Daft Punk - Together / Music Sounds Better With You / One More Time / Aerodynamic (FIBRE Mashup)

This weekend Alexandru Galetus, aka FIBRE, turned the clock back 14 years by releasing his take on the encore from Daft Punk's all-time classic album Alive 2007. Featuring two Thomas Bangalter tracks, "Together" and "Music Sounds Better With You," alongside "One More Time" and "Aerodynamic," this seamlessly blended eight-minute affair is both fresh and steeped in nostalgia. While the latter is obvious, the former freshness finds itself in the inclusion of "Aerodynamic" instead of the official, bonus edition's "Human After All." FIBRE forgoes the Frankenstein's monster-esque reanimation of "Human After All," instead opting to lead with "Together," which in my estimation is equally as effective in its come-together-one-last-time encore appeal. And from there, the Washington DC-based producer blasts off into French house infinity as the timeless appeal of "Music Sounds Better With You" and "One More Time" work their magic. Finally, the resplendent rushes of "Aerodynamic" deliver new notes, making this edit incredibly effective as a finale thanks to its feverish, race-against-the-clock intensity. A new twist on a classic combination, find FIBRE's fabulous free mashup below and follow his socials at the bottom.

Public Enemy - Rebel Without A Pause (Rhythm Scholar Maximum Rage Remix)

Believe it or not Soundcloud's The Upload feature has once again outdone itself, delivering a couple really cool tracks (amidst a mountain of mixes I couldn't possible begin to summit). Appearing right near the bottom was a lengthy title emanating from an account called Hip-Hop Remixes. Accounts like this instantly sound warning bells as they all so often end up being repost networks and/or spam profiles. However the track's title was enough to get me to press play, and within seconds I was sold.
Largely a mashup of Public Enemy and Rage Against The Machine, "Rebel Without A Pause" is actually a megamix of sorts combining the likes of James Brown, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock and more. Now of course this is a breathtakingly cool combination and legitimate banger, but the really cool find behind this whole thing is the Rhythm Scholar, who seemingly gives all of his countless mashups/remixes away for free. He's got a killer catalog of creations of this ilk, re-imagining classics like Warren G and Nate Dogg's "Regulate," Chic's "Good Times," Tears For Fears "Head Over Heels," and even more recent stuff like "Uptown Funk." While not all of these are going to be for everybody, there's at least a handful of really fun stuff to get your hands on, and free at that. I've linked all the Rhythm Scholar's socials and website below, so check them out and enjoy your digging!

Piano&Specs - Sweet Dark Silence

Mashups can be maddening, especially if they feel chopped up and disjointed, but boy can they be brilliant if the pieces fit together. The latter is true with Hasting's duo Piano&Specs's first release in more than six months. "Sweet Dark Silence," is a combination of 4 tracks, the first being Vincent Price's voice-over from "Thriller," which sets the scene for the haunting uptempo track. The remaining three elements then take over as Piano&Specs use classic 1993 jungle track "Valley Of The Shadows" as the main musical bed. The Origin Unknown (Andy C/Ant Miles) track definitely deserves this renewed spotlight as it still shines strong with its sweltering heat. And this is really where Piano&Specs have managed to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. The additional chords from Liquid's "Sweet Harmony" bring an incredible boost, shooting the song further skywards. But it wouldn't be a song without Sarah McLachlan's vocals from Delirium's "Silence." This mashup, despite it's nebulous name, is truly a match made in heaven; a radiant, reach for the sky sensation. Like the majority of their edits/mashups "Sweet Dark Silence" is available absolutely free.FOLLOW PIANO&SPECS: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Dion Timmer - The Ting Go Berzerk

Dubstep mastermind Dion Timmer just jumped on the Big Shaq bandwagon taking on some of Michael Dapaah's Fire In The Booth skit. After hearing several different versions, I might go so far as to say that the "Man's Not Hot" flow fits best with with this maniacal dubstep delivery. Of course Big Shaq's vocals pop, but the way Dion's repackaged it with his track "Berzerk" resembles a mind-blowing Mortal Kombat bout, as the two heavyweights drop a double knockout. While you could say this is nothing more than meme music, it's actually really well done. What sealed it for me is how Dion built around the second verse with the fill leading into it, while the second drop and the Big Shaq vocal effects trade punches better than any boxing match I've ever seen. It's got everything that made the original so funny and engaging, while adding additional fire and enabling it to be played in a dubstep set. The only thing that's missing is a download, so for now you'll just have to survive off the Soundcloud stream below.FOLLOW DION TIMMER: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

