Florentine - WIND ME UP

First appearing on Soundcloud in April of 2016 (at least as far as what's still online), a mysterious producer by the name of Florentine began to gain traction with a tropical future bass remix of Iggy Azalea's "Work." They followed that with 10 more of the same bright bouncy and poppy, percussion driven tracks, each averaging over 10k plays, before ultimately going silent in September of 2018. However it seems like Florentine is back in business as they've now released three new productions starting with Valentine's Day's "BIG." My favourite of this new trio and the focus of this post, "WIND ME UP" delivers an instant kick of warm nostalgia, reminding me of the summer I worked a landscaping job listening to Soundcloud gems like this all day, every day. Clean and crisp it is the percussion that really drives this track but the subtle synths, their movement and the overall atmosphere cannot be understated. Sure seeing a drum line play "WIND ME UP" would be incredibly cool, but it wouldn't have quite the same energizing electricity without the warm, rising undertones. Rihanna - Needed Me (Murlo Remix)

In honour of his remix of Rihanna's "Work" surpassing the million play milestone on soundcloud, British DJ and producer, Murlo just dropped another Rihanna rework, this time taking on "Needed Me." Fluttering and flighty, the tropical steel pans add a refreshing island vibe reminiscent of Rihanna's homeland. Subtle and sneaky, this remix washes over your ears like waves lapping on an island paradise. Murlo's treatment of her vocals is both delicate and incredibly alluring, making it easy to get lost in this potent production. The beauty of this version is the seemingly contradictory fact of its definite distinct nature, setting it apart from the original, yet somehow familiar feel, not bastardizing the beauty of the original. I fully expect Murlo's version of "Needed Me" to get the same amount of recognition his "Work" remix received.

Rihanna ft. Drake - Work (Hi Tom Remix)

Just over a month since fellow Rytmeklubben member, DJ Karaoke, dropped two remixes of Rihanna's mumbling masterpiece "Work," Hi Tom adds a second version of track, this time featuring some steel-pans. Find his first version here and Karaoke's versions here, for instant free download. More club friendly and summer ready, Hi Tom's new version, features tuned up vocals and the usual Hi Tom/Rytmeklubben influences and instrumentation. But of course the main feature and most appealing, at least in my book (as I wait for warm weather), is the tropical feel of the steel-pans. I can't be positive but it seems like a strange coincidence that I was directed to this video of Keishaun Julien performing "Work" on the steel-pans, last Monday. Whether Hi Tom sampled this video, was influenced by it or it's mere coincidence, the resulting new version is yet another in a slew of great remixes of "Work" from both the Rytmeklubben crew and the world of producers at large.
