Enlightened Listening for July 12

This is, without a doubt, the largest ever edition of Enlightened Listening, and as a result I simply cannot address each of the 25 releases individually nor will I list them below. That said I do believe this is perhaps the best playlist in terms of fluid listening, so dive into the 42 track, two hour and 42 minute new music extravaganza below. It opens with some bright summery tunes that should certainly get your toes tapping. The fourth track in changes the mood a bit, especially as it comes from Cassius. Directly after that, Chris Lorenzo utilizes the classic Masters At Work sample, once again proving its timeless quality in his dope deep delivery. A few tracks later we see Cloverdale drop off an exceptional EP on Dr. Fresch's young imprint. Staying with newly founded labels, the legendary Tommy Trash graces Botnek's World Famous Headquarters with the ridiculous "Ripper."

The mood of the playlist shifts after that, turning towards extended engrossing numbers from Clarian and Tinlicker, the former giving us a fantastic cinematic EP. Then, the surprise of this Enlightened Listening, Devo (yes, the "Whip It" group) deliver a supremely cool cut that doesn't seem at all out of place in this playlist. Staying cinematic, Canblaster comes through with a literal soundtrack piece made for a video here. Keys N Krates follow that with an 11 track beat tape ahead the second single from Wave Racer's forthcoming album. Things then turn DnB with a triple shot from our UK friends. The energy is obviously up following that as SYN continues to kill it, delivering a diabolic banger in "New Rave." Two more Canadian kids then follow that in Kraysh and ZABO, the former completing his Void EP. In a fire finale of sorts, the power pairing of Eprom and G Jones send us spiraling into infinity.

Enlightened Listening for October 26

What's the allowance on special Fridays for releases? Seems like we've hit our quota, but boy is this one wicked. It marks the returns of Robyn, Handbraekes and Mat Zo to Anjunabeats. On top of that there's incredible albums from Savant, Adriatique and G Jones, and superb singles from Erol Alkan, SG Lewis, Krafty Kuts/Dynamite MC and Plump DJs. Last week's episode of Bump In The Hump looked ahead to Hunter Siegel's CODA debut with the 3rd anniversary of No Neon. One of the tracks he dropped in his epic open to close set was our very own knodis and "Broken Circuit." Somehow I managed to forget to play it back in the summer, but that's remedied tonight as I unleash its alien/android appeal. We've got our usual mixture of everything from disco to deep and bass house, trap, dubstep and even some nightcore. G Jones - Pull Up

There's no other way to describe G Jones' latest track "Pull Up," as anything other than bass. With riddim, dubstep and trap influences throughout, "Pull Up" is a confluence of the all the best, bass-focused genres has to offer. It's menacing, rattling the very core of the listener, with sound design reminiscent of the best bass producers known to this world. Somehow he's channeled Flux Pavilion, Excision, Bassnectar, Rusko and RL Grime, and combined them all, in a cohesive and killer fashion.
I cannot help but envision an interstellar space battle, as ships careen through explosions, with lasers and rockets blasting all around. In fact I think it should be the soundtrack for the latest installment of Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The real magic and guiding force behind "Pull Up" is the percussion; resisting it is futile as G Jones grabs listeners by the scruff of the neck, dunking our heads in toilet bowls, brazenly bullying us with his bombastic bass throbs. From its ravey beginnings through its domineering and derelict devolution of dance sentimentalities, G Jones succeeds in delivering his vision for bass tracks of the future. "Pull Up" is the lead single from his forthcoming EP, Visions, set to be released "early 2017," for which he is also touring North America from December 30th through April 22nd.