San Holo vs Kanye West - Lights (Nitti Gritti Remix)

There's remixes, DJ tools, edits and mashups, and then there's what Miami's Nitti Gritti has done here. "Lights" combines the epic brass arc of Kanye's "All Of The Lights" as covered by Alexander Lewis and Brasstracks, while managing to maintain the indie electronic sparkle of San Holo's "Light." To have the horns rise in revelry from out of the ethereal chorus of "I just wanna see the light" is one thing, but to have Rihanna join in is sheer magic. Even when the two tracks are most oppositional (1:17ish), their mixture actually seems strong. Especially towards the end of the track, Nitti Gritti's mixing mastery shines through. He's able to flip back and forth between the two ingredients, whipping together an entirely new and appealing original. Brighten up your day with "Lights," available free via Hive, here. Flume - Heater x Insane (Den Solo Live Remake)

German producer Den Solo, has made Flume fans worldwide happy, releasing his live remake of viral mashup of two Flume tracks "Heater" and "Insane." There are at least two video clips of Flume playing out his version. One from a show in Queens, New York (here) and another, much longer clip, from Red Rocks (here). The live Flume mashup even spurred several reddit threads, all of which I imagine are rejoicing after Den Solo dropped a version that you can download for yourself. Although the soundcloud version has been pitched down to avoid copyright detection, the download is available in the original key. Stream it to your pleasure below, and grab the download via the Artist Union, here. FOLLOW DEN SOLO: FACEBOOK SOUNDCLOUD TWITTER

Forthcoming Mashup (AC Slater & GotSome vs Out Of Cookies)

Monday I wrote about Out Of Cookies track "Who's Them Boyz" and how it reminded me of AC Slater & GotSome's "Move It Back." So I decided to see how easily I could mash up the two tracks, and surprising it came rather easily. However I'm now on my new computer (finally!) and haven't finished moving stuff over, so it remains incomplete. But I thought I'd share a preview of what's to come.

Return Of Mashup In The Middle

It's been more than a few weeks since we've had our last Mashup In The Middle on Bump In The Hump, but this week we get its triumphant return courtesy the man in blue (above), Dano Bordie, the mastermind behind a number of mashups on Bump In The Hump as well as the Classic Canuck Crusher (10 tracks in 10 minutes) on Electronic Impressions. This week's mashup is a combination of three tracks: Milo & Otis' "Pigeons VIP," Rain Man & Omar LinX's "Broke Bitch" and A-Trak & Milo & Otis' "Out The Speakers." As per usual it is available for free download, which you can find below. You'll also be able to hear it alongside the best new Canadian electronic music tonight, including the aforementioned Frustra premiere, only on Bump In The Hump, Radio Humber from 11-12 EST, here.

Bump In The Hump Sneak Peek: Mura Masa x T-Pain - Lovesick Fuck, Can't Believe It

This week on Bump In The Hump, I'm incredibly excited to bring to air a mashup that I've been listening to nonstop for more than a week. First heard in Benzi's Girl Trapz Volume 9, BryceM88 combined Mura Masa's "Lovesick Fuck" and T-Pain's "Can't Believe It." Unfortunately, it is one of 13 original, edit, VIP, remixes that was made specifically for Girl Trapz and was not posted anywhere online, meaning you had to skip to the specific part to hear it. Not being satisfied with that I decided to put together an extended version, that included both drops. I've now uploaded it to my soundcloud, for free download, but you'll also find it as this week's Mashup In The Middle, on Bump In The Hump, Radio Humber. Tune in live tonight from 6-7 EST (stream link here), to hear it with more of the best Canadian electronic music.

WTF Friday: An Hour Down The Soundcloud Wormhole

It probably doesn't come as much of a surprise that I troll soundcloud on the regular. And much like Alice In Wonderland is relatively easy to fall through some sort of wormhole to that transports you to an alien world. This just happened to me as I was looking at goofy mashups, particularly those combining rap and kawaii, and came across this incomprehensibly insane account, dicksoak.

This was the second track I came across, probably should have stopped at the first one but it was so incredibly ridiculous that I just had to give this guy another chance to see if there was any hidden gold. I was immediately greeted with this tuned up Eminem monstrosity, the vocal stabs are hilariously tuned and hits an absolutely awesome peak with the chipmunk tuned background vocals at 33 seconds in. The 8-bit video game score brings the intensity and makes it feel as though you're being chased my some hyperactive Marshall Mathers.
