Enlightened Listening for May 7

It's the first Friday of the month, and that means we're once again moving our weekly new music playlist, Enlightened Listening, to Bandcamp. As with last month's Bandcamp Friday, I've put the playlist on BNDCMPR here to streamline your listening experience. Again, I've opted to keep the releases in alphabetical order by artist name as this incredibly diverse compilation is nearly impossible to mix smoothly.

The nine-release, sixty-nine track (at the moment) compilation opens with a pre-order of A. G. Cook's massive LP. While there are forthcoming remixes from Boys Noize, GRRL and Baauer, it already features the likes of umru, Kai Whiston and DJ Warlord. Following that is the live recording of Austra's solo acoustic performance of HiRUNDiN. Rounding out the first three releases is Boys Noize's Defected follow-up to "Mvinline."

The middle third of this week's Enlightened Listening features a trio of raucous releases, starting with six slappers from Brodinski & Modulaw. Even wilder, Chippy Nonstop and dj genderfluid's self-titled LP gets cheeky with all kinds of rave energy. Headed further hardcore and break-driven, India Jordan's Watch Out! is simply wicked.

Finally, we head into the final three releases with the IDM journey through sound and consciousness that is Little Snake's lengthy titled LP, A Fragmented Love Story, Written By The Infinite Helix Architect. Another release that's likely to leave you doing double-takes is LUXXURY's Edits Vol. 7, which features a couple handfuls of fabulous disco, synthpop edits of classics from The Rolling Stones, Black Box, Alexander Robotnik and more. Finally, our lone freebie, a treat for Diablo II fans in Priori's DnB twist on the "Tristram Theme."

Find each release linked individually below, note ^ for pre-order and * for free download, and stream the full playlist via BNDCMPR here.

Enlightened Listening for April 2

It's the first Friday of the month, and while it's a holiday, it's still Bandcamp Friday. Once again, we're hosting our weekly new music playlist Enlightened Listening on said platform. However, there is a bit of a change this month. One of my complaints with Bandcamp is the lack of ability to build playlists. Obviously, I wasn't the only one who noticed this glaring omission as Lon Beshiri built BNDCMPR, a new playlist platform for Bandcamp. While it's still a bit cumbersome, I was able to build a playlist for this week's Enlightened Listening. Find it here. Also cataloged alphabetically, find each individual release linked below. There's an incredible new album from Iglooghost, a flurry of fabulous edits from LUXXURY, an exhilarating freebie from Jelani and more! Dig in below and enjoy!

Enlightened Listening for June 5

Bandcamp continues to flex on its counterparts by once again waiving its revenue share today. So with that in mind I'm once again turning my weekly new release series Enlightened Listening to Bandcamp.

As with previous editions, I've simply listed the releases below as there is no playlist system for a single embed (a la Spotify). Of the 20 releases cataloged below, a large number are pay what you want and even more are donating the collected proceeds to charity. In the list you'll find plenty of DnB and jungle type tracks, a bunch of edit packs, a couple compilations and even a mix.

Of course I'm recommending each and every of these releases, but I'm particularly fond of the edit packs from dope, Nike Bike & The Patchouli Brothers, the Skream & Tom Demac EP, Ryan Hemsworth's 100% unreleased mix, and the Swing Ting Remixes & Rarities compilation.

Finally, I'll close by recommending you check out the music being shared on Twitter today as this is but a mere drop in the ocean of excellent offerings out there. Have a great weekend and stay safe!

LUXXURY - I Still Love You

Somehow I've managed to make it into 2020 with almost no knowledge of LUXXURY. Blake Robin, previously Baron Von Luxxury, has been crafting slow burning disco edits and originals for the better part of the past two decades. Friday, LUXXURY released the fifth volume of his vaunted XX EDITS series, in which he reworks classics through their respective multi-track stems. In this 10 track edition entitled Never Gonna Dance Again?, LUXXURY lends his raw, funky and fulsome style to the likes of Tame Impala, Cream, Sade, George Michael and more. Like so much of his edit catalog, there's a lot to like, especially if you already appreciate the original. And that's the case for me with the track below, "I Still Love You."

A take on The Human League's 1981 offering "Don't You Want Me," this nearly seven minute long extended edit leans into the sublime synth play of the original, while leveraging both a new driving drum beat and a bolstered version of the brilliant bottom end. Just as the original has echoed in the popular consciousness for decades, the continued catchiness and repacked resplendence of this edit will have you muttering "I Still Love You" for days. Enjoy below and be sure to dig into LUXXURY's catalog for more of his brilliant brand of nu-disco, either through his Soundcloud or XX EDITS' Bandcamp here.
