Enlightened Listening for July 30

It's the Friday of a long weekend, so without further ado, I present this week's Enlightened Listening. Sorted from light, light-hearted and groovy to heavy, deep and banging, the 16 releases feature countless trusted names, several pre-album singles, and yes, a trio of awesome Anjuna offerings. Finally, I will note that, while not in the playlist, the two tracks I wrote about earlier this week, "Don't Tread On Else Matters" and "Only One," are just as highly recommended as the rest of these fine productions. Enlightened Listening for July 16

It's Friday and that means it's time for this week's Enlightened Listening. I've got a busy day, so I've got to keep the writeup tight here, but that doesn't mean there isn't a mountain of new music for you to check out. In fact, our 20-release, 54-track playlist runs over three hours and includes a little of everything, so you're sure to find something you like. There are a couple less typical-of-this-playlist, yet cool cuts from BADBADNOTGOOD and Pat Metheny to start, epic stuff from VER:WEST, Booka Shade, Tonja Holma and The Chemical Brothers immediately after that and then it's banger hour with standouts from Dog N Hoss, Dr. Fresch x Glass Petals, Rusko and ShockOne. Enlightened Listening for February 22

When was the last time Fake Blood, Feed Me and Rusko all had new releases? It's got to be damn near a decade. That trio, along with a strong selection of EPs and a couple sublime singles make this edition of Enlightened Listening one to remember. Find brief descriptions below along with stream.

Yuksek - I Don't Have A Drum Machine
Maybe not the most inventive or game-changing track you'll ever come across, but a beautiful, groovy homage to the life and love inherent in disco.

Haywyre - Panorama: Form
Another exceptional EP from Haywyre, both in the cohesiveness of the tracks and the dazzling display of musicianship in each. Form makes his tour even more of a must see.

Low Steppa - You're My Life
The kind of quality we've come to expect from both Low Steppa and Defected. Delightfully dancey.

Undercatt - Cadabra / Vegas
Big time builds whose payoffs are more than worth the wait. That said, the journey is an enjoyable one.

Fake Blood - The Fear / Garms
Theo has not lost a step, he's as unique and hypnotizing as ever. Dark and brooding brilliance.

Blossom - Big Shot
Night Bass never misses and Blossom brings some really tough stuff for her debut there. The blend of bass house, garage and grime, especially in "Anime" is sick.

Feed Me - High Street Creeps
Not quite the same raw, raucous electro I first enjoyed from Feed Me, but still as powerful as ever. The diverse deliveries include fire in "Barrel Roll" and "Satanic Panic" and resplendent restraint in "Feel Love" and "Defiant." Certainly Feed Me's most polished product.

Modeselektor - Who Else
Wickedly cool creations, at times incredibly jacking and perhaps even killer in "Fentanyl," others more melodic and slow burning. Straddling the line between the two, "Wealth" is my favourite of the bunch.

Rusko - MEGARAD
While there's been countless artists follow in the footsteps of Rusko, no one does it quite like him and this EP is the perfect example of that. He and the EP have both got range and energy for days, and I fully expect these tracks to be rinsed for for the foreseeable future. I'm here for all of the tracks, but I just can't get enough of the nostalgic vibes "Hardcore Raven" doles out.

Enlightened Listening for February 1

Another week down and another great list of releases waiting for you. This edition of Enlightened Listening features plenty of tracks to keep you warm wherever you are, whether they're 'literally fire' or moving enough to get you doing the same. Leading things off is an incredible album from Luttrell.

Into Clouds is beautiful and powerful throughout, but if you want a selling point before diving right in, check out any of the middle 4 tracks, you don't be disappointed. Following that are six singles mostly on the dancier, groovier side, or at least starting moreso that way, and ending more tech-driven.

warner case dropped a track on Kitsuné and its got the same sublime salaciousness and funky aloof feel I've loved from the start. Mercer takes us poolside with another neo-disco delivery in "Your Love." Staying with steady quality, Purple Disco Machine offers up a sensational, expansive take on the already awesome Years & Years/Jax Jones joint "Play." It just keeps getting better however as Alex Metric too has offered up an epic remix, filling all rooms and ears with his fat, funky take on Parcels "Lightenup." More you say? How about The Chemical Brothers?

Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have a new album on the way with No Geography due out April 12, and we got a taste of it today in "Got To Keep On." It's stupid good, and I don't think there's anything else to say about it. Classic Chemical Brothers, beyond brilliant. As if there we're enough epic remixes already, let's add one more to the pile in Eagles & Butterflies nearly 10 remix of "Enough To Believe." Just like the other Bob Moses remixes, there's an undeniable allure, but ascendingly electronic delivery makes this mix an absolute marvel.

