Drum and Bass Playlist (April 4/16)
As I said in the previous post (Maduk - Got Me Thinking) I've been really into drum and bass lately. So I thought I'd put together a playlist of some of the drum and bass tracks I've been listening to lately:
This one isn't on soundcloud but without a doubt deserves to be on this list:
Maduk - Got Me Thinking (feat. Veela)
I've really been feeling Drum and Bass over the last few weeks and the latest one from Amsterdam artist, Maduk, "Got Me Thinking," has me riding the liquid flow of his collaboration with Veela.
Part of the beauty of Drum and Bass is the inescapable power and progression within it, that empowers listeners and drives them to dance. While most drum and bass is relatively formulaic, in its focus on driving drums, it is the inject of playfulness and tweaks that make good drum and bass so appealing. Veela's vocals strike a philosophical chord that walks the fine line between naval gazing and brain-dead, pure auditory enjoyment. Maduk delivers a delicious combination of deep and dark driving synths that support Veela's propelling vocals. Its got a groove that Never Give Up, perfect for his forthcoming album of the same name. Stay tuned for the album to drop April 29.

SBCR & Punks - Scream (feat. Signal:noize)
The Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo (SBCR), aka Bloody Beetroots, partnership with Signal:noize "Scream" is part of a five track EP of outright bangers, in his third installment of SBCR Presents: SBCR & Punks, hopefully the soundcloud link works (that's a story for another day).
I reckon this is my favourite of the bunch of SBCR presents (Friends and Adversaries included), partly because of it's poignant illustrative lyrics; enjoying this malicious and depraved darkness requires a fearless ear. "Scream" is able to successfully embody both a soothing, yet creepy lullaby of a music box and an impressively intimidating drop, punctuated by a blood curdling shriek. It conquers each section, playing each to perfection. moving at a pace that is anything but boring, yet enough to thoroughly enjoy. If there were any track I'd use to introduce people to SBCR, and Bloody Beetroots for that matter, it's be this one. After that I'd recommend "Uberal," from this same collection.
