunter Siegel - Wassup
I'm just mad it took so long for these two to work together again after "All Night Man." Already a certifiable club killer after hearing it at the recent No Neons, expect this to go off all summer long.

Proxy - Shake It
Proxy with the hot hot heat. Fantastic rapid fire wobs and potent progression make for one hell of a win.

Bjorn Torske - Byen
A wondrous, expansive, electronic soundscape that is absolutely perfect for summer - whether cruising, laying by the beach, or having a backyard bash. It is inventive, playful and beautifully put together.

Justice - Randy (WWW)
My favourite Justice track (which I've never seen performed live), gets a remix for their forthcoming 'live' studio album, Woman Worldwide. Pure electro prevails before the intoxicating vocals arrive in the second half and things get twisted like the old days of Cross and Audio, Video, Disco.

Alisky - Traces (ft. IOLITE)

Cool is as cool does, and that's definitely what the debut from Finnish artist Alisky is. "Traces" featuring vocals from Denver's IOLITE is seemingly a conflation of genres and sounds, but in an act of clever craftsmanship Alisky has offered up an aggregate of awesomeness. There's stunning simplicity and voluminous vibes which oppose the wickedly warped wall of sounds in the choruses. That said the quality of "Traces" lies in the space and captivating colour of each sound. The piano and snap led opening slides seamlessly into the groovy bass line which then explodes in a resplendent rainbow rife with raindrops, psychedelic plucks and chromatic vocal chops. "Traces" is a dazzling display of production prowess and lush lyricism, especially in the the line "Call me a gold digger, cause I found treasure in you."