Finally, we close things out with some fire in LICK's fearsome four track DIMENSION EP and Rusko's remix of "Rebel Love." It feels like hardly any time has passed since I first heard LICK in his remix of Malaa, and now here he is going off with electrifying originals on Deadbeats. Shutting things down Rusko once again shows off his status as Don of the Dub. His design is like no other and it shines, or rather, burns bright throughout this mix. Enlightened Listening for January 25

Friday's never disappoint when it comes to new music, and for this week's Enlightened Listening, I've honed in on a couple albums, and the latest Afterlife EP, alongside a handful of fantastic singles. Rudimental - Toast To Our Differences
Massive album from the masters. More features than you can count, including Jess Glynne, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Maverick Sabre, and more. The kind of quality and range you can expect from one of the world's best outfits. Some easy listening poppy bits with its share of heavier, DnB stompers.

BOT - BOT New World
Serious callbacks to his crazy Crookers days with weird, often times trippy deliveries. Colourful, vibrant and transportive techno. If this means we're coming back to this style, I'm game.

Fideles - Endless Sacrifice
I cannot get enough of Afterlife at the moment, and while I would've loved to have got my hands on some of the IDs in Tale Of Us's Voyage mix, this is certainly satisfying. At times overpowering and others spine-tingling, each track has an engulfing energy that, like BOT above, takes you places.

Sheridan Grout & GXD - Dam
Was not expecting this kind of banger, but I am most certainly here for it. Reminds me of one of my favourite mixes of all time, Cosmic Gate's 2011 Essential Mix. Beyond brilliant, absolutely euphoric!

Ducky - Day Zero
Lyrically and sonically punchy. Captures the same kind of energy as early Porter Robinson/San Holo.

QUIX - Stronger (ft. Elanese)
QUIX keeps innovating and moving the bar, keeping not just us listeners on our toes but his peers too. The consummate quality he always brings is astounding, and while we may already know that, it's hard not to get blown away by the drums and brass in the second drop. Wow, just wow.

Rusko - Squeeze (Burnin)
The world is a better place with Rusko pumping out beats, and that's exactly what he did with this one: pump. Fat af, this simple stunner is sure to get rinsed out all summer long, in fact it might just speed summer along, and I don't think anyone's complaining about that...

Haus Of Panda - Kick It
I don't know what I like more: 1) that Haus Of Panda's been dropping fire like this with incredible regularity for over a year now, or 2) that he seemingly raises the bar with each release. Certainly seems as though speed house is here to stay!

Dr. Fresh x BIJOU - Gangsta Party
The masters of menacing g-house combine for a couple chest rattlers. Not for the faint of heart, these are sure to do damage on the dance-floor.

Beethoven - Für Elise (Klutch Remix)

Last week a video of Rusko at Red Rocks began circulating featuring a remix of Beethoven's "Für Elise." Originally identified as Rusko's own production, it was soon corrected to be from the mind of Nola's Klutch, who said he was waiting for the timing to be right to drop. Apparently that day has come as the absolutely banging two minutes and twenty seconds of pure power has been unleashed, fantastically free in full WAV format. Buckle in, let the master's fingers get your heart aflutter, then make way for the epic beat as it sends your soul shooting through the floor with the wildest of wobs and sickest of switch-ups. Finally, due to the short yet impressive nature of the mix, I think it's safe to expect further extended edits/re-remixes. G Jones - Pull Up

There's no other way to describe G Jones' latest track "Pull Up," as anything other than bass. With riddim, dubstep and trap influences throughout, "Pull Up" is a confluence of the all the best, bass-focused genres has to offer. It's menacing, rattling the very core of the listener, with sound design reminiscent of the best bass producers known to this world. Somehow he's channeled Flux Pavilion, Excision, Bassnectar, Rusko and RL Grime, and combined them all, in a cohesive and killer fashion.
I cannot help but envision an interstellar space battle, as ships careen through explosions, with lasers and rockets blasting all around. In fact I think it should be the soundtrack for the latest installment of Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The real magic and guiding force behind "Pull Up" is the percussion; resisting it is futile as G Jones grabs listeners by the scruff of the neck, dunking our heads in toilet bowls, brazenly bullying us with his bombastic bass throbs. From its ravey beginnings through its domineering and derelict devolution of dance sentimentalities, G Jones succeeds in delivering his vision for bass tracks of the future. "Pull Up" is the lead single from his forthcoming EP, Visions, set to be released "early 2017," for which he is also touring North America from December 30th through April 22nd.
