Piano&Specs - Sweet Dark Silence
Mashups can be maddening, especially if they feel chopped up and disjointed, but boy can they be brilliant if the pieces fit together. The latter is true with Hasting's duo Piano&Specs's first release in more than six months. "Sweet Dark Silence," is a combination of 4 tracks, the first being Vincent Price's voice-over from "Thriller," which sets the scene for the haunting uptempo track. The remaining three elements then take over as Piano&Specs use classic 1993 jungle track "Valley Of The Shadows" as the main musical bed. The Origin Unknown (Andy C/Ant Miles) track definitely deserves this renewed spotlight as it still shines strong with its sweltering heat. And this is really where Piano&Specs have managed to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. The additional chords from Liquid's "Sweet Harmony" bring an incredible boost, shooting the song further skywards. But it wouldn't be a song without Sarah McLachlan's vocals from Delirium's "Silence." This mashup, despite it's nebulous name, is truly a match made in heaven; a radiant, reach for the sky sensation.
