Back in May I highlighted a B2B mix from Folamour and Sampling As An Art (S3A) at Radio Meuh Circus Festival (here). Now the latter has a four track EP due out this month on vinyl and December 14th digitally. Sydmalaïde on Swedish imprint Local Talk isn't exactly a hard and fast disco EP, but rather a brilliant blend of house as disco's revenge.
The first track "Premiere Rexidence" is a bouncy blissful joint, of course reliant on samples both vocal and instrumental. The chords craft a cool atmosphere, while the percussion and horns give a little shake to your step, funking up the dance-floor. Before flipping the wax, S3A turns things over to the piano for classic rolling house vibes in "End Track For A DJ." Oozing with finishing feels, the rising nature of so many of the elements in this track, particularly the angelic background vocals and strings, makes it feel like you're floating off into the ether.
Opposing the pie in the sky a-sides, the reverse of this record immediately offers up a darker atmosphere, despite the foursome's fully free and easy energy. "Searching Force" is the funkiest of the bunch, allowing a genius groove to grow out of an awesome, out-of-this-world force. It feels like a scene from a 007 film in which Bond seduces some femme fatale in an interstellar casino, before blasting off in his Jaguar spaceship to take on the bad guy. Chic, classy and oh so smooth, it is my favourite of the bunch. That said, the closing track "Deep Mood Vol 4" is no slouch. Living through its massive low-end and sensuous vocal samples, it is a lush sound bed as easily enjoyable as lying under the covers, hiding from the cold, watching your favourite romcom. S3A has found the perfect blend of disco and house in Sydmalaïde, stream below or make it yours on Bandcamp here and iTunes here.
