Among the coolest creations I've heard all year, Machinedrum has got my March off to an excellent start with his remix of GoGo Penguin's "Atomised." Now, I'm not sure which 'discovery' I'm more excited about, this remix or the Manchester-based trio. The remix is all kinds of awesome with its radiant energy, beautiful breaks and impressive piano, but it's not as though these are new to "Atomised." In fact, Machinedrum more or less leverages the quality of the original in his enthralling remix.
A listen back to the original reveals the awe-inspiring genius of GoGo Penguin's performers: pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Rob Turner. Both the eponymous album version and the Live From Studio 2 version are stunning displays of musicianship, playing together impeccably well while showcasing the life inherent in their productions. And it is that last point that makes the Machinedrum remix such an exhilarating and admirable offering. The life of "Atomised" remains intact in this remix; in fact, Machinedrum gives it even more life as though upgrading your character's gear in a sci-fi video game. Even further, you could see it as an expansion pack, taking the track to new, more technologically advanced worlds with more flashy and electrifying animations. And this lush Machinedrum level is one I'll certainly be replaying over and over again.
Taking advantage of the already scintillating original, Machinedrum's remix of "Atomised" is sure to inject some much-needed energy on this Monday. Get it via Soundcloud below or elsewhere here.
