Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: HNTR - Searching For Self (ft. Tribe Alexander)

Just as we did last week, we start this week's all-new episode of Bump In The Hump with an explosion of energy. Early on we trend towards techno and acid, taking in some fire forthcoming cuts from Cloverdale and ksd6700, the latter making a brilliant return to BADLQQK. But before then, we get to look ahead to the weekend with HNTR's epic introspection, "Searching For Self." While he's been making waves on the mighty mau5trap as of late, HNTR will always and forever be the baron of all things black, the overload of all things obsidian, the king of No Neon. And it is No Neon that returns to CODA this Saturday, August 14th as part of the wonderful Reboot Music series (see rebootmusic.ca for more). Mikey Palermo and James Blvck are set to join HNTR, and you can too, absolutely free if you arrive before 10:30 PM (RSVP/info). Enlightened Listening for March 19

Another Friday means it's time for another Enlightened Listening. This week's edition clocks in at just under four hours, running 55 tracks deep. Centred around albums from Dezza and OVERWERK, there's a trio of utterly infectious cuts from Jacques Greene, Todd Edwards and Folamour, as well as BIJOU's banging return to Night Bass (my favourite EP there in many months). Staying with the heavy stuff, the final four releases in the playlist, while diverse, each overflow with energy and bristle with bass. Returning to the top, the playlist opens with three-way collab "Ride Or Die," which I can almost guarantee will appear across year-end best-of lists. Boys Noize and Chily Gonzales is a potent pairing in itself, while Kelsey Lu's vocals are simply sublime. Finally, filling in the gaps are a fistful of remixes, including an immersive epic from Volen Sentir, and a trio of EPs from EMBRZ, HNTR and Afterlife. Enlightened Listening for March 12

Once again we've had an incredible week of releases, making for a massive edition of Enlightened Listening. Stretching past the seven-hour mark while coming in just at just less than 100 tracks, the new music playlist is built upon a handful of long-form projects and several sensational singles.

Thematically, the first six releases fit together under the progressive house/trance umbrella. We open with the culmination of two teased albums from CRi and Sultan + Shepard, the latter showcasing the duo in top form. With a similar sentiment, ASHE is on the top of his game with Strangers Dream which features "Stay," a quintessential ASHE production, and two truly sublime slices in "Earth Room"& "Bleeding Heart." Later, TDJ whets our appetite for TDJ002 with dreamy delivery "Lalala."

Next up, London Grammar grace us with a new obsession-worthy single in the hook-driven "How Does It Feel." Hot on the heels of that heavenly offering are two more moving groovers in Jayda G's gorgeous remix of Rhye and Friend Within's equally fabulous LP Hope. Turning more tech-driven, Morgan Geist's masterful remix of Marie Davidson leads us down the ever-darker, more intense and driving backend of this playlist. From the at times bright and groovy designs of Black Loops and Doss to the scorching DnB of Denham Audio, Sleepnet and John Rolodex, this playlist never lacks power. As if taking that last statement as a challenge, the playlist runs right off the rails with the unhinged energy and brutal bangers of ALRT, Dion Timmer, HNTR and Dropwizz. Enlightened Listening for May 15

Another week has passed and so it's time for another edition of Enlightened Listening. I'm gonna keep things relatively short and sweet this week, so read into the playlist in the following paragraphs or just listen at your leisure below. Have a great weekend, enjoy and stay sane!

Albums from Moby and Nathan Micay open the playlist, each ingenious in their own right. A couple EP pairings follow as Anjunadeep and Speicher deliver the kind of quality one can expect from the legendary labels. Mind Against then break the ice on a number of forthcoming remixes of Dominik Eulberg's Mannigfaltig. A quartet of larger EPs follow that remix as the playlist straddles the house/techno boundary. My favourite from each of the four, respectively: "Maranta," "Echoes From Beyond," "Red South" and  "Les Gens."

The back half of the playlist opens with the 3rd version of what was Hunter Siegel's house hit "Waiting Up," now updated to better fit HNTR's techno turn. Another ingenious revision follows that as Four Tet puts his inimitable touch, and a peak time touch at that, on Caribou's brilliant "Never Come Back." The whole playlist turns on its head with the next track, "Arch Enemy" from the fabulous Everything Everything. Even funkier, the final three releases from The Phenomenal Handclap Band (with an incredible album), Pat Lok and The Magician will have you dancing all the way through the weekend.
