Chris Davids, one-half of Maribou State, is set to drop his debut solo album Tomorrow's People later this month. Last week, the project's third single, "London. Paris. Berlin." showcased Shire T's more restrained, organic and melodic side, especially following the earlier, more electronically charged, acid-tinged offerings, "Blue Kiss" and "Full Attention."
All but abandoning the darker, more aggressive and driving sounds at the heart of this project, Shire T instead turns inward here for a soulful slice, nailing the nostalgic theme with tender play on his childhood piano. That said, this is no mere downtempo, ambient tearjerker. The electronic essence remains as the synths guide the gorgeous organic instrumentation. And what a crisp, cool and captivating ride "London. Paris. Berlin." is. The growth, both in groove and instrumentation, is simply sublime, especially as the vocals, piano and synths all swell together.
