At the end of last month Spanish producer
Hurlee shared a three track EP entitled
La Touche on
Suol Records. As its name suggests, the EP has a funky French touch throughout as the Spaniard puts his spin on GQ and Billy Ocean. The latter appears with Kanye through sampled interviews as Ocean's "Stay The Night" lays the brass-punctuated bed of "
Favorite Jazz." It is indeed the sublime sample of Ocean that drives the track, but
Hurlee's work around is not without merit. He lets it lead while still coaxing it towards a more, cool jazzy feel that still thumps through its house beats. It's this smartly situated position that allows it to be easily consumed as beautiful background beats or more upfront in an all-night disco set. Stream "
