Enlightened Listening for June 18

It's the weekend and that means it's time for another edition of Enlightened Listening. Headlining this week's new music playlist, and accounting for more than half of its tracks, is the simply massive Defected Presents House Masters compilation made up of a ton of Todd Edwards' legendary catalogue. He's not not the only time-tested and trusted talent here however, as Chromeo, Booka Shade and Blawan each deliver incredible new records. Young guns like TSHA, Simon Doty, Broken Future and STUND don't disappoint either. That said, I feel like I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't give Skream and DJ Deeon's releases specific shine, as they are both brilliant and mind-blowing, each and every track, particularly in regards to the percussion. Top quality stuff from top to bottom, stream the playlist, curated for optimal flow, below and find each individual release linked at the bottom. Have a great weekend!

Enlightened Listening for April 23

Another week brings another edition of Enlightened Listening. It seems the theme this week is breaks, as the first five releases feature said percussion prominently. More drum mastery follows as Squarepusher and Pusher blast off brilliantly. A bit of reset occurs in the middle as The Chemical Brothers wow with epic single, "The Darkness That You Fear." Riding that reset, a couple exceptional EPs follow as Amtrac & The Juan Maclean combine for Grit and Recondite delivers Bird to Afterlife. Turning to house, Vibrancy shares their sensational second edition of the Exhibits compilation series. Bringing in a bit of soul, Shift K3Y & Tinashe propel the playlist into divine disco vibes from Horse Meat Disco and Prins Thomas. Finally, we close with a gorgeous, groovy joint from Great Good Fine Ok. Stream the weekly new music playlist below, and find each individual release linked at the bottom.

Mr. Sosa - Flashback

There is something incredibly comforting about nostalgic lo-fi house and that comes through in droves on the first release from new label Viceworks. Courtesy Mr. Sosa, a DJ/producer devoted to that field, "Flashback" is full of that indescribable magic: strange and superfluous samples, drums that tickle and tease, synths swells that make us swoon, and a melody that slowly melts into your mind. It's transportive, bringing back a foggy memory of some lost night at a club, ushering in a relapse of endorphins. It feels like walking on a cloud, floating through an ethereal soundscape. It may not be a killer club track, but it's a serene, satisfying one. Download "Flashback" free via Bandcamp here.FOLLOW MR. SOSA: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
