Sam Groove - Top Back

Not sure which drew me in more, the BIJOU repost or the GTA: Vice City-esque album art. No matter, the booty bass of Phoenix's Sam Groove and "Top Back" is sure to garner plenty of airtime whether driving with windows sealed and the heat blasting, or windows down, if it ever gets warm enough for that again. Hell, it'll probably get plenty of plays while I'm just walking, which will inevitably turn into a strut. Not only is the album art reminiscent of this standout game of yesteryear, musically it delivers a perfect mix of classic rave vibes with the great g-house grooves dominating the moment. The lasers and other effects lap like waves on the rocky shore that is the unshakable bass. And while the bass may be banging, it's nothing without the slews of stupid good percussion that slap, clap, snap, rattle and shake to perfection. It's quite clear throughout that Sam Groove knows how to knock off some killer cuts, but in the drops especially does his mastery shine through. Destructo - Loaded (ft. Yo Gotti)

There's a comment under this track saying "finally g-house is back." EH? Where did it go? It feels like Dr. Fresch has been delivering the goods for a least a couple years now (as recently as yesterday), and I've covered many other upstarts on this blog. There's also no denying that Destructo has been on the leading edge of this G-House 'revival,' if that is even a thing. That being said, this track, "Loaded," is sure to bring more unenlightened listeners into the G-House fold. Not many artists bring as much weight as Destructo. And I don't just mean figuratively as in clout, but also weight, as in a sizable bass. The ominous gritty boom starts low, but builds up to an unavoidable impact, transforming Yo Gotti's vocal character into a vicious goliath. The themes of braggadocio and intimidation run rampant through both the blistering bass and vainglorious vocals. "Loaded" is the latest example of the truly top notch production ability of Destructo, and ought to be included in any bass house DJ's repertoire.

Dr. Fresch & NuKid - 151

Dr. Fresch has been busy. Just two weeks ago he dropped another godly G-House bootleg, in the form of A$AP Ferg's "Plain Jane," and earlier this week I wrote about his Bloghaus episode of The Prescription. Now he's teamed up with NuKid for a potent original production, "151." Like most of what we've come to expect from the good doctor, this track is overly ominous, dropping an unavoidable weight on unsuspecting listeners. Claustrophobes be warned, this one closes in on you quickly, because in spite of its unsightly heft, it's actually quite nimble. The drum work deftly delivers this diabolical dance groove that flows as freely as a noxious gas. Newtone - Move

Continuing this stretch of killer G-house tracks that I just cannot ignore, comes "Move" from Croatia, courtesy Newtone and Moretin, a blog and free download label. Released yesterday as part of the 3 track Moretin Talents EP, "Move" was the standout for me, in part because of its incredibly intense atmosphere, but also Newtone's hypnotic yet playful progression. The goal of G-house is always to create an unease, an anticipation of the evil lurking around the corner, and Newtone has perfected that here. Even though "Move" is massively heavy, pounding with each step, you don't quite know what abhorrence it's truly capable of until it barrels around the corner with the first drop at 1:01. The wubs there are absolutely wild, and the way Newtone's worked them is truly vicious, but in my eyes it's the little clicks and rings that take it from a mere campfire to a blazing bonfire. Ayo - Name Game

G-House really seems to be blowing up. I wrote about BIJOU's remix of Crash Land, earlier this week, and have supported some tremendous Toronto based talents (Marco Marz, Maddmon and others) here and on Radio Humber. It's even inspired trap producer Dropwizz to start a side project, Kavi Indatissa. The latest example of the G-House takeover to comes from Seattle deep bass head, Ayo.

"Name Game" is as deep as it is dirty. Your subwoofer will be slamming as the track stomps along at the trademark slow, almost plodding pace. While it's easy to be allured by the sheer bad-ass nature of the bass, it's the little punctuations and counter effects that make the difference between a poser and a powerhouse. And make no mistake Ayo and his "Name Game" are a force to be reckoned with. The bass design delivers a religious experience, an unholy one at that.
