Enlightened Listening for August 6

It's that time again, time for another edition of our weekly new-music playlist, Enlightened Listening. The theme of this week would appear to be triumphant returns/blasts from the past. The first of those three thematic leaders is Fake Blood, who delivers 10 new tracks in the latest release centred around Ian Urbina's The Outlaw Ocean. Immediately after that in the playlist is TWRK classic "BaDinga," as refreshed and reloaded by DJ Sliink. Finally, Point Point make a triumphant return with their first new release in over 3 years. Staying with the retro trend, that's what The Weeknd delivers in his new single "Take My Breath," a spiritual successor to "Blinding Lights."

Of course, that Weeknd track is a standout, but there's plenty of others worth paying attention to. Both of the LPs from Monkey Safari and Lakou Mizik/Joseph Ray are incredible rides, just as the singles from Ben Böhmer, Franc Moody and Louis La Roche are utterly intoxicating. Finally, I just have to give it up to tails for an impressive EP on bitbird, as photos of the sun is brilliantly inspired. Stream the playlist, organized for maximum flow, below and find each individual release linked at the bottom. Enjoy!

Drake - In My Feelings (DJ Sliink x DJ Jayhood Jersey Mix)

While the internet was going wild with the #InMyFeelingsChallenge Jersey champions Sliink and Jayhood were busy bringing the bounce to Drake's delivery. Vibey, the Kiki cut gets kicked up a notch with thumping bass boosts and rapid-fire percussion. Sliink and Jayhood show off their genius with killer vocal chops, reworking them into an instrument of its own. You can almost feel the heat and see the strobe lights as this true club sensation spins around your head. Stream "In My Feelings" below.FOLLOW DJ SLIINK: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

DJ Sliink Live from OWSLA Stage at Ultra 2017

As you'll know I'm a big fan of Jersey Club and that obviously extends to one of the biggest players in that scene, DJ Sliink. After finally seeing him live a few months ago, when Anna Lunoe brought him along on her Hyperhouse Tour, I've been dying to see him again. While there are still no Toronto dates announced, his recently posted set from Ultra Miami does more than suffice. It's got so much of the trademark bounce associated with Jersey Club, as well as the IDGAF party atmosphere. Whether it's new tracks like his TWRK collab, "Text Ya Number" featuring Fetty Wap, or club cuts of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," Masters At Work "Work," and "Panda" the mix is overflowing with energy. Even though this wasn't released when I wrote my "5 Must Have Sets from Ultra Miami 2017," it certainly would have warranted inclusion. In fact, as I write this post I'm having a hard time typing because I'm having too much fun riding the waves of wildness Sliink's pumping out my speakers. Cop the mix free, here. Mary J. Blige - Family Affair (DJ Artist Remix)

Lately I've found myself getting back into Jersey Club, in part because of new releases from both DJ Sliink and Trippy Turtle. However, there are so many more artists in that vein worth listening to. Point in case: teenage producer DJ Artist. This past Tuesday, he dropped an absolutely unreal remix of the classic Dr. Dre produced, Mary J. Blige track "Family Affair." What makes this mix so good is Artist's use of the iconic strings riffs. He pairs them so perfectly with the percussion and the stabbing nature of Jersey Club. He's able to maintain so much of that delightful lick while upping the tempo and intensity, reworking "Family Affair" into an unholy club killer. It slaps you silly with all the additional effects and beats your brain into a pulp, bouncing relentlessly. It really has everything that I love about Jersey Club: sped up beats, DJ effects, incredible movement and snappy samples. Stream it below. If you enjoy this, I suggest checking out his latest flip, Ellie Goulding's "Burn." His soundcloud is littered with dope remixes so be sure to take the time to check out all 26 of his productions.

Sliink Drops Jersey Club Remixes of Kanye West and Ariana Grande

Jersey Club king Sliink has finally dropped his Kanye West "Wolves" remix. Entitled "Love You" and featuring Gutta, the track was first heard last March in a guest mix he did for Thump (here). It's a classic Jersey Club cut with relentless bouncing, clapping percussion and old school rave vibes. His treatment of the vocals is as strong as ever, not only maintaining much of the integrity of the original, but commanding enough to have the dance floor in a full on frenzy. Like the lyrics the mix is "too wild," and you can pick it up completely free "right now" with a direct download here. Eleven minutes after sharing the Kanye flip, he uploaded his mix of the Cashmere Cat aided Ariana Grande track "Be My Baby." This too has been around for a while (here), although we're finally gifted with the full version. This one is crazy beautiful. From the get go, we're treated to an awesome display of vocal and percussion interplay. It really shows why Sliink is perhaps the premiere Jersey Club producer out there. From the bed squeaks to the drum fills and the vocal chops, everything is on point, proving impossible to avoid Sliink's pulsating power. "MY BAE" is also available for free download, here. With Trippy Turtle making a comeback earlier this week, remixing 50 Cent and Nate Dogg, it seems Jersey Club is back in the forefront. What to expect from Anna Lunoe's Hyperhouse tour stop at The Hoxton

