Enlightened Listening for July 9

After skipping last week, Enlightened Listening is back with more than four hours of new music that you need to hear. Closing the book on last week, I'll note that Daktyl's "Hyperion" is from then, but I prefer it to the new single from his forthcoming mixtape. It, like so much of this week's playlist, features an incredible energy, a wicked vibe, and dope drums.

The other theme appears to be long-form releases (LPs or mixtapes) with Hybrid, Wizard, DJ Ride, and Attacca Quartet, each crafting a unique, cool, and compelling journey. Rounding out that first half, I've gotta give a tip of the hat to Ninajirachi's NLV/Sable Valley release, which is an absolute gas.

Still, the dope drums persist into the second half of the playlist as things get a touch more spacey with an awesome yehno remix package, another unreal Skream ifeel EP, and an Amtrac solo effort on OPENERS. Turning more dancey, and ever more groovy, the playlist continues with intoxicating originals from KUU and Peggy Gou, and a trio of top-notch remixes from Tensnake, Gerd Janson, and ABSOLUTE. Finally, the cherry on top, Chilly Gonzales with one that's sure to make you grin, "Music Is Back." Dig in now below and find each individual release linked at the bottom. Enlightened Listening for February 19

It's time for our weekly feast of fresh beats, Enlightened Listening. This week's edition includes many of my favourite names, of which Oski and Vindata make triumphant returns. Oski offers up a trifecta of flames on Deadbeats, while Vindata deliver a double dose of divinity to Monstercat. Also dropping off a dynamic duo, Low:r impresses yet again with infectious affairs "Pixel" & "Well." Equally trustworthy, Polaris adds another star to his galactic catalogue with "Deliverance." But enough of burying the lede. Jacques Greene & Cadence Weapon have a new collab! Sharing much of the magic that made "Night Service" such a sensation, "SENNA" too feels like a phenomenon we'll be enjoying over and over and over again. Other standout tracks come from CloudNone, Diplo by way of his MMXX mix of KUU, and Bit Funk & Jason Gaffner, who share another collaborative single. Top 100 Tracks Of 2020: 75-51

#75: Aluna - Body Pump (Sammy Virji Remix)
The more I think about this, the more I realize this is likely my favourite use of Aluna vocals. Her incredible versatility and dynamism work wonders on this ridiculously groovy bed. The track rolls on wonderfully throughout, but the real win comes in the final minute and a half as Aluna and Sammy really let loose. The former feeding her inner diva and the latter letting the brass bustle.
Much like "Kessel Run" in last year's list, Polaris stays stellar with rapturous piano and scintillating percussion. A blinding rush through star systems, this is as dreamy and divine as any of the tracks in this list - the first of many DnB tracks to crack the Top 100.

The way Youngr brings out the best of the classics he flips is simply stunning. Laying down a sick new drum bed is just the start as the guitars eventually guide the Lifelike & Kris Menace creation to funky new heights. It hits on all cylinders, never compromising the quality of the original while adding an awesome new spin and lush life.

The quality of the original is forefront in this mix and maybe in a year in which clubs aren't closed, it supersedes the original. However, any chance at properly enjoying this in an all too crowded and sweaty club was foiled. That said, Four Tet has not disappointed with this dynamic and driving delivery. Its energy is utterly infectious and its breakdowns truly breathtaking. It's as if the original were bitten by a werewolf and this remix is its transformation.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Best Of 2020 (Part 2, Heavy)

Tonight marks Bump In The Hump's final episode of this topsy-turvy year. Following the groovy-themed first half of our Best Of 2020, the retrospective takes a raucous turn as we unleash the banger-driven back-half. Just as was the case last week, I was unable to fit all of the selections into the two-hour episode, so again I'll share some honourable mentions here. Again like last week, I feel the need to clarify that while these nine tracks are not in the episode, they are indeed part of best of the year; they just would not fit.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Beatmool - Falling EP

While 2020 is largely a disastrous nightmare, the music we've been blessed with is almost enough to counter that fact. My favourite trend in that regard is the resurgence of DnB in North America which has allowed me to inject its energy into each and every show. This week we've got DeVice label boss René LaVice, another epic from Polaris, an introspective offering from AkaHendy and a cut from Beatmool's fantastic Falling EP. Out now on Pulse Palace, the four-tracker features its fair share of guitar and piano atop brilliant and brisk drum beds that combine to create an exceedingly cool nature-scape. Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Polaris - Uncharted EP

Toronto DnB producer Polaris has had himself one heck of a first few months of 2019. He's already authored a single on the massive Sick Music 2019 compilation from the legendary Hospital Records, he then followed that with a wicked remix of Whiney's "Spheres" and this past Friday he released his debut EP, Uncharted. While visually and sonically indicative of Tron, which is quite literally a chart, each of the four tracks crackle with exceptional energy and an electronic allure, driving through a digital landscape.One of the tracks from Uncharted will find its way onto Bump In The Hump tonight, alongside a cut from Nathan Micay's Blue Spring, a couple exceptional mau5trap releases and two more top notch tracks from A-Trak and KRFW. We look ahead to thook's forthcoming NOISE LP and a weekend in which you can see Butrous, Ciel, Korea Town Acid and Barry Harris. Finally we close the night with a clip of my conversation with FUTURE MAGIC who returns to My Mixtape for a second all new hour this Saturday.
