Best Tracks Of 2018: Honorable Mentions

It's getting to be that time of year. Seems most publications have either already unveiled their year end lists, or are at least in the process of doing so. I'll push back a bit, in that there's still good music coming out and certainly some of it deserves spots in these year end reflections. That said, I still aim to have my Top 100 Tracks of 2018 list out in 2018, along with some kind of album showcase. But since the Top 100 is still in flux (at least in terms of placement), I've found that I've got a nice 18 leftovers which deserve at least the title of Honorable Mentions. So without further ado, here they are, sorted in alphabetical order by original artist, with brief descriptions after the Soundcloud playlist/jump.

Enlightened Listening for September 28

Another busy Friday for new music. This week's Enlightened Listening includes 3 albums, ranging from RYAN Playground's debut, to The Knocks' second, and CHIC's ninth, It's About Time. Then there's the milestone that is Westwood Recordings 100th Release, a massive 25 track compilation. I also highlight singles from Pusher, thook and legends The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy. Freshly brewed by Fool's Gold comes a bright and bubbly single from Sammy Bananas' forthcoming debut album Someday. "Cherry Soda" features the always uplifting authority of Kaleena Zanders and blurs the line between disco, house and pop. The synth shows off a tart touch, contrasted by the sweet piano pulses and Kaleena's killer crooning. But for me, the best bit of "Cherry Soda" comes from the backing of the bass and drums that propel the groove, sending your arms upward, fizzing like its namesake.