Anna Lunoe's Hyperhouse tour is set to make it's Toronto stop tonight at The Hoxton. The taste maker and Beats 1 host, has Vindata and DJ Sliink by her side for this leg of the tour, adding local talent Cosella for their stop in the 6ix. I've already touted this tour as one of the best of the year, but I'm about to make the case why. First let me start with Cosella, who continues his rise, gaining attention from big names Destructo, NEST HQ, and premieres on Lunoe's own show. He's also a friend of Bump In The Hump, where he premiered his collab with FromDropTillDawn, "No Boundaries." While still relatively fresh on the scene, he can already boast a series of quality releases, to go along with his strong networking skills that give him incredible exclusive and unreleased content for his deep DJ sets.Joining, Cosella as the night moves forward is New Jersey's own DJ Sliink. Previously known as Huglife, he is a master of bootleg remixes transforming the likes of Torey Lanez, D.R.A.M., Flume, Gnarls Barkley, among others, into Jersey Club weapons. Perhaps his most popular booty came in the form of the undeniably awesome Weeknd track "Wicked Games." Don't let this deceive you, Sliink is also a formidable producer of original tracks. His library is almost endless but here's a small sampling. The final opener, is duo Vindata, who despite being veterans of the scene, has absolutely exploded in the last year. Starting with their unbelievable EP, Through Time And Space, their long list of remixes, and their many productions with vocalist Kenzie May, Vindata's future bass vibes have catapulted them into collective consciousness. Of course I'd be remiss if I didn't make mention of their game changing collab with Mija, "Better." Expect these guys to bring an incredible energy, setting the stage for Anna. Of course, the headliner Anna Lunoe is the only way to wrap up this post. Her connections in the industry are nearly unrivaled, except perhaps for Beats 1 head honcho, Zane Lowe. This means that in addition to Anna's quality productions we can expect a unbelievable amount of new music from bootleg mixes, to exclusives and unreleased tracks. She is a DJ extraordinaire, and I expect nothing less than an absolutely off the wall party when she finally gets behind the decks. This truly is going to be one of the most special night's of the year, with what I would argue might be the best 4 DJ lineup The Hoxton has seen in that span. I fully expect it to busy early because of this fact. As of now ticket are still available online, details and such can be found at the facebook event.

Anna Lunoe - Hyperhouse Tour Megamix

The number of quality tours going around this fall is perhaps unprecedented. Whether it's Mija's FK A Genre, Destructo's Renegade, or Anna Lunoe's Hyperhouse, the slew of DJs on each is absolutely awesome. In anticipation of her tour starting next week, Anna just dropped a 35 minute mega mix, overflowing with some of the hottest tracks from her incredibly deep roster of DJs, including Vindata and Sliink who will both be at The Hoxton, Saturday November 5th. Of course the mix also includes Lunoe's latest, "Radioactive," Sleepy Tom's breakout banger, "Be Right There," and their collaborative effort, "Pusher." Then there's some magical Mija, including her remix of A-Trak and Tommy Trash's "Lose My Mind," Vindata's "Own Life" and their smash hit collab, "Better." The 12 city tour starts October 13th in Santa Barbara and works its way up the west coast through Vancouver before restarting in Washington DC, November 3rd, with a few east coast stops before heading to Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. The line up varies for each stop, so check out www.itshyperhouse.com to see who of Cray, Sliink, Dombresky, Ducky, Madeaux, Mija, Nina Las Vegas, Rickyxsan, Sleepy Tom, Uniiqu3, Vindata and Wuki will be joining Anna. I've linked the facebook event for the Toronto stop, here, if you want more details and/or tickets.

SVANI - Bootleg Pack

Norway's SVANI recently broke the quadruple digit followers mark on her soundcloud and has graced us all with a five track bootleg pack for our listening and DJing pleasures.
The above Busta Rhymes "Dangerous" vocal edit of her original "YAASSS," leads the mashup bootleg package, with it's undeniable club capabilities. Upon first listening, SVANI immediately evoked SOPHIE, and in some perfect, almost eerie, realization of desires SVANI also included a mashup of SOPHIE's club smasher "MSMSMSM," combined with Sugur Shane's vocals. The combinations SVANI creates are ridiculously lethal and could easily appear in a Baauer, Hudson Mohawke or RL Grime set. Add into the mix a nasty Missy Elliott/Mapalma mashup, Njena Reddd Foxxx "Jackie Brown" on top of Los Timbres' "Flute" and soul crushing edit of Kelela's "Rewind." Whether you're a DJ or just a consumer you've got to pick up these free treats, via mediafire. Also check out her other edits via yungcloud, which includes a mix of Jamie xx's "There's Gonna Be (Good Times)" as well as a Tinashe/DJ Sliink mashup.
