King Peanuts - Intuition

London royalty King Peanuts may have just won the year with today's album release, Intuition. Seemingly out of nowhere he dropped 10 tracks, all of them brand new, and equally effective. His mix of foreboding future club, trap, garage and DnB through this progressive album, pays homage to its title, showing incredible musical intuition. Believe me, at time of writing this I'm not through the 7th track, but I dropped everything to write about this after the first few tracks and it keeps getting better!

The opening track "My Way" instantly sets the table with the inky black, alley way of a club atmosphere that Intuition oozes. "Nevermind" switches things up, as is a theme in the 10 track movement, but nevertheless takes place in the same sonic narrative. This second track is chaotic but somehow hypnotic and satisfying to follow. "Something Else" again trips up the flow, so it's aptly named that way, and equally so in the sensual switch-up mid-way.

Then there's the title track, "Intuition" is peak King Peanuts percussion and atmosphere through sublime swells and angelic vocal samples. A turn almost downtrodden follows with "Just Us," a weary, defeated darkness. Believe it or not it gets darker as "On You" kicks off with piano chords of doom, but once again this chaos is invigorating, burrowing into your brain-stem with its bass drums and bewitching vocals.

"Now" once again wanders, oozing with King Peanuts' brilliance. Smooth and sensationally designed in scope, the way this one rolls along so supremely strong and confident. That tenacity is then displayed in "Break The Ice," a flamingo of a production. The super cool levels and their interaction, at such high a clip, usher in pure unadulterated ecstasy. Which brings us to "Savant" another properly named production, where the percussion is again omnipotent, played to perfection. But it's all about the vocal samples, which remind me of Dolores O'Riordan.

Finally, Intuition is wrapped up with a hurried church hymn centered around a  hell organ and chorus. "To Late" may be the least appealing track of the album, but as bookend I see it as that, more of a narrative piece than a banger of a production. It's undeniably through the lens of King Peanuts, so make of it what you will. But boy, there's no denying the quality of this 10 tracker. I'm excited to be listening to many of these tracks for a while, and maybe we'll see Intuition in my list of favourite albums of the year. So far it's only available on Bandcamp, so get it there or check his Soundcloud post below for updates.FOLLOW KING PEANUTS: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER
