plusol shouldn't be a name you're unfamiliar with at this point. I've played his tracks in a handful of episodes and showcased his incredible catalog in the January edition FUXWITHIT's Focus Five feature here. Working in a unique sphere of sound, Calvin Jung combines crunchy chiptune samples with all sorts of organic instrumentation, primarily the piano, but often a larger, almost orchestral swath.
Last year, he captured the attention of Anthony Fantano with "Entity" and recently reignited a nostalgia for Zedd's "Clarity" that I didn't know I had. This past Friday he released "Hailstorm," what I've learned is the first taste of forthcoming album Lineage. Labelled as #hallucinations, this new production showcases a dizzying array of colours through the oppositional play of the twinkling piano and glitchy, raucous electro crashes. An excellent example of plusol's combination of power and poise, "Hailstorm" ought to instantly whet the appetite for Lineage. Stream it now below and catch it in the mix on an all new episode of Bump In The Hump live tonight from 7-9 PM EDT or afterwards on Mixcloud here.FOLLOW PLUSOL: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Sheck Wes - Mo Bamba (Jaydon Lewis & Afterfab Remix)
The Sheck Wes "Mo Bamba" phenomenon is an interesting one. Despite not gaining much traction after its initial release last year, it has absolutely blown up this year. So much so that A-Trak called it "the best song of the year," in response to a (since deleted) Zedd tweet. Their exchange garnered coverage by least a half dozen blogs/publications, with my favourite coming from Dee Lockett at Vulture (here), as she submits Zedd as noted music theorist and Sheck Wes as young scholar for his line "Oh! Fuck! Shit! Bitch!" Regardless of whether you think "Mo Bamba" is a mere viral, sophomoric frat banger or a brilliant slice of subversive, contemporary art, it certainly is one of the most widely recognizable and talked about tracks of the year. Personally it's not my cup of tea, but that said I've now gone two days in a row coming across remixes that I can get down to (Paul Mond's baile funk version here and the collaborative Jaydon Lewis and Afterfab flip below). All the raw, rank and wild energy of the original is still present in this mix, just jacked up - as if there were room to do that with the original. The toybox background and anthemic nature remains, but the new chopped, slapped and smashed drops will leave your head spinning the same way dancefloors explode when the original comes on. It's just a fresh enough take to keep you entertained, while still close enough to the original to allow fans to still fuck with it. Grab a free download of this fire remix via Supportify here and follow the artists below.FOLLOW SHECK WES: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Throwback Thursday: Lazy Rich
This past weekend, one of the most important producers in bringing me into the electronic music scene decided to call it quits. Lazy Rich announced Saturday evening that he would give up gigging after New Years Eve. This is crushing, as despite my fandom, I've never been able to take in a Lazy Rich set first hand, and while we can hope that he goes back on his word, he has not closed the door on future productions. He's also stated that he will stay on with his label Big Fish Recordings, and maintain his roles with both Label Engine and Create Music. All this being said I figured it was appropriate to share a small sampling of my favourite Lazy Rich productions and some of the remixes they inspired.
While the playlist below contains 15 tracks, it really is a small sampling of Lazy Rich's enormous catalog which (while incomplete also includes duplicates) contains over 500 tracks on Beatport and reaches back to 2007. His impact cannot be overstated, whether through his productions alone or his work with the aforementioned trio of behind the scenes roles. His work within the electro house scene is immeasurable; just a quick scroll through his feed shows countless artists reaching out and thanking him for his role in, either directly or indirectly, influencing them.
While electro is gritty and raw, his tracks always had a undeniable polish and funky dance-able feel. Just one listen to the first track below "Disco Rocking" illustrates that perfectly. Later his work with vocalists (be them originals or remixes) further showed his ability to pair his power with poignant emotion. More recently he left the comfortable confines of 128 BPM to explore new worlds, and seemingly no matter who or what he worked with, success was guaranteed.
When I first came into dance music, it was always about pairing power with a tune you could dance to and no one did this quite like Lazy Rich. Finally, I leave you to enjoy the three handfuls of my favourites below. Be sure to check out more of his illustrious library, and follow his socials at the bottom.FOLLOW LAZY RICH: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Throwback Thursday: Congorock - Ivory
It feels good to get back to basics, and continue my journey of musical growth, through my Throwback Thursday series. This week it gives me great pleasure to revisit one of my favourite tracks from one of the most inventive and influential producers I've ever heard, Congorock and his 'elephant bass' track "Ivory." It undoubtedly spurred a slew of tracks from the likes of Dimitri Vegas/Like Mike, Clockwork, Hard Rock Sofa, Showtek, Felix Cartal, Nom De Strip and Charlie Darker, among countless others. I'd go so far as to say Congorock's influence, for better or worse, is part of the reason we have such acts as Martin Garrix, DVBBS, and fellow Italians VINAI.
There's no questioning Congorock's groundbreaking production skills, first entering into mainstream consciousness with the unavoidably awesome, "Babylon," but it is my assertion, "Ivory" was the track that truly cemented his status as a producer's producer. Whether it's the wobbly, throbbing pulses of the bass synth, the perfectly tuned percussion, so finely placed in the incredibly deep atmosphere, or the obviously awesome pitch bent, elephant trumpeting; Congorock absolutely nails the hands in the air, ecstasy inspiring, inescapable big room sound.
The atmosphere of "Ivory" whisks you away to an African safari, with ominous tension abounding as you wait to see your first glimpse of wildlife. Suddenly, as though from a scene straight out of The Jungle Book, a herd of elephants trample through the nearby bushes and are right on top of you. Overwhelming in magnitude and unyielding in size, there is no escaping the mammoth power of Congorock's "Ivory."
While I find myself listening to less and less of this particular brand of big room electro, there's no questioning the impact it had on me and the love I still have for Congorock. Despite not hearing much from him lately (his most recent release came last April), his library of tracks, will no doubt stand the test of time. Be sure to enjoy the awesomeness of his original productions "Sirius," "Monolith," "Bless Di Nation," with Stereo Massive, "Minerals," with Nom De Strip and "Infinite Mana" with Clockwork. And don't forget his raucous remixes, Zedd's "Spectrum," Swedish House Mafia's "One," Clockwork's "Titan," and Zeds Dead's "Cowboy." Here's to hoping we get some new Congorock in there near future.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Keys N Krates - Love Again (ft. Ouici)
Tonight on Bump In The Hump, we get the final new track from Keys N Krates' EP Midnite Mass, giving a first play to their collaboration with fellow birthday partier, Ouici, "Love Again."
Released this past Friday, Keys N Krates' "thesis" Midnite Mass is a landmark release complete with heavy, party ready tracks (U Already Know & Save Me) as well as more subtle, thought provoking tracks (Nothing But Space & I Know U), but this track "Love Again," fits somewhere in between with it's funky and bleepy rolling rhythms. It harkens back to early Keys N Krates compositions like their Madeon remix "Icarus" or Zedd remix "Follow You Down" or their early EPs Lucid Dreams & Blackout. There's no doubting the growth we've witnessed in the Keys N Krates sound has been profound and tremendously positive, but it's nice to hear them embracing their roots. Be sure to get your copy of Midnite Mass, purchase your tickets for their tour (March 25 in Toronto) and tune into Bump In The Hump tonight, 6-7.SUPPORT (KEYS N KRATES): FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
