Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Sophia Bel - No More (Durante Remix)

As we continue to cruise towards summer, Bump In The Hump has one more extended episode before we once again cede the final ten minutes to a My Mixtape interview. Just as we did last week, we showcase all but the kitchen sink as we glide through genres.

Following a deep, funky opening, our hands get raised in the air as we take in truly euphoric stuff from Nathan Micay and Pat Lok. And while I love those two tunes, they pale in comparison to Durante's radiant, resplendent take on Sophia Bel's breathtaking "No More." Instantly buoying, the remix features a plethora of percussion and, of course, Miss Bel's beatific vocals. However, the real hook of "No More," the one that keeps me coming back, and solidifies its spot as one of my favourite productions of the year, is the sublime, strident chord structure. It's hard not to be repetitive with words like resplendent, buoyant and euphoric when describing music, but there's no denying the resonance of those adjectives with this track. At low volumes, "No More" tickles the senses. When turned up, it sends you soaring, powered by PLUR. Get it below and catch it in tonight's all-new episode of Bump In The Hump, live from 7-9 EDT on Radio Humber, or after the fact, as cataloged on Mixcloud here.

Enlightened Listening for November 22

This week's edition of Enlightened Listening hits the epic standard once again. It's full of legendary names and extended cuts. With that in mind I'll aim to keep the descriptions short so you can just get right into the music which ranges from deep and progressive house to out and out bangers, especially heavy on the DnB. Skip ahead if to the playlist if you like or catch highlights in the following paragraph.

Ben Böhmer leads it off with a brilliant album, which is then followed by perhaps my favourite All Day I Dream EP, which is made up of four fantastic fable-like tracks from Volen Sentir. Friendly Fires bring in a couple brilliant remixes as well as a couple album extras in Offline, while Goom Gum take on a Depeche Mode classic. Joy Orbison and Overmono unleash brilliant b-side "Still Moving," which leads us into a bunch of banging bass tracks starting with a sensational Sable Valley pairing. Mat Zo and Doctor P deliver a couple genius cuts, reminding us of their revered status throughout the scene. However it is the future in Kryojen and WE ARE FURY, who cap the playlist with sensational soundscapes and a dark dystopian future. Enjoy all that and more below, and have a great weekend!

Durante - Maia

LA based electronic act, Durante opened both the month of March and his year alike with the release of sublime single "Maia." Out now via OPENERS, the track itself opens like your eyes onto a nighttime sky with but a single, blurry star blinking in the distance. As your eyes become accustomed to the surroundings, the magical picture slowly reveals itself, just as Durante delivers warmth and life to the seemingly boundless track. "Maia" moves and grows before your very eyes, however there is no urgency in its flight, but rather a free flowing evolution. It offers up ease and poise through its pleasing progression, not quite dazzling but most certainly dreamy. Find yourself floating away in a sea of tranquility by streaming the magical "Maia."
