Enlightened Listening for November 1

After one of the largest Enlightened Listening playlists last week, we're significantly shorter this week. We focus on a handful of singles, alongside a couple EPs and remixes. Things start poppy with exceptional singles from Kiesza and Dua Lipa who both remind us of their undeniable leading lady status. Kiesza's track shines, while Dua's bristles with funky bass leading us nicely into the delightfully easy dancing TOPS track "Seven Minutes." Diving disco, George Sandler and Justin Jay spin sublime with "Know How," before Fabrikate bring out the brass with the sensational "Love Was Real."

Pete Tong and HER-O find themselves in this list for the third week in a row as "Go Crazy" gets a groovy extension. Staying with remixes, the legendary Marshall Jefferson gives a more human heart to club killer "Turn Me On." Tuff London follows that with another unstoppable house cut that is sure to keep the floor moving. After that we get our first EP of the playlist, a trio of top notch remixes of Lastlings' "Last Breath," with a standout from Adult Art Club who we heard in Lane 8's Halloween mix.

Closing the playlist out is a foursome of house cuts from three of my favourite names. First, Billy Kenny once again captures my attention with incredible sound design and an unwavering rolling groove. Noizu follows that with another inventive cut, showing further range and equally incredible sound design. Finally, Stund delivers two killer cuts. Both roll brilliantly but the real quality comes in the depth and interplay of their drops. Stream the playlist below and find individual links at the bottom. Enjoy!

Enlightened Listening for June 9

This week's Enlightened Listening features a foursome of dance ready EPs, two dope disco singles and a trio of turnt up bass house numbers. We start with the wandering spirit of Sébastien Léger in his Skadi EP which features two equally epic magic and meandering singles along with a remix from Tim Green that fits the mood perfectly. Next up KiNK works with wife Rachel Row for the sensational "To Love You," which truly illustrates Piano Power, whereas the following two tracks are slightly more power than piano, but remain equally alluring. After that come four takes on the incredible "In My Arms," mostly of the more downtempo, chill variety save for Qubiko's club friendly force.

Turning to singles now, Dimitri From Paris and Cotonete reunite to remix the Dimitri produced Izo FitzRoy track "I Want Magic." Electric and magical, it features the fun and playfulness that this pairing always offers. Staying with heavenly horns and divine disco, Daphni has put his touch on Paradise's 1981 track "Sizzling Hot" which leads an EP due out July 19th. Moving laterally, we get a trio of remixes of The Magician's "Ready To Love," including a glitzy disco take from Mercer.

Finally we get to the fire finale of this playlist with Noizu and Eli Brown kicking things off with thumping groove number in "Inside My Head." Shift K3Y follows that up with another fantastically fiery flow which merges Night Bass and UKF in "Nightline." Closing out this collection is another unreal collaboration featuring DJ Zinc and Chris Lorenzo. The two combine for a jaw-dropping joint whose power is sure to send any dance-floor into fits. Dombresky - Soul Sacrifice

Dombresky sure knows how to get people grooving, whether it be with his smart selections behind the DJ booth or when he's in studio making his own beats. Following the space-bound, synth led "Futurmastic" and acid rolling tech-house collab with Noizu "Rave Alarm," Dombresky delivers yet another spin on house, this time letting organic instruments take charge in "Soul Sacrifice." While the saxophone is the fulcrum of this track, the simple strength of the guitar and the dance-ready drums make it a spirited sensation. It takes very little imagination to see that this will certainly have people flying across the dance-floor, shuffling along to the sax lead. While it is certainly repetitive, it is an integral part of the lifeblood of the production, playing perfectly with the walking bass-line, giving a genius swing to the nearly four minute groover. Enlightened Listening for January 18

Something, something, new year, new music. Yeah yeah, these intros can be formulaic and really, do you even bother to read them? It's about the music, which you'll find below. This week's Enlightened Listening has a couple killer remixes, the first release from Dr. Fresch's new label, and fire EPs from both Aylen and Masayoshi Iimori. Read brief descriptions below and enjoy your weekend. Cheers!

Tycho - Epoch (Luttrell Remix)
Your new alarm/wake up call. You can see the sun bursting over the horizon and feel its warmth. The already beautiful original gets a top notch touch up from one of techno's melodic masters.

Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus - Nothing Breaks Like A Heart (Martin Solveig Remix)
The remixes just keep coming, only further showing the strength of the original. Solveig pairs his production with Cyrus' voice brilliantly, letting each lead, and the whole thing grow organically.

Bob Sinclar - Electrico Romantico (ft. Robbie Williams)
The longevity of Sinclar is stunning, and so is this. Poppy, uplifting and funky. I think this is my favourite track on this list.

Mishap - Motions
The first in a long run of bangers in this list. A really strong example of the hybrid nature of bass driven tracks we're seeing these days. Dubstep, trap and do I hear some Pink Floyd "On The Run"?

Noizu - Dance
Rolling raucousness, acidic punches and dark dirty vibes. Noizu remains one to watch; whether it be on CONFESSION, OWSLA, or BlackBook like this, he always brings bangers.

Aylen - Routines
Always on top of the sound design game, Aylen seems to have made XXL the home for his weird, and wickedly effective house tracks. Both tracks are weapons, but in this case I'm more for the a-side.

London Elektricity - Funkopolis
I still remember the first time I heard London Elektricity, and while I can't say any of his productions have captured my attention the way "All Hell Is Breaking Loose" did a decade ago, this comes close. These two share that same kind of cool, almost soundtrack style delivery. Funky and full of energy.

Various Artists - The Remedy Volume 1
You cannot go wrong with 1) anything Dr. Fresch touches or 2) a compilation that includes the likes of BIJOU, Tony Romera, Gerry Gonza and JAXX DA FISHWORKS. If g- and bass-house are your things, best keep your eyes and ears locked on The Prescriptions Records.

Masayoshi Iimori - Euphoria
While Aylen and Iimori work in different genres, I cannot help but see similarities in both the quality and wildness of their productions. Both are liable to batter your brains with any given release, and certainly that holds true with this three track tumult. It'll surely leave your head spinning and your body moving. If you're still on the fence, let me say that "FMW" gives me a Boys Noize vibe and what could be wrong with that?
