Perth-based producer, Pecoe stopped my scrolling this morning as I stumbled upon his funky, Latin-inspired take on the title track from LL Cool J's 1990 album Mama Said Knock You Out. While he's dropped the 'knock' from the title, there's no denying "Mama Said Latin You Out" knocks with the best of them. Sporting a slick new bed led by some glorious guitar-work, Pecoe's pushed LL Cool J into new territory, tightening the screws on the already potent, pugilistic rap. This new funky force works incredibly well with the already sample-heavy original, especially as Pecoe keeps the drums (breaks and otherwise) rolling with a newfound resplendence. This new captivating colour and invigorating energy keeps the hype of the original alive and well and would certainly work wonders as a walk-up track.
