Paul Mond - FLIP SEASON 2

Just over six months after his first FLIP SEASON release, indie bouncin innovator Paul Mond is back with SEASON 2 today. Putting new spins on classic cuts from the worlds of hip hop, rap and electronic, FLIP SEASON 2 finds Lil Jon, Daft Punk, Pharrell, TNGHT and others in all new arenas. Bringing together his unique blend of baile, future beats and jersey club, Mond's 11 new productions will have you seeing some of your favourites in an all new light.

Leading the way, Lil Jon's "Get Low" is a classic indie bouncin offering, keeping its quality vocals largely intact while leaning on Mond's trademark guitar and percussion. Equally as get-down inspiring as the original, this new flavour is all kinds of awesome. Also dance-floor dominant, the Daft Punk "Technologic" flip is a blown-speaker banger that makes use of sick new percussion. Another standout track follows that as Mond seamlessly blends the choral quality of Kanye's Sunday Service with his "Fade" from The Life Of Pablo. Albeit brief, the brilliant and banging nature of "faith" is sure to pique interest, turn heads and have the dance-floor filling up. Jumping a little further ahead, my favourite of the bunch, Lil Wayne's "A Milli," delivers a slick new cascading electronic bed that both makes room for Wayne's flow and plays perfectly against it. Ill as can be, it would be wild to see a crowd's reaction to this going off in a club, but I guess we'll have to settle for a comment section's reaction on a live stream.

Ticklish & Qnoe - Eau De Club EP

Just over a month ago I wrote about Ticklish and his take on Nelly's "Ride Wit Me." Going back even further to August I shared his collaborative mix of "International Players Anthem" with Qnoe. Well today, that duo has reunited to share 5 club friendly edits, including classics "Break Ya Neck," "Make It Rain," and a killer recast of Waka Flocka & "No Bystanders." Each of the tracks from the Eau De Club EP can be copped individually with free downloads from Hypeddit or purchased through Bandcamp.

While edit EPs aren't usually dependent on flow, using "Make It Rain" as the opening track is perfect. The horns welcome your ears like a royal entrance, setting the bouncy scene as the club is set to get wet, whether with the EP's title, rain or, more likely, sweat. The second track "Blue Fingers," a flip of Smokepurpp, shows Ticklish & Qnoe's range, while still imbuing a strong bounce and sway. Following that get-down is the biggest club shaker of the EP in "No Flames," where the dirtiness of "Hard In The Paint," Travis Scott, Juice WRLD, and Sheck Wes combine in epic fashion. As if that weren't trippy enough, the following track "Break Ya Neck," of course a spin on Busta Rhymes, will leave your mind bent, battered and bruised. There's no beating the original hook, but hearing it freaked out in this fashion is absolutely wild. Finally, Eau De Club concludes with Big Sean's "Pull Up N Wreck" playing out like the closing credits to an 80s film. Supremely smooth, this new backing beat actually fits Sean's slick vocals incredibly well. And really, that's what makes this EP such a stunner; Ticklish and Qnoe have a knack for both building and playing with beats, giving tracks a new life with their Frankenstein-esque combinations. The Best Walk Up Tracks/Entrance Music

Yesterday was my first day in a new baseball 'beer' league, and it's got be thinking about a number of empowering tracks that I'd love to have blasting while I walk to the plate or come out to the mound. Ever since I was young (and dumb enough to think wrestling was real), I would pretend I were coming into a packed arena to a la Rocky, or more recently Floyd Mayweather with boy wonder, Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne rapping at his side. Entrance music or in baseball, walk up tracks, have to be immediately recognizable, hit hard right off the bat and instantly, thrust its atmosphere of intimidation onto the scene. With that in mind, I've compiled a number of my favourite tracks to puff up my chest and peacock my way into the batter's box or onto the mound. The first, and most recently released, Dr. Fresch's "Gangsta Gangsta" exudes strength and intimidation; Baby Eazy-E's vocals only further that threatening atmosphere, of "don't fuck with me." You've heard it in in Budwieser's latest commercial campaign, Baauer's use of infernal horns, makes "Day Ones" one of the best examples of empowering tracks, that makes any entrance epic. While the lyrics may not be the best fit, the first 5 seconds of OG Maco's collaboration with bad boys TWRK, is incredibly powerful and invokes a strut that rivals any wrestler entering the ring. Despite taking a couple seconds to really hit its anthemic stride, Rustie's "Big Catzz" leaves just the right amount of room for one of the Buffer brothers to announce your entrance. Another of the slow burning, building intensity, Black Tiger Sex Machine's collaboration with Lektrique's flows incredibly ominously underneath the unholy warbling, before exploding in a fury. I would be remiss if I didn't include some NGHTMRE on this list, as he's been so influential in my musical enjoyment in the past year or so, and his remix of Slumberjack "The Others" my favourite of his catalog and perhaps the best suited for this category of tracks. Another one of my favourite artists, Henrik The Artist, may not be the most intense, but this mashup with Lethal Bizzle, courtesy Non Stop Pop, combines the genius "On The Moon" and LB's grime laden vocals.

cavest - rave/relax

Over the course of the past four days, teenage German producer cavest has dropped two trapped out freebies, "rve" and "rlx" and put them together to create a mini EP, rave-relax. 

The lead "rlx" came out Thursday, with serious chill vibes utilizing highly modified Lil' Wayne lyrics "sit back, relax" from Rep My Hood. cavest succeeds in injecting this minimal trap tune with seriously intimidating, yet somehow comforting atmosphere. He doesn't reinvent the wheel while employing highly conventional trap sounds, but he intelligently adds subtle yet potent samples,l that only amplify the incredible, brooding aura. The real victory cavest attains, is the playful, almost twerking, beat-flipping following each drop - ingenious and inescapably awesome.

When listening to the two tracks back to back, the link between the two is immediate and clear. "rve" ups the tempo, while remaining cautiously chilled out. Once again, cavest takes advantage of another short-yet-sweet rap sample, this time from Jay Z's Izzo --- "can't leave rap alone the game needs me." And again he bolsters the atmosphere with harrowing female warbles. The track really takes off with echoing instrumentation on the drops pursued by rolling percussion. While both tracks are relatively chill, and obviously not bangers, "rve" brings with it more classic 'rave' elements and movement, encouraging its listeners to get down. cavest deftly delivers a double dose of chill trap that ooze with atmosphere.
